  1. I'm posting this in the general RUSH forum rather than the tour forum because even though it occurred at the Nashville show, this is not concert related. Please bare with me if it goes on a little long.. this was fun for me :) Last night at the Nashville show I had the pleasure of meeting Peter Collins. I saw him walking down the aisle to his seats and as he approached where I was I simply asked "You're Peter Collins, right?" and he of course said "Yes". I extended my hand and introduced myself and simply said "Thank you". Mr. Collins seemed a little taken aback by that and so I explained "Thank you for the work you did with my favorite band. I truly appreciate it." His response was funny, to paraphrase 'I'm relieved you said that.. I'm never sure if a RUSH fan is going to thank me or want to smack me' (again, significant paraphrase because I don't remember his exact words here.. but that was the meaning behind it all). I was surprised at this point that he made no move at all to get away and I certainly wasn't blocking his path... so I just kept talking, asking small questions and even talking about other project he was involved in like Queensryche and Air Supply... to which he mentioned "(RUSH) was a bit worried the first time we met since I had just worked with Air Supply". This line of conversation ended with "Good music is good music!" At the end of our conversation which probably lasted close to 5 minutes he left me with a little anecdote regarding Counterparts (I had mentioned The Caveman). According to Mr. Collins, Kevin Shirley told Neil the first time they met that he could get his drum sound in less than 20 minutes... and although it wasn't quite 20 minutes, it wasn't much more. And that is the drum sound you hear on Counterparts! Mr. Collins then introduced me to the 2 people he was attending the show with who were also quite nice and he then went off to his seat which was about 20 feet tops from where I was... so I got a kick out of watching him watch the show.. .and he stayed for the whole thing! Now, you would think the story ends right there. But it doesn't. After the show ended P.C. and his guests start to walk out of their row and I just smile and give a nod and he walks over to ME, extends his hand and says "Thank you!" just the same way I had started the conversation earlier! Not only does he stop by me, he makes no move to carry on so I ask him if he has time for another question or two directly related to his work with RUSH.. he says "Sure!" Now many of you might think my questions were lame, I don't care. These are things I've always wondered about Hold Your Fire. 1. Is the laugh at the beginning of Force 10 Aimee Mann? -NO! It was a sample that Andy Richards had in his keyboards! (big surprise to me, I always thought for sure it was her!) —P.C. also added at that the jackhammer was another sample from Andy Richards which just happened to fit the song! (y'all are going to think I'm nuts for the next question, but it's always bothered me!) 2. Is Aimee Mann doing a harmony vocal after the bridge on Open Secrets? -P.C. "I don't remember! I'm going to have to go back and listen to that!" We shared a quick laugh, I shook the hands of his guests one last time and we said goodbye. I just thought it was incredibly cool to actually have several minutes to chat with a producer whom I not only have a tremendous amount of respect for, but who is responsible for some of my favorite music from my favorite band. Mr. Collins was incredibly friendly, gracious and generous with his time. And again I say, "Thank you..." but this time for taking the time to indulge a fan.

  2. Gotta give a big shout out to the Rush fans that "dominated the audience" in LA the other night.. Apparently Geddy had no idea there'd be such a Presence! Good job showing our appreciation for the boys and showing the world our appreciation for the the band!

  3. I gave myself sometime between listens and it holds up so well. It's fabulous. I dare say it's up there with my fav Bowie albums.

  4. I think Neil is loosing it via the receding hairline, from front to back, while Alex is getting a monk's skull cap going. Geddy is just looking better and better- pretty amazing actually...

  5. It amazes me how many good songs they have written and recorded. I saw them several times on concert and was completely entertained and satisfied each time. They definitely give the Band competition for Dylan's best backup band. Simply wonderful.

  6. Met this girl in August of 1989, she was coming to work at a store I was asst mgr of as a cashier. Turns out she was coming back with a friend to "check me out". (one eyebrow raised) we worked together at that store and another store over six months becoming closer and closer friends. Discussing our separate relationships. I broke up with the person I was seeing in January 1990. As fate would have it I asked her to "become my girl" in March of 1990, to my amazement and delight, she agreed! We started a great relationship that has been tested, strengthened, weathered and refined to what it is today. I am a very fortunate man. I am very appreciative of who my wife is and what she had given me. That's what life is all about!!

  7. Yeah, but you're eating a bag of pork scratchings and drinking a pint of mild whilst looking at the lettuce. That's your problem right there.

