  1. I've said it before and I will say it again. The very last song Rush should do on their very last tour is Xanadu in its entirety.

  3. this made me laugh so much I thought I was gonna flood the bed! Why doesn't a mod get rid of this one, eh? It's way more revealing and disgusting to boot. Double standard. Why is it disgusting? Do overweight people offend you? Not if they keep their clothes on and behave normally. I don't want to see some skinny guy doing that either. But if topless or even bathing suit attired women can't be shown for some prudish reason, why is that allowed? Well, context. I don't think that anybody is getting a hard-on or a lady-boner looking at this, it's humorous and for laughs. Overweight people do not need to "keep their clothes on and behave normally." Wow. Do you have an issue with chubby girls in two piece swimsuits as well? Depends on the level of chubbiness. Since it seems we can't post bikini clad women, it would be difficult to show examples but I certainly don't mind a woman that is considered full figured. But a woman that size of that guy^^^^^^, shouldn't be wearing a bikini any more than he should be wearing a speedo. Be careful, you are on the verge of fat-shaming here. It doesn't matter if the target is male or female, if the video is done seriously or as a joke. It all comes down to if you are at all embarrassing or disgracing a person based on the size of their body then it is fat-shaming. So what if a person is fat? No one says you have to like it. If you don't find this guy attractive because he's too heavy for you then fine. But once you start making fun of him for his weight then that is wrong. You have no right to tell someone what they can and cannot wear based on their size. If you want to make fun of someone go over to the thread about the mankinis. Those guys brought it upon themselves. Fat - shaming? More PC BS! For example, I am lean/skinny. Have been all my life. I have had people kid/joke with me about it. Is there such a thing as Skinny - shaming? That's not PC BS, when you tell somebody they shouldn't wear or do something because of their size, that is fat shaming. There is skinny shaming as well, yes and I think it can be just as hurtful. But we have to admit overweight people take the brunt of it from society. Fat shamingA term made by obese people to avoid the responsibility to actually take proper care of their body and instead victimize themself by pretending they're discriminated like an ethnic group. When confronted with someone like that they will ignore all the facts about obesity being unhealthy and pretend it's some sort of evil socially constructed conspiracy by teh patriarchy Peter: "You've started gaining weight at a worrying level, maybe we could exercise together and take up a sport since you're always at home" Bianca: "omg stop disciminating me you're just fat shaming, all my fat is genetics and exercising is just a social construct made by our sexist society, i'm not being brainwashed into ur shauvinistic world" *Bianca then proceeds to eat burgers and refuses to better herself* I am going to assume that this definition in the Urban Dictionary is not what we are talking about here..... No, it's the opposite. Say for example you're working out on a treadmill at the gym, doing the best you can and a super buff guy gets on next to you with his equally buff friend and says something like, "I like to workout next to the fat people, it keeps me more motivated." Any time I see someone at the gym who is seriously overweight I think, "Good for them!" I know it took a tremendous amount of steely resolve for them to brave going in there. I'd love to offer some encouragement, but am never sure how that would be received. There's a fifty-something-ish couple who belong there now and I've watched their progress over the past year. The wife has lost over 85 lbs (I overheard her telling someone) and the husband has dropped several sizes as well.

  4. I've said this before, and, no doubt, I'll say it again, but I love Geddy's voice like I would love a friend who comforts me when I'm down. Cracks and all. It's absolutely true that when you listen to the live recordings in your house or your car or wherever you listen to music, you can hear that he doesn't sound great on every single song every single night, but I've been to 20 Rush shows since 2007, and there hasn't been a one where he didn't sound wonderful in the moment. I've never heard anyone at or after an actual Rush show say anything negative about Geddy's voice, and indeed, have many times heard sentiments such as "Wow, listening to the recording from the last tour I was afraid Geddy wouldn't sound good, but he sounds GREAT!" expressed by happy concert-goers in the afterglow. (Yeah, okay, he did make a genuinely painful flub at exactly one of the 20 shows I attended, on the line "To know how they struggled...!" from the bridge of Mission, but he is, as they say, only human And he NAILED the vocal for that entire song on the night of the live recording!) As for whether or not Rush should still be performing live, the answer is OF COURSE THEY SHOULD. Go on all you like about a zillion drum fills that Neil doesn't play anymore or the fudging Alex does through the trickiest parts of the Analog Kid solo or the slowed tempo of YYZ (Regarding which, as great as the adrenalised chimpanzee feel of the version of YYZ appears on Exit...Stage Left is, I thoroughly enjoy as an alternate take on a great piece of music the thundering heaviness of that song as played on recent tours!), but the fact is, the purpose of performing live is to give your audience an exciting and enjoyable experience while the gig is going on, and leave them feeling good afterwards. I think that the vast majority of those who have been to a Rush gig in recent years can attest to the fact that Rush's skills as a band are still amply high to accomplish that.

