  1. Boy, you as you can see. #3 for us, (all boys) the first two are already big rush fans, we might have a band on our hands!

  2. YOU bumped this? I figured it was Sheldon. :P I don't think I ever saw this. Well no, it IS three and a half years old. Did Babycat do a search for "boob"? No, she did not do a search for boob. The only result that comes up when you do a search for boob is Sheldon Cooper.

  3. It might be different if Rutsey was playing on the first 3 or 4 albums. Let's face it...the drumming on the first album was garage band basic. Can anyone in their right mind say that he played a major contribution in what Rush became? Didn't think so. It's not like anyone is trying to piss on his grave, but this is not a issue worth arguing over. What about Jeff Jones, the bassist before Geddy? Or the guy that Alex jammed with in 8th grade? This is like my girlfriend 40 years ago not inviting me to her wedding. Old news...big effin deal...get over it.

  4. For some reason one of my favorite passages has been running through my mind lately so I thought I'd start a thread and see how it goes. Just post your favorite line or passage from any RUSH song. This is one of mine.... Too many hands on my time. Too many feelings. Too many things on my mind. When I leave I don't know what I'm hoping to find. And when I leave I don't know what I'm leaving behind....

  5. I don't think any of the songs would have stood out to any radio stations the way Working Man did in Cleveland. It would have been a much bigger risk for a record company to sign them based on Fly by Night. It's a great album but it's a little bit all over the place as far as musical styles go and that confuses record companies.

  9. With all the talk of whether or not Rush will mention John Rutsey in their RRHOF induction speech, and how far Rush would have continued on (or not) had Rutsey stayed in the band and Peart never joined, what if Fly By Night with Neil was their first album? Would it have garnered enough attention to allow Rush to continue? Would they have gotten a record contract from a major label based on the demos of FBN material, or would they have had to release it on their own like they actually did with their debut album? It's a tough question, as are all "what if" questions, as it's pure speculation, but I wonder. The circumstances ( ;) ) of Rush's early history that got them really noticed (Donna Halper, Working Man, etc.) were very specific. What if the band had come on the scene in 1975 (or even 1974) with the Fly By Night album. Would the song Fly By Night still have been a minor hit? Maybe Anthem? Making Memories? Certainly By-Tor or Rivendell wouldn't have propelled them into the spotlight! Think about it. With Fly By Night they were kinda somewhat prog, but would that album really have been noticed among all the great rock and prog albums of the day if it was their first, especially since by 1975 prog as a genre was losing popularity? Without the momentum of their first album and Working Man and the modest fan base they had acquired as a Zeppelin-like band, would Fly By Night truly have been, to paraphrase from the dictionary definition of the term, "of an impermanent or insubstantial nature," to the point that they wouldn't have been able to progress further?

  15. I especially love it as the opener for the VT tour - fantastic choice for their comeback tour. It's their signature tune - anyone who is really, truly upset by having to endure Tom Sawyer in concert really needs to do some re-evaluating.

  16. Well I think ABBA were quite honest in their songs....Sure they have party songs, but their sad songs are TRULY sad. Just youtube Winner Takes It All. They take on heartbreak was particularly raw. Brilliant. No more carefree laughter Silence ever after Walking through an empty house Tears in my eyes Here is where the story ends This is goodbye

  17. But regardless, something about this is off. They don't really specify what controls they used or if the women were categorized by similar breast size, height, weight...etc. For all we know the women studied could have all been 30a cups. If that was the case then the data collected would not apply too women of a larger size, band size or body type and could be detrimental if they followed suit to what the article specified. Secondly, any of us who have read National Geographic have probably seen the wild women of Africa, or whatever it is called, and can see that these women whom have never worn a shirt let alone a bra are not perky, but quite the opposite. I don't know, I call shenanigans on this.

  20. Looking forward to seeing this, ashamed to say never got around to watching original"The Jackie Robinson Story" staring the man himself... With all accolades justly deserving and with the violent ignorant racism Robinson had to endure in his first year with the Dodgers. We should also remember Larry Doby the first black player in the American League with Bill Veeck's Cleveland Indians, just month's after Jackie broke the color barrier. But not like Jackie who was first integrated through the Brooklyn farm system. Veeck had a different approach and had Doby go directly from the Negro League to Cleveland of the American League. (The day he signed with Cleveland he was in the lineup against the WhiteSoxs )Many think because of this Doby had it much worse then Jackie trying to adapt in the segregated American League. And had to endure the same level of blatant prejudice by opposing teams, fans and team mates.... But without the focus and fanfare of the media simply because he was not first in the Majors. Hall Of Famer, 7 time American League All Star helped the Indians win there last World Championship in 1948. (first black player to hit a home run in W.S.)

  21. They will play The Necromancer from beginning to end...then Geddy will say...'hey RRHOF....suck it!' and they'll storm off the stage. Then I woke up.

  24. It's fun to speculate - but all things have their place in the scheme of things. Would Donna Halper have put "Fly By Night" into heavy rotation had that been the first single she heard? I would venture to say probably not - Working Man was the right song at the right time. So, it will be nice for the guys to give a shout out to Rutsey.

  25. I can't believe I forgot about this one. This one definitely takes me back to the summer of 1982 when MTV was playing this tune in heavy rotation.

  26. I can't get the link to work! Oh well! It's interesting I found this thread today as I got measured up for the first time in years and bought new bras. And yes, like many women out there I had totally the wrong size! No support. It's been mentioned back on page 2/3 of this thread about bigger cup and smaller band and that's precisely what's happened with me. I was wearing a 38C now I've got 34DDs!!! They've also got cushions along the bottom to give me a bit of lift and support.