  9. Wha!? Geddy is so beautiful! Obviously you weren't around in 1981! No I wasn't born until 82. However that's what pictures are for. Hey! I'm an 82'er too! And I look at old photos of Geddy, and think, man, he was really cute in the 70s. But there was a little period in the 80s when he chopped off that gorgeous hair to get all mullety, in the Grace Under Pressure era, that just doesn't do it for me. But his current style (which has been more or less the same for the past 20 years!) suits him very well. Anyway. In response to the question: if tomorrow I was presented with an opportunity for a 'romantic' evening with any of the boys, I wouldn't go for it; I couldn't forget the fact that I am practically married and that each of them is married - I'm not going to let my own moral compass slip for anybody. I would love to have an evening to just hang out with them, without 'romantic' overtures, and maybe play some bass or just have a few drinks and chat. I realize this is kind of incongruous with the posts I've made regarding a certain Rush boy's butt, but reality is different from virtuality. Holding someone's butt in high esteem doesn't mean I automatically want to do naughty things with it, given an opportunity. But, now, if we had holodeck technology, and there was an opportunity to create a Geddy.... But this is a whole other can of worms. I've had this discussion with my boyfriend, who would very much love to explore a holodeck - would doing naughty things with computer-generated, virtual people, be considered morally wrong or cheating? Or is it a kind of "what happens on the holodeck, stays on the holodeck" kind of thing? Geddy could put a dead hamster on his head and I'd still think he's gorgeous. We all made bad hair mistakes in the 80's... or our mothers did for us (thanks mom). I thought it was a large guinea pig pelt that he wears, did he go hamster all of a sudden?

  10. I really, really, can't stand the idea of being a dark spot on any marriage of decades. Particularly not in the case of someone I respect or like as a person. I wouldn't do it. BUT -- my crafty little brain works in funny ways. I'd pick Neil --- just because I think he'd be a terribly intriguing conversation (not that the other two wouldn't, but NP even more so). So I'd talk with him as long as I could string it out --- and THEN claim a headache, before it led elsewhere. Or, perhaps tell him "this is not a love song -- this isn't fantasy land." ;) Alex between like 1980 - to early 90s would take a strong act of will --- but still, no.

  16. In my alternate reality where I'm not married and neither is Alex, absofrikkenlutely. The fantasy is the combination of the hot monkey sex and the meaningful relationship. Being a one-night port in a storm isn't very appealing to me, not matter who the guy is. Call me old-fashioned. *shrug* On the other hand, there's this: http://photos.rush.com/Rush2013/Nashville/29209579_pZF3kB#!i=2489009477&k=skqCrMb&lb=1&s=A. What was I saying?

  17. I have that too. They are one of my top 5 favorite bands. Great live shows. I bought the Damn the Torpedoes album when it first came out, and I still listen to it regularly. Their Greatest Hits rarely leaves my CD changer. If America was a bar, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers would be the house band.

  18. That is the key, isn't it? I can sing quite a few Rush songs- for about an hour or so. After that, it gets to be a strain to keep my voice in that upper register...major Geddy appreciation for what he's done over the past forty years, holy moly... Oh, and back on topic- Turn the Page

I think Al is man enough to handle us both K. ;) sounds like a deal. let's do this! ::game face:: I can't even lie. I'm not much to look at, but I would rock his world.

  25. I recently finished a listening marathon of all of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Studio / Live / Compilations and a bunch of boots as well. I have been a fan forever...just love his music. I am catching multiple shows this month at Beacon Theatre in New York City. A true American treasure. I have to agree with the post that pointed out The Heartbreakers backing Johnny Cash on his American Recordings...good stuff.

So why bother watching super hero features then? Why not watch a police film or a film about firemen? A nightwatchmen extravaganza perhaps? Why allow the spandex suits of real superheroes to assault your eyes? Why allow their super-powered acts to invade your regular hero-supporting mindset? Why allow their tacky nicknames to inveigle your sensitive ordinary man lexicon? 40. This dude is basically my biggest hero and inspiration more than any other musician. Love his "heart on sleeve" integrity. Fitting how George Harrison said there's no bullsh-t about this guy. He doesn't act foolish compared to certain relics of classic rock that sell out to the teenybopper crowd. *cough*Steven Tyler*cough* Love his Mudcrutch songs from the Playback box set and that 2008 album as well.

  41. I saw their live show in... 2007, I think it was. Great show, and it made me appreciate how many well-crafted songs Petty has penned. I can't say I'm a huge fan, though. My interest rises and falls, with summer being the peak. Petty's music is perfect for cruising on a sunny day.

  42. Sadly, this is not new at all my friend. I don't consider people sitting a "sin", but I damn sure consider people asking others to sit down a "sin". This is a rock concert, and people should be allowed to stand if they so please. I'm of the mindset that if you plan to sit, that's okay...but be aware that you might be sitting behind others who stand. That's why lately, I've been spending way more money to get close floor seats. So far, it has allowed me to stand freely...which I've loved. :guitar:
