  1. Hmmmm... I really don't think they're comments were rude or "assholish." Geddy made a valid point... hard rock was getting its ass kicked by disco back then. Alex was talking about vomitting over disco music, not Donna Summrs. In fact, he said she had a "fantastic" voice and was an accomplished painter. One of the biggest problems with reading text on a screen or in a magazine, is that it's hard to "feel" what they're saying. That's why we have these silly little emotion icons (that are very handy sometimes!) I think you may be taking their comments the wrong way... maybe. These guys have never ever dissed anyone... not that I've ever heard or seen anyway.

  2. LEE: This brings back memories of a terrible period of music to me. We were hardcore rockers and disco was so counter to that. The divide was stark back then between disco and rock. LIFESON: We’re not going to vomit listening to it now, as we might have back then. The arrangements of all of her songs are very well done, and her voice is fantastic. She was quite an accomplished painter as well. Let me translate: LEE: Donna Summer? Wow, this brings back memories, I wanted to bang her so badly in 1978 my balls swelled up like a couple of stepped-on tomatoes and they sagged so far down my pants I got them caught in a turnstile, it made my voice sound like I was on helium for months! LIFESON: Meh you always sounded like that! Anyway listen Mickey Mouse I DID bang her ok? You bet! In a hotel in New York! Remember that day you had that bad omelette in Jersey City on a day off and it made you puke for days? Where do you think I was??? Yeah I was all over Donna like that omelette was all over your hair! "Ohhhh I feel love, I feel love, I feel love", see no helium singing from me boyo!

  3. I would much rather that they started writing a new album than doing an R40 tour.

  4. All this talk about Rush being "polite little Canadians" with the RRHOF lately.. Doesn't mean they need to loose their honesty and integrity! Donna summer made shitty music. I'm sure she was a good person but its kinda silly to pretend you liked her music just because she's gone..

  5. I fail to see what is so bad about what they said. Rock and Disco were mortal enemies back then, they're right. And I don't think Alex was kidding about those compliments.

  7. (Just for the record) the first full-length concert Maiden video I got to see was Live After Death. I seriously got into them around that time and remember being so amped for the release of this video (and needless to say was blown away!!) Those were the days, no youtube samples, no nothing but sweet anticipation to wallow in, made it so much more special :codger:

  8. That was GREAT! I loved it! I haven't seen anything like it before, so it's nice to see something new :) Great find!

  9. I dont think the comments were degrading.... Just their thoughts. Rockers didnt really like disco back then.

  10. I'm for them all shutting the f**k up and getting on...

  11. This comment is FAR worse then anything they had to say. Totally unwarrented and angry. Please, in detail, give us some clear, concise examples to back up your claim that mainstream attention has caused Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson to become "total assholes" (aside from their venemous attack on disco)

  12. I still do not get how many bands get in the Rock & Roll hall and do not play rock music. Donna Summer was no rocker and therefore should have never been inducted. Disco was and still is trash. Sorry, but that's how it is. I am glad you mentioned the Grateful Dead. My friend loves them, I cannot understand why? I have even tried to like them with little success. There is a "Dead" radio station on satellite and I listened for a couple days straight. Trying to find this connection that does not exist for me. He loves Bad Company and I can take or leave them. I like "Yes" better than BC. He is Eric Clapton's biggest fan, but has no use for Rush. Why the divide between rock music. I hate "Southern" rock. But love most anything British. Zeppelin come to mind. Anyone have an analogy as to why this divide exists. Taste? So your friend likes Bad company, Clapton and the Dead but you like Zeppelin, Yes and Rush.. Obviously you are more complex in your musical taste and demand a little more to keep your interest.. Your friend doesn't ask as much in his music.. Southern/British doesn't matter..

  13. No surprise that there won't be an R40. Ged's been saying this for months now and we might as well accept it. Get out and see the guys this summer cuz it's gonna be a minimum of a year and a half and likely at least 2 years before they're out again IMO. And I do think they'll continue to play live well into their late 60s but it won't be like they always have with long tours and such. Look at what McCartney does as the model. He'll play here and there (and everywhere LOL....couldn't resist that song reference) kind of hit and miss and even when he does a tour proper it's like 5 days between shows. This is the model I see for Rush in the next 5-7 years.

  14. I now hate Rush because of this! I can no longer be fan of a band that gives honest answers about how they felt in the past. I will now go find a band that does nothing but lie and gives me a constant smooshy feeling inside. Rush, you have lost your smooshiness somewhere down the road! :tsk:

  15. Nope Ducky we already have multiple threads praising and bashing it. Green Thumbs only here! :)

  16. I love it. Rush has always been about trying new things and exploring. Hip hop was exploding in the 80's/90's. Its just a tiny part of a song, and I think it rocks.

