  1. I heard the "Ghost" solo in La Villa today, for the very first time. It's been years since I've been here but I figured I'd share it with you guys as you'd probably appreciate it most. I know this has been a topic of conversation here many times but I wasn't able to find if anyone has posted a place to hear it. If this is old news and everyone has heard it, or knows of a better way to hear it, or version, sorry. Like I said, it's been a while. In an ancient interview, Alex mentions that if you listen carefully to La Villa, you can hear the original solo from the recording session "ghosted" through the recording, a solo that was replaced by the one you hear on Hemispheres. I've heard the song a million times and never heard the ghost solo and figured it was one of those things that you can only hear if you know exactly what to listen for and when. A secret I would never learn. Well in typical RUSH fashion, when you least expect something, or thought you'd heard it all, they surprise you with something new, even in something old. This link is to a Youtube "video" (there's no video, just a pic of Neil and the audio playing) of the isolated drum and bass tracks of La Villa but you can hear the guitar from the song playing faintly in the background. Go to the 4:00 mark and listen for about 40 seconds, do it a couple of times and tune out the drums and focus on the faint guitar in the background, sing along to it in your head even. At 4:10 you can hear an ascending riff playing even more faintly behind the solo we know from the recording. Listening further you can hear fragmented bits and pieces for the next 30 seconds or so with another spot being at about 4:28, but at 4:33 as Alex bends that A up to B (I think) you can really hear that same ascending riff faintly behind it all. Now this in no way is going to change your life or anything, and when it's all said and done it's not too terribly impressive, but, if you are an olde skool fan like me, and for ages have heard of this illusive creature, then this is your chance to finally hear a ghost.

  2. As has been pointed out already, it is unfair to compare pretty much anyone with Freddie..he was one of those freakish, unusual once in a lifetime talents. None of this detracts at all from Geddys ability

  4. So my son blessed me with the 1997-2007 CD collection for my 53rd Birthday. I was so surprised as many of the CD's I already had contained in the set were getting very worn by time. So the Vapor Trails remix was in the set. Believe it or not I had not heard it yet. Probably because I am one of those :rush: fans that respect all the music the band has made. Vapor Trails was not like a "fav" but I do like a lot of songs. Many of my :rush: fan friends do not care for the album at all but give it a pass as we all know what Niel went through prior to the conception of this album. Anyhoo how surprised I was with the remix! I though there were many many improvements to the whole shebang, especially the new lead of Ceiling Unlimited. My Son even commented on if the album had been originally been released in this way ("it's more like a rock album rather than 3 old dudes with too many dials on the mixer") he wouldn't have formulated the opinion that "new :rush: sucks"! (His words) I can tell you it has had many many spins on my long drive to work. On another note I really liked the box set! Especially they kept true to the album art in miniature. Long Live :rush:

  8. Geddy was a very good vocalist, but against Freddie there is no contest!

  9. As far as singing ability, Freddie hands down. He was always a more accomplished singer than Geddy. However Geddys voice always fit their music perfectly.

Mick But you are wrong. How do you feel about Leave It? Yes i don't think was very good at the pop thing. i stronly dislike the 90125 album. Mick I like the album and BG. But it's like...the same sort of like you have for that goofy kid that gets picked on...he's sweet but you kinda get why he's annoying. that's actually the image, lol. like Jon Anderson just dancing in your face going let me hang with you.......i'm so cool, lol it is annoying......but a funny image, lol Mick I will honest though and say I think Signals sucks as hard as both 90125 and BG. Worse actually. That made me laugh, but I had coffee in my mouth, and now things are sticky. F*ck you and your comedy stylings Toto-lover!

  20. Impossible to pick only five. Too many great songs. Even their last album has some of the best songs they've done in quite some time.

  21. Why post in the thread then? We'll I opened the thread thinking I would see Aerosmith and/or Led Zeppelin, but looked at the poll and I never owned any of these albums. I could of posted Aerosmith - Rocks and Led Zep - Presence like others did, but I thought that would be repetitive. Since I took the time to look at this thread and poll, I wanted to contribute something.

