  1. Well knock another drummer off my bucket list. Finally got to meet Dave Weckl at a meet and greet at Yoshi's in Oakland Ca. A gem of a joint with the best sushi in Northern California. I've met a plethora of musicians there. Simon Phillips, Steve Gadd, and Michael Schenker. All cool cats in my book. Weckl? Pure class and down to earth! Of course I wore my black "RUSH" original logo t shirt. We talked about all kinds of stuff. There were only 8 people there for the meet and greet so you know me. I blabbed on and on and on and Dave was totally awesome!!! So the first thing I mentioned was the "Burning For Buddy" sessions. I asked him how it went and how was Neil with everyone? He told me: "Well it was Neil's project so he was really excited about it. He was always upbeat, telling jokes and stories with the other guys." So I guess it's safe to say that when Neil is in his comfort zone, i.e. "The Drummer Collective" everything is just peachy. Doesn't surprise me at all. I then told him that I got into Neil's drumming at a very young age. I told him, "I can play to every Rush record all the way through, but when I try to play to your records I can't get it all." Dave said, "Well Neil has a very different approach to the drum kit. His style of drumming very systematic where in the world a Jazz you need to develop more of a fluid style of play." I told him that I wish I studied jazz instead of progressive rock. He just laughed. So then we started talking about race tracks. I had no idea that Dave loves to get on a race track and floor it. He told me that during the "Burning For Buddy" project many of the drummers hit the race track to have some fun. Neil was one of those guys! He said Neil loved hitting the race track! Doesn't surprise me at all! We talked about divorce too. But I won't type about that shit. Music is my bride. Drums are my manic mistress. I know there was a long time inside joke about Dave Weckl on this Forum. It's a bit fuzzy but now that I met the man I am totally pumped!!!! TOP FIVE DRUMMERS IN THE WORLD: 1. NEIL PEART 2. SIMON PHILLIPS 3. DAVE WECKL 4. STEWART COPELAND 5. STEVE GADD I'VE MET THEM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As a drummer I AM BLESSED!!!!! CIAO!!!

  6. A lot really. It's probably my favourite place on the internet. Made a lot of friends and I can talk to them about RUSH. That's a lot harder to do in the real world

  7. Peart is hoping that RUSH fans are beginning to forget about him now that he's "retired" so he can walk around downtown Los Angeles without being recognised as a prog snob drummer and so he can blend in with the gay biker types once and for all.

  8. Interesting for Rush fans to not relate to a band taking chances and not getting stale. Its one album, not the tone for the rest of there career. Besides you know you want to see this epic! http://fotos.fotoflexer.com/61649ec8164091c0dfb19074a80ac2c8.jpg

  12. Another cool story Earl! Hey, when are you going to meet Stewart Copeland? I read his bio in an exotic place, on a crazy situation: my wife and I were vacationing in the Galapagos Islands and were told about an approaching tsunami. we had to leave the hotel and find a place to stay in the upper part of one of the islands. We only had mats to sleep on, so I was quite uncomfortable and decided to stay awake - I only had Stewart´s book as a companion, so I went through it in one night!

  16. That's double the fee that I got covering that report of Peart taking a piss in Taipei! Yeah but just the experience alone is worth it. That's true. The Taiwanese chef & his wife that I interviewed were pleasant enough. But info was sparse... http://www.taipeitimes.com/images/2004/08/23/20040822200653.jpeg Me: So there was a report of Neil Peart coming into your establishment to relieve himself? Chef's wife: Yes. Neil Peart came in to our restaurant to pee. Then he left. Maybe 45 to 50 seconds total. I don't think he washed his hands. Chef: Yes. I don't think he washed his hands.

Eight years...wow, how did that happen? I'm glad it did though, as I've had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful people such as yourselves. Thank you for making TRF a great place to visit and a place to exchange ideas on Rush, music and all sorts of things in life. Many blessings to you all!