  17. LIN! :hi: Flowers are interesting creatures. I love how certain species will go to sleep in winter and come back in spring. I'm thinking of getting camomile and lavender too this year. I'm gonna grow the catnip for the lil feline and put some cat grass out there for her too. :) Hi sweetie, I've always wanted lilac bushes...never had or did it. AWWW...tha't sweet what you're doing for your kitty. It's great to plant our own....much healthier and cheaper! I'll let you know more about my funny strawbearis and tomato plants (several years ago) because I have to work now... xxx okay, I planted strawbearis and I kid you not this one was huge, I didn't pick it which I should have but I figured I'd give it a few more days...duh on me. So when I went out to to get it this bird was eating it. Half of my beautiful strawbearie was gone. I was crying...I couldn't believe it! And the secret (again I kid you not) is when you have/plant tomatoe plants you know those green wormie type things that are there on them in time....take a little container/several depending on how many plants you have and fill them with beer. I swear they go in there and die. I've done it! True story and you'll have nice tomatoes. xxxx Birds love berries... At least my cat will keep them away. I've heard about those green worm things, but I'm gardening on a balcony do I dunno if I'm going to get those this high up. If I get any ill give your advice a shot to get rid of them. 2 years ago when we lived up north I grew cherry tomatoes and they were grown all inside by the window and the flavor was still amazing! I can't wait for this stoopid winter crap to go away. I DID see some flowers popping up outta the ground on my way to work today so that gives me hope that it's soon. :) I also found some recipes for organic perfume I'll post later.

  19. Let them just do what THEY want, in general. They've done more than enough for fans than any band would.

  20. Let the guys take a break, you know? I could care less about an R40 Tour. They already did that concept. Let them recharge, re-energize, and write an new album.

  21. Not sure why some people want an R40 tour. Just did the TM Tour... then, CA Tour, which is still on-going. These guys need a break... I'll gladly wait for as long as it takes to hear new Rush material sometime in the 2010s.

  23. The point for me would be to take a few pictures that I could call my own and if I am lucky enough to get at least one good one to have it framed. How cool would it be to say, I took this one when RUSH was inducted.

  24. Sorry prat, but they don't look like total assholes at all. They were just being honest. Alex and Geddy obviously didn't want to give phony answers. Didn't they wear 'Disco Sucks' t-shirts back in the day? That would be funny if someone printed photo of Geddy wearing a Disco Sucks t-shirt and under it is the quote you wanted from Geddy gushing about Donna Summers and how glad the Queen of Disco is finally in the RRRHOF. I thought Geddy said nothing at all about Ms. Summer herself and Alex's answer was mature, and gave her deserved kudos. I think you have a lot of misplaced anger, of some kind.

  25. Of course the interview is in METAL Hammer! :haz: I don't even have to argue my case anymore, everyone knows RUSH are purely METAL!

  26. I'm surprised they're not thinking R40, but that's mostly because so many people assumed it would naturally be the case. Of course, I too would MUCH rather have another new album than another tour supporting nothing, or yet another unnecessary 2nd leg. Their last 2 albums have been great, the most recent one especially. It would be amazing if they intended to build on that. I don't know if they have another one in them, but the fact that they aren't planning on another best of tour not in support of a new album is very encouraging.

  27. Does the OP LOVE AND CAN'T GET ENOUGH of every Rush song? Personally I don't as well as I don't love and gotta listen to every Donna Summer song either. I DO respect her for what she did for NYC during the 9/11 crisis, and yes I can tolerate some of her music now moreso than back then. Let's take the context of when and where this interview went down. Rolling Stone huh? hmmm and remember Geddy and Alex DO have a very dry sense of humor as well. As we used to say back in the New Wave 80's take a chill pill dude.

  29. Not likely. The other guys don't care what Alex likes. Poor fellow is probably still lobbying to get Jacob's Ladder and Lessons in there.

  39. Classy post, how do you do it. it's just my honest opinion, not that anyone else would agree with me!! So their child Sean should have lost both parents that night? Honestly? Disgusting. Okay, I stand corrected!! I wasn't even thinking of Sean when I responded to this thread. My anger was towards Yoko, not Sean, but I know he was a child who needed his mom in that great time of despair. I would never purposely wish him to suffer more than he already was. My mistake!! Sorry if I offended anyone else (IA) , I'm deeply sorry....I'm truly a very nice person.
