  5. He's actually the most open member of the band. Some fans don't have a sense of personal space or decorum, and that's why he's touchy about it. If you've read his work, he makes many mentions of pleasant encounters with fans. If you act like an idiot, then you'll feel like one later.

  9. I've had Geddy's red bass on my mind for a while now (probably because I've sat my new red bass beside the tv and keep staring at it!), so thought I'd share one of my favourite pictures of Geddy and his red bass, though there are good live ones, too! This is from the Snakes and Arrows tour book, I think. BTW, is anyone else a bit disappointed that there was no Geddy portrait in the CA tour book? There's the Geddison contraption where his portrait should be, and when I flip through the book, I'm always sad that there's no actual posed Geddy picture, as in all the other books. What were they thinking, in terms of us Geddy girls? Why in the world would we rather feast our eyes on a steampunk keyboard than on Geddy? Gah, poor decision by someone, that. Anyway, here: http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g454/GoddessMika/Rush/snakes-and-arrows-8-l_zps80693fae.jpg

  10. It was weird. I was to pick my wife up for our first date at 7:00 and we were going to catch a movie. I had been out riding my bike earlier that day and saw the most beautiful field of wildflowers. So I suggested that we drive by a look at them before the movie and we got there just as the sun was starting to set which really illuminated the flowers in the most amazing way. We talked about which movie to see and agreed that we both loved scary movies, and there really wasn’t any playing. So we went back to her apartment and watched “The Changeling” and “Ghost Story”, eating popcorn and just talking. We talked straight through the night (no funny stuff, I swear) and just laughed and laughed. So, the sun starts to come up and I’m thinking I should head out, don’t want the neighbours to talk, right? I get to the bottom of the stairs and we gave each other a hug and just looked at each other and smiled and didn’t say a word. I’m driving home, bright sun in my eyes and I think to myself, “Wow, I just met my wife”, and start laughing out loud with this big stupid smile on my face. That was nearly 24 years ago and I can tell you, I am so blessed to know that I get to begin and end each and everyday with this most amazing person. We have so much fun, still love watching scary movies and laughing like crazy and just spending hours with one another. I consider myself the most fortunate of men. There are times, when we are out and about, that I just look at her and think, “Man, one day she is going to catch on that she is wa-a-ay too good for me”. To say that I love her falls dreadfully short, as there are no words to express how I feel. Scripture says that “two become one”, if this is true, then she, most certainly, is the better part of me. I knew beyond the shadow of a doubt then and I know beyond the shadow of a doubt now and, yes, I still have that stupid smile on my face.

  12. How did I know? Well, in over 30 years, I had never felt this way about a person. I do remember one particular day. We had been together for about six months. We were on a double date, and my wife and her friend were discussing things that we guys would do for them. I was only half paying attention cuz I was driving. Well, I hear my wife's friend say, "well, Bob butters my buns". My wife then said "Jim doesn't butter my buns." I then jump in and say, "yeah, but I do put whip cream on your tits!" My wife laughed so hard. It was then that I realized that I had found someone who gets me. :)

  13. Ok, TECHNICALLY there are 107 titles on my list, but in my defense, I had a lot more originally and tried to whittle it down to 100. I got to 107 and couldn't whittle anymore. I would have called the thread Top 107 Prog Albums of the 70's, but you know, 100 just sounds better. :) I was a little liberal with my use of the word progressive, including some electronic and krautrock albums, but they're close enough... and they're still listed in progarchives! You might also notice a couple of titles were in the 60's, but I won't quibble if you won't. ;) Anyway, please comment, argue and/or post your own list (doesn't have to be that many). 16. I was driving along "in town" (as all of us country people call it) today and on my radio Tom Sawyer started playing. I was slowly pulling up to a red light and in my rear view mirror I was watching these crazy chicks who were approaching from behind. It was SO obvious what radio station they were listening to - The chick in the passenger seat was air drumming to Tom Sawyer and when the drum solos came up, she was going wild, her hair and her arms flying everywhere! By this time they were right beside me at the red light... the driver was playing air bass... the "drummer" looked over at me and yelled out her window "Rush Fuc*in' Rules"... all I do could was laugh! So, the moral of the story... if there are any air drummers anywhere near you in traffic, you'll always know if they are listening to the same classic rock station that you are.... provided that Rush in on the air. Holy shit.

  24. I'd say they were about 19 or 20. And, I'm certain that the girl air drumming is in fact a drummer. I'm a drummer, and I could tell just from the little bits that I could see in my mirrors that she was right on with her timing, drums and cymbal smashes! The best part - her hair was flying all over thew goddam place - so funny.

  32. Atlantic Records claim's that CP went platinum as well as claiming that RTB went double platinum. CP did not sell as high but had a higher debut and "Leave that thing alone" was nominated for a Grammy. So an album not selling as well means that a band lost hundreds and thousands of fans? That's silly and makes no difference to me anyway. CP is a great album and one of my favorites. If RTB went double platinum and CP platinum (I don't believe this to be true in the US), it means that about a million less people bought the album. It could be less than that, and it could be more. But 1 million is the average. I've always read that RTB was platinum and CP was gold, meaning that approx. 500k fewer people bought it. That's people voting with their wallets. Yes those are RIAA statistics, Atlantic made their own claims so I can't say which is correct. Without actual numbers everything is really speculation. Even with the RIAA estimates what is the difference? RTB could be one million and CP might be nine hundred something thousand lol. Justin Bieber probably outsells Rush 10 to 1, does that make him better? Are people really arguing about the merits of RTB vs. Counterparts based on ALBUM SALES? Yes, Roll the Bones has Dreamline, and a couple of other decent tracks, but it also has Face Up, The Big Wheel, Hersey, Neurotica and You Bet Your Life. I can't be the only one who threw up in my mouth a little at the mention of those titles. Counterparts on the other hand has... a hell of a lot of great songs, the first four especially being truly, truly excellent! Even CP's instrumental kicks RTB's instrumental square in the ass. CP is RTB with testicles fully descended.

  34. One of the series' best episodes yet. Kudos. If most of them were as good as this one, it would be on a short list to being an all-time great series. It still has a bit to show to earn that...but this is a show that's gotten better with time.

  35. Wow, ANYTHING positive to say, or only criticism? :P Other ELP albums have a LOT of great stuff on them: Tarkus, Trilogy, Brain Salad Surgery, etc., I just find them pretty inconsistent. Their first one to me is easily their most consistent. I never really got into Kansas - I have Leftoverture and I actually quite like it, but I haven't listened to it much - I need to get more of their early stuff. Spartacus was an oversight and should be on the list. In terms of Zappa, I considered it, it's just that he's only kinda sorta prog. I seriously considered Apostrophe. That and Hot Rats would be worthy contenders. And dude, sorry, but Tormato totally rocks. Criminally underrated, as is Time and a Word. I just didn't have the heart to leave out any 1970-1978 Yes from the list. So how about a list from you? Doesn't have to be as big a list. ;)