  5. I'll have a listen right now. In that song, the highest notes as far as I know are when he sings "cell of awareness, imperfect and incomplete"--if he can pull that off without fraying people's nerves too much, he's doing great! In Freewill (Time Machine Tour) I think Geddy does a good job—he changes the line "you still have made a choice" to save his voice from the high note, which is definitely forgiveable. The "Each of us, a cell of awareness" bit I think he pulls off quite well—you can tell it's a bit of a struggle, but he does it, and you can hear the crowd roar its appreciation. (I remember that at the Hamilton show my friends and I grinned like idiots at each other). I think if he were to change that bit too much, it would be disappointing, so I appreciate that he makes the effort. Now, in the same show, he sings Time Stand Still, which I don't think works that well (listen to his lines after Aimee Mann's part, and to "Freeze this moment a little bit longer")--I don't think he quite nails those bits—it's not terrible, but it hurts my heart a bit. Update: it gets better as the song progresses!

  6. I imagine you could probably take the rims and heads off and repurpose them as hanging lights around the house. They'd be quote a conversation piece.

  10. Or at least no one would be foolish enough to try a challenge. I'll let you into a secret - I played fart tennis. An old married couple is laying in bed. The husband lifts his leg and lets out a huge fart, and exclaims "I'm winning 7 to nothing!" His wife is puzzled and she says "what?" The husband says "it's fart football, I'm winning 7 to nothing." A minute later, the wife rips a big fart and yells "tie game! 7-7!" Then the wife lets out a little squeaker and says "field goal. I'm winning 10-7." The husbands face then gets all red, as he pushes ever harder...and eventually ends up trying so hard, he shits the bed. His wife says "what the hell was that?" to which, her husband replies "HALF TIME....SWITCH SIDES!!!!" :D

  12. I must amend my top five list: 1. A Farewell To Kings 2. Hemispheres 3. Permanent Waves 4. Moving Pictures 5. Grace Under Pressure :) I have concluded that it is almost blasphemous to include Counterparts in this list.

  14. How weird is that. I'm watching Clockwork Angels right now, and the song is Grand Designs. The next song is Body Electric...I'll give it a close listen. Okay...not bad, not bad! Geddy sounds a bit like an opera singer during the 1-0-0-1 bit (how he extends each "one"...), and there is a little boo-boo there before the solo, but I think the song works well live. For the most part, live Geddy sounds much like album Geddy.

  19. Now that's PAAASSSSIVE aggressive. Yep. I'm not averse to direct confrontation (I tend to be shy, but I find as I approach middle age that my tolerance for rudeness and general idiocy is in sharp decline), but sometimes passive aggressive is fun. Smelly guy at the gym is often there; I don't know what his deal is but he smells like Hell's ass crack. There's general sweat smell, which you expect at a gym; I myself am an Olympic class sweater. Then there's just dirty, which is how this dude smells. I suspect his gym clothes go a long time between spells in a washer.

  27. I started listening to Rush in 1980 and loved pretty much everything they did (with the exception of the 1st album) as soon as I heard it. I was even okay with Signals and p/g. But then Power Windows came out and it was the beginning of the end for me. Gone were Rush's heaviness and unique style, and I heard them beginning to sound like an easy listening band—something I wanted no part of. (When HYF came out it was the final nail in their coffin for me for many years.) Fast-forward to the CA tour and I suddenly realized that seeing the PoW songs live gave them a whole new meaning, and I suddenly loved several of them.

  29. You must be married and have been for a while to know that so intimately..... :D Look, I spent my entire dating life and the first few years of marriage squelching farts, even though the other half was a typical male in that not only did he fart freely and openly but took great delight in doing so. It was uncomfortable at times but, as CT says, god forbid we besmirch the feminine mystique by venting vapors from our nether regions. Suffice to say things have changed. It's hilariously funny to have the occasional fart-off with the husband. "I see your Tearing Cloth and raise you one Trombone." But last night the SOB farted into the bedroom fan deliberately. Not cool, so retaliation was swift and near-lethal.

  42. No, I'm afraid it can't be. No more girlie pics here. The old That's It threads created some trouble for us, which cost us our ad banners (we're working on getting them back), which is why those threads are gone. Never knew that. Hopefully my sig isn't causing any trouble for you. No, they're fine. They're not too revealing. We closed the That's It threads a while back because they were getting out of hand, but we still left them out here. Some time later we had our ads taken away because of all the soft porn-ish images contained in those threads so we removed them. This is the first time someone's posted a revealing girlie pic since then (as far as we know).