  24. Fantastic song. It was a great intro to Rabin and how he would change the sound of Yes. Overall, I wasn't that much a fan of 80's Yes but there were a few shining moments. http://youtu.be/IYLvYdH06nY

  34. There's lots of people making love, but no mention af Geoff Boyott's average. Oh Your_Lion, are you going to do anything or are you just going to show me films all evening? What's the meaning of this? Who is this? Your_Lion, don't you understand, it's me that loves you. :boohoo: Heavens, it's my lucky day, isn't it. All right, but you'll have to wait until I've married these two, sir. No, no, no, no. I don't want to wait. At nine o'clock tomorrow, I want to be in there, (lion) taming. Well, Kirkie, doll, there are no lions in the Antarctic, baby. I've had my lot of the Arctic Circle. I wish I was back in Oldham. Now if you and your pal had one big wish, Blackhawkrush, what would you like to see on television? Attila the Nun. A simple country girl who took a vow of eternal brutality. The same. Only more violent Violence, terror and torture that makes a smashing film. It contains scenes of violence, involving people's heads and arms getting chopped off, their ears nailed to trees, and their toenails pulled out in slow motion. There are also scenes of naked women with floppy breasts, and also at one point you can see a pair of buttocks and there's another bit where I'll swear you can see everything, but my friend says it's just the way he's holding the spear. Twentieth Century Vole presents "The Semaphore Version of Wuthering Heights." :poke: Alfred Hitchcock, who's supposed to be so bloody wonderful, padded that out to one and a half hours We've been having a wee bit of trouble with him you know what I mean? Know what I mean. Know what I mean? Nudge nudge. Know what I mean? Nudge nudge. Nudge nudge. Say...no...more That's a walk-off. That's what this is! I'm afraid my walk has become rather sillier recently, and so it takes me rather longer to get to work. Always were late, weren't you Citizen Thompson? No more sherry for me don't you know. This is a late Citizen

  35. I really am glad that Styx is still with us and is willing to play....but I gotta be honest, they have been stuck in a nearly 18 year long rut playing the same songs over and over again and never doing anything different. The 2011 Grand Illusion/Pieces of Eight tour gave them the oppurtunity to play some deeper cuts, which they still are to this day, however its the same deep cuts every single night. I mean, yesterday they announced a SUPER MAJOR AWESOME ANNOUNCEMENT FOR 2017 and got everybody's hopes up that they were going to do something different. Maybe a new album? Maybe a concert where they do Paradise Theater or Crystal Ball or whatever in it's entirety? the announcement was just them announcing that they're going to do a summer tour with REO for the ten billionth time. I know everybody likes to give DDY shit, but at least with him, the band at least had SOME musical output and they did some things that were different....But as much as Tommy and JY have done a great job keeping Styx alive, they really don't want to do anything different. They just want the same old same old.

  39. http://www.gonorthwest.com/Washington/images_wa/map.jpg I was born in Spokane, about 200 miles from Puget Sound, as the crow flies. I lived in Tacoma and, later, Shelton (just north of Olympia), which are right on the water. I also lived in San Diego, CA and Veracruz, Mexico, both port cities.

Also, if you are FB friends with me, please don't post anything about it; our extended family and friends do not know yet and probably wont for a while. here is my growing family! 42. Fleetwood Mac's Sara and also The Cars' Since I Held You, remind me of the same girl in Jr. High that I loved like only an 8th grader can love ;) (to be clear, pretty superficially). E. John's Rocket Man (and most of Greatest hits really) remind me of playing "sock hockey" -- played with 12" rulers and a sock rolled in a ball and wrapped with duct tape -- on the living room floor of my childhood home TSRTS's No Quarter reminds me of summer vacation, Jr. High. Eating Doritos and staring at the LP book photos from the movie. I could go on and on I suppose.

  43. Lucas! You are like my little brother! You are a good man!!!! I love you too! You are real. You try and keep the peace. I prefer "PIECE OF MIND!" Because I am immature and an egoist. I will never grow up. Some call me Peter Pan and I was married to Wendy for 19 years. With her faithfully for 21 years. But shit happens. So you can call me..... "WRATHCHILD" instead!!!! UP THE IRONS BITCH! LOL