  29. You two RULE!! THANK YOU! I'm on CLOUD NINE!!!! I really needed this night boys. Seriously. I had the front row right in front of Dave's kit. I was in HEAVEN. Had tiny tears in my eyes of wonderment. The last time I saw Dave was like 5 years ago. I was front row same table with my ex-wife. It was when he was in the Chick Corea Elecktric Band. Absolutely stunning. It was their last show in America so after Dave's drum solo the band went back into a quick jam featuring Chick on the Keytar. Killer. Just like the Ghost fella. LOL So they all came out on the stage and bowed. I yelled at Dave, "GOOD LUCK IN TOKYO!" He came over to me and handed me his drumsticks! I was in awe. People in the crowd were buzzing around me. He mouthed something to me like, "If you aren't a drummer no worries." Well there must be Fate or Karma Or Destiny or just flat out luck. 5 years later I was able to tell him that story and that he made a great choice because I AM A DRUMMER!! So it's also very strange. 5 years ago I was at table 6 front row. Tonight I was at table 6 front row. The way I feel I look at it this way. I am very blessed and very lucky in this life. Music and drumming have been very good to me. Women? Well being with one for 21 years was a blessing too, but now going forward. Forget it. I will emerge myself in my daughters, music, drums and concerts. Sports too. Anyway back to the band!!!! Tom Kennedy was on the bass. He was right above me too. AMAZING!!!!!!! Stanley Clarke meets Les Claypool. The piano player was off the charts too. The sax player amazing as well. The Dave Weckl Acoustic Band was a 10!!!!!!!! I've seen a shitload of shows guys. This was one of the best! Everybody knows that Neil can't swing. I loved his double bass matchstick grip daze. Oh well. I'm going to play to some Weckl solo stuff tomorrow. "Heads Up" is a great record. Ever listen to the tune, "7th Avenue South?" It will blow your mind. I mentioned that song to Dave. I told him that I have a very hard time playing to it. He just looked at me and smiled. He autographed my 8 x 11 paper ticket. As he handed it back to me he dropped it, but caught it in midair with both hands. He instantly responded, "Whew..... fast hands!" Classic shit. I love him.

  32. OK, there seems to be some confusion on the scorecard - No, Rush will not reunite for a R45 Tour - Yes, Geddy and Alex will make new music .. when asked, just imagine Neil saying Yes, I know, it's nothing new It's just a waste of time I have no need for ancient ways My world is doing fine - What You're Doing never sounded better than when John Rutsey played it I have been cooking wild rice now for what seems like 2 hours - the directions said 30-45 minutes

  33. I am an unashamed lover of this song. The poppy, upbeat tempo juxtaposed to the rather dark, resolved lyrics are, I think, by design. It is a very clever song....and something I think anyone who has dealt with a long, deep bout of depression can relate to.

  35. This should've been a song released by Rush. Contains singing by Geddy's keyboard tech Jack Secret, and of course the guys. Skip plays bass. OK, it's pretty bad, but there's some interesting progressions here. Pretty sure few people really know about the two tracks they did with Jack. Though I'm sure eaglemoon will claim to have this on vinyl. I'm here to help educate ya'll--TM In the Signals tour book, Neil talks about some down time the band had while it was mixing its live album Exit . . . Stage Left. “There was really not much for us to do except say “it sounds good” or “it doesn’t sound good.” The result of that inactivity was “Tough Break,” a piece that Neil helped Tony Geranios (Jack Secret) and Skip Gildersleeve put together. Geranios was the band’s guitar and keyboard tech, and Gildersleeve was its stage left technician. Geddy and Alex jumped in on keyboards and rhythm guitar. Jack Secret was the frontman. Neil doesn’t say what Skip Gildersleeve’s part in all of it was. Maybe bass. (Update: In sad news, Skip passed away in Sept. 2013.) They called themselves the Fab Pros and the piece is about a roadie who learns his wife is fooling around while he’s on tour. He says he was ready to play the family man when he got back home, but his wife can forget that now! He then laments, “Every woman that I’ve ever known / Has been the same.” The piece appears as a bonus track on a bootleg CD of the band’s show at the Spectrum in Philadelphia on April 16, 1986. In 2008, two blogs, Counterparts and Rush is a Band, linked to the piece and talked about its origins. Lyrics: Girl, I heard some people talking On the road the other day It was some of the boys from the other band And they were saying your name I just stood there listening Growing angry, feeling wronged I couldn’t believe that you would deceive me Could I be that wrong? Am I a fool? Playing your game Every woman that I’ve ever known Has been the same Has been the same Been the same, yeah Your boys know of my life on the road Something I had to do with the band And when I was through I would be home with you Playing the family man But now things are different Girl, what was your plan? Why you lied to me when you could have been free This I don’t understand Am I a fool? Playing your game Every woman that I’ve ever known Has been the same Has been the same Been the same, yeah Am I a fool? Playing your game Every woman that I’ve ever known Has been the same Has been the same Been the same, yeah Causing me pain Causing me pain Been the same, yeah By the Fab Pros Vocals: Tony Geranios (Jack Secret) Bass: Skip Gildersleeve [?] Rhythm guitar: Alex Lifeson Keyboards: Geddy Lee Drums: Neil Peart Recording: Le Studio, Moran Heights, Quebec, 1981