  28. Maybe it's a case of all the stars being aligned and no other combination would have worked things out as they have. However, as someone who became a Rush fan during my freshman year of high school (1980-81), I can tell you that the only Rush song I can recall ever hearing before "Tom Sawyer" is "Fly By Night." FBN (the single) got a lot of play in 1975 on even the kinds of radio stations my parents had on in the car—which wasn't AOR! Based on that, one might argue that Rush could've taken off with FBN, but even that song wouldn't have been written (I suspect) had not Neil's "ship come in" in the form of joining the band and heading out on tour in 1974—something that only happened due to "Working Man."

  31. I don't see Best I Can as a single. It's a fun little rock tune but it still seems very bar-bandy to me. Fly By Night was, as we know, their 2nd album and Rush didn't even think of Best I Can as a single. The fact is is that the singles off that album were Fly By Night and Making Memories...and not even those tunes did all that well. That debut album was important in planting Rush's roots and getting people interested...and I think Working Man DID that. Fly By Night might've been too weird coming straight out of the gate. People just might not have latched on right away. However, 2112 kind of negates all of this speculation anyway...I mean, releasing 2112 assured them that core fan base regardless if it was their 3rd or 4th album

  33. So, I saw the concert in Boston last night. I don't go to many concerts these days, Rush is about it. I really have no interest in seeing nostalgia acts, so it was very interesting to see a concert crowd for a current band. There were many enthusiastic, young faces. The crowd was far less...er...fragrant than Rush's audience. Certainly, a lot less grey hair than you see at a typical Rush show. The openers were good. They were from Scotland and had a folksy feel incorporated into some hard driving and straight ahead rock and roll. I don't recall their name. Muse puts on a fantastic show. There were "tips of the hat" to Zeppelin (Heartbreaker), The Animals (House of the Rising Sun), Simon and Garfunkel (The 59th St. Bridge Song). The sound was typical for an arena. We were straight back from the stage on the lower balcony at stage height and had an excellent view of the breadth of the show. The stage was large and open with a drum riser and a riser on each side of the stage. The stage is astounding as it is one giant video screen made up of many components. My favorite visual of the evening was Matt Bellamy's grand piano with a clear top displaying LED lights for the notes he was playing. Watching the progression of the chord forms through the songs was mesmerizing. :o All in all, it was a wonderful show and one that is definitely worth seeing. :ebert:

  34. I don't think thats actually that good of a career representation, every song is from their second (and most popular era), all the songs you chose were written within three years of eachother and don't reflect their 40 year + career. To represent their span of work, they should probably look at playing (Working man or Fly By Night or 2112), (Tom Sawyer or TSOR Or Closer to the Heart), (Subdivisions or The Big Money or Distant Early Warning), (Dreamline or Roll the Bones or Show don't Tell), and (Far Cry or Headlong Flight or One Little Victory) I agree with this. I watched the SARStock performance and it's certainly what a mainstream fan would call their "Greatest Hits" or most popular radio songs, however a real representation of their career would have to touch on something from the 70's. 2112 is the work that always gets mentioned in biographies, which is funny because 2112 never got played on L.A. rock radio back in the day (KLOS / KMET). I think the first time I heard 2112 (Overture/Temples) was on that mid-80s heavy metal station KNAC-- some late-night DJ got the balls to play it. Anyway, I digress, but a 3-song set representative of their career is IMPOSSIBLE for RUSH. If they play TS and TSOR in their entirety, that's almost the entire set. I suggested a medley like the RTB tour medley or the R30 medley. Since Geddy didn't sing (except for Oh Yeah!!) on the R30 medley, I suggested having Taylor Hawkins or Dave Grohl sing some parts of Finding my Way, Anthem, Bangkok. If they did a version of the R30 Medley, I would suggest replacing the Hemispheres stuff with part of La Villa then breaking into TSOR and rapping up with TS. Though I'm still wondering if RUSH wouldn't gratefully allow Public Enemy to have some fun with TS. Although it's their most well-known and iconic songs, they should look for a way to not perform it as a way of saying "We're way more that just this one song." That's all well and good. But let's be real for moment. Without Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures......we are not having this conversation about the RRHOF which to be honest I could give a rats ass about anyway. Rush is my all time favorite band (obviously) and RRHOF is nothing but a farce for the most part. Those I mentioned are probably some of the most popular songs in their vast and amazing catalog. Nothing can be a complete career representation...over 4 songs. But TSOR and TS are no doubt being played as those 2 songs are by far their most well known.....they throw in a instrumental like I expect it is YYZ. Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures are the two most enduring an influential Rush albums along with 2112. Those 3 records are the absolute gold standard for Rush around the world. Heck maybe they play Overture, TS and TSOR....that would be cool. Or maybe they surprise the heck out of us.....I hope it is not as predictable as I think it will be. Overture Temples TS TSOR There you go, a 70's song for the sensitive 70's Rush fans out there. ;)

I'm a sure thing". :) We also have three kids. Amazing how you life changes when you meet the right person. ;) I agree dude...when the kids come into the relationship you find joys that are straight outta heaven. the challenges are many but with the right person they can be met and navigated pretty dang well.

Plus +99 for all the great songs (and videos) you guys have posted. +1 for Terri Nunn of Berlin (I've got a little Rubik's Cube in my pants just thinking about her). +1 for Dale Bozzio of Missing Persons (not as hot, but the crazy makes up for it). Minus 1 for not mentioning Dexy's Midnight Runners and Come On Eileen yet. = 100