  39. Lucas, what album do you think Rush finally came into their own? That's tough, as I really love everything from the beginning .. But when I think of "Rush", I think of A Farewell To Kings, and how they realized all that potential The best way I can say it is that A Farewell To Kings was the album they really hit on that cinematic element - we saw hints in The Necromancer and 2112 - but Rush became RUSH in 1977 ...... Cygnus X1 and Xanadu are masterpieces

  40. TA-LOVE IT! Act One is DT at their best, but Act Two is not too far behind, though the last few tracks are a bit overblown to say the least, and Hymn of a Thosand Voices is pretty awful actually. Happily the rest of the album is very, very good, and my favourite songs include Act of Faythe,Three Days,A Life Left Behind,A New Beginning, and The Path That Divides. Disappointed with the packaging however! DT have delivered a quality record!

  42. Caress Of Steel is not just a fantastic album, but it is an exciting document from a band that was literally growing right before our eyes ( ears ? ) The progress the band was making at this time was amazing - and that is so much more exciting than simply having a bunch of seasoned musicians get together to record music Rush was finding their way, and the fans were along for the ride

  44. Something like this: I dropped my daughter off at school and sped away quickly in one of my vintage cars before any school personnel asked for my autograph. I then stopped at Timmy Horton's and took home a half dozen to get me through a long day of changing the oil in all my vintage cars. Since it's Wedsnesday and trash day, I told Micheal to put down the remote, get off his ass and take the garbage out to the street. I also warned him to make sure he's packing his glock in case there's aggressive garbage 'technicians'.

  47. Oh if I may suggest, sir ... the pheasant à la reine, the sauce is one of the chefs most famous creations. Don't have any of the vicar over there. He's been here two weeks and nobody's touched him. 'Nuff said? :boo hiss: I don't mind, I don't mind, it's just nice to be here, Reverend. Yes, they've done wonders with it. You know this used to be one of the most swampy disease infested areas of the whole jungle, and they've turned it into this smashing little restaurant. It sank into the swamp. So, I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third one. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. :D I quite agree. I mean, providing the tenants are of light build and relatively sedentary and er, given a spot of good weather, I think we're on to a winner here. But even more modern building techniques are being used on an expanding new town site near Peterborough; here the Amazing Mystico and Janet can put up a block of flats by hypnosis in under a minute. Oh hello, Janet, how are you love? Oh, I've had such a morning in TRF. I could stamp my little feet the way those New World Women carry on. :whipgirl: you must give them all a good spanking! And after the spanking ... the oral sex. TRF would like to apologize for the poor quality of the writing in that thread. It is not TRF policy to get easy laughs with words like bum, knickers, botty or wee-wees. Ssssh! Don't you 'shhhh' me. Eighteen years of total silence, and you 'shhhh' me!
