  1. "50 Ways..." How great is Steve Gadd's drumwork on that rack? As for the lyrics, I like... She said it's really not my habit To intrude Furthermore, I hope my meaning Won't be lost or misconstrued But I'll repeat myself At the risk of being crude There must be fifty ways To leave your lover

  4. Another thing that some may forget is that Rush has gone through three tours in five years which takes a toll on anybody, especially these guys at sixty years old. If they don't tour for a couple of years that's ok with me I'll just enjoy them more when they do come.

  5. Here's my entry for today. Paul introduced this African style and sound to the world...well, to me and many others, at least. I'd never heard music like this before Paul Simon. I love the ending. :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bHeD73YYyQ

  7. Pretty much everything off of "Bridge over troubled waters". Him and Art were great together. IT's just THAT good. My mom used to listen to this endlessly and listening to it today evokes such strong memories. It brings tears to my eye's. I like pretty much all of Simons stuff.

  8. I don't live in the USA. I'm in Canada. :) He wasn't talking about you. :laughing guy: :outtahere: I'm just saying... lots of really awesome people live here in Canada too... looks like he's living in Canada. Just was making sure he didn't decide to leave this perfect country just for chicks And if it was you he wanted to meet the most, and then he get's down here and is like, "DANG!" Yes... slight problem though. I have two daughters older than Ya Big Tree... so I guess I better stick closer to home!! I'm not that young guys ... :eyeroll: Oh, I think he could have daughters older than you. Yep. 27 & 24. And, if the Ya Big Tree is older than 27, I'll eat my own shit. Or, I'll at least use it for my toothpaste. Start eating it... 29 this year

  11. Dark Side Of The Moon was the first CD I had ever bought (along with Moving Pictures and Led Zeppelin IV). This was way back in the early 80's, when The Wall was still the focus of the Pink Floyd Universe. For me, Dark Side Of The Moon is flawless. There is not one part of the album that this listener thinks could be improved. I can't say that about the other albums.

  12. We've had a rainy night and a drizzly morning. It's tapered off mostly but outside it's still cold and grey. So one of my fellow workers comes back from lunch, and another project manager who sits in the bullpen behind mine asks, "Is it still raining?" Co-worker responds, "No, but the fog is getting thicker." Cue Mara, in a gleeful near-shout, "AND LEON'S GETTING LARGER!" I never, ever think quickly enough in these situations, but this time I timed it perfectly. I am so proud of my moment of quick-wittedness. Best part - almost everyone got it and cracked up; someone remarked, "looks like I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue."

  16. I remember interviews at teh time where people were claiming Paul Simon was just another person exploiting Africans. So unfair. The brilliance of Graceland is ultimately in the unique arrangements and lyrics and Pauls distinctive plaintif vocals.

  17. Ladysmith Black Mambazo went on to a pretty high level of international success after appearing on Simon's album. I was always struck by those that criticized Simon for the wages he paid them for their performance on his record. I think the exposure they got more was more than fair compensation. As for Graceland's lyrics, how about... This is the story of how we begin to remember This is the powerful pulsing of love in the vein After the dream of falling and calling your name out These are the roots of rhythm And the roots of rhythm remain

  19. My one is named after a time machine from an episode of the original Star Trek, and the final song is named after that episode. The music is just like something created by an alien race on some distant planet and the cover artwork looks spacey too with a star trek uniform, futuristic musical instrument (which actually is used on the album). It's spacey! http://i.imgur.com/TMFue0D.jpg

  21. An unlikely entry for some here, perhaps. Mayer does this thing where he slaps the bass string with his thumb, and uses that as a background for the chords and melodies he plays on the higher strings. It's not Travis Picking, and it's not really Claw and Hammer. But it sounds damned good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygfvt0UBveY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39nb8vHQWIQ

  33. That's it for me. One of the first songs I can remember hearing on the AM radio in my parents' car and loving as a kid. Honorable mention: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uy5T6s25XK4 I remember hearing 50 Ways on the radio when I was a kid and it was still on the charts. There was always a radio on in the house. Even my parents liked that song, which I didn't realize was uncool that was until several years later when my parents became very uncool, which was several years before they became very cool again. It's tough growing up Tougher still to be a parent. For me, The Boy in the The Bubble started the flood that was Paul Simon's music in my life. Begin Graceland. Good call, Rick. My entry today is another great one from Rhymin' Simon - and inspired by TM's story with his boys. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiMIAoZNce8 awwwwww.....so glad to help out CygnusChick....today is library day for me and the fella's, or at least until noon. After lunch It's time for "the Paul Simon educational module for youngsters" once again I may have to endure Chuck E. Cheese at some point as a trade off...NBD, here in these parts of TN its certainly entertaining to see the locals

  34. Maybe they did it on purpose to say that Owen's race doesn't matter to the story. And maybe, just maybe they want us to look inside ourselves and realize the same is true for each and every one of us. Don't let your race define your journey. Don't let others tell you what you are based on the color of your skin - follow that dream and you'll never regret the journey getting there.

  36. I saw them open for Jane's Addiction a few years ago. I had to leave my seat and fuckking drink. I had to hear that shit in the bar on the monitor. I wanted to grab a few toothpicks at the bar and shove them into my bleeding ears. Hell I saw Nine Inch Cocks way back when on a Lollapalozza Tour and even then I wanted to kill myself. I am a music whore but even I can't f**k like Trent. GARBAGE. One of the worst bands in the universe. "I Want To Fuckk You Like An Animal." Really? How intellectual. What a bunch of CRAP!!!!!!! I would rather watch a shit waterfall come out of Chewbacca's hairy asshole than see Nine Grinch Snails!!!!!!!!

  38. Closest to you so far is Pittsburgh on 23 June with Marilyn Manson. I'm catching the Beacon Theatre gig in New York on 18 July...very excited! Yeah, I know. I'm just not gonna travel the three hour trip there to see him when he usually plays much closer than that. There's a good chance he'll play here again and if not there are some places in Canada I can catch him to if I want. This is Alice Cooper, whenever he announces a tour it's always more than just a handful of dates. He hits everywhere he can on most of his tour cycles. I believe there will be more shows to come.

  40. Not sure what that means but obviously some people will never understand shy personalities.. The line goes "I CAN'T pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend'".. Not "I REFUSE to pretend..." This isn't meant as a rant or anything but I can relate to being misunderstood because of shyness. It's funny how people don't understand.. But any ways, how close is Neil's planet to Cygnus?? Or Sirius for that matter?? :P It's nowhere near Sirius, Geddy and Alex do all the radio interviews!

  41. As much of a rush freak as I am, just because Alex touched a t-shirt for a few seconds and threw it into the crowd still doesn't really do it for me....my shirt is sitting in a drawer unworn, unwashed and until I sell it, it will remain there.... now, if you were going to frame it or do something really interesting with it, i could maybe see that, and I suppose if it fit you, which it doesn't for me, those in the know, would see you wearing it at future concerts, or someone who is a true rush fan might comment on it as you were walking in public somewhere.... I wouldn't want to frame it. Rush shirts should be worn, and proudly. And not that I do this for this reason, but every time I wear I wear a Rush shirt in public (last did so a few days ago on my birthday) I get someone commenting on it, which is a nice moment of shared enthusiasm. If I were lucky enough to get a rare shirt (and from the concert, and not from e-bay!) I would be wearing it proudly until it disintegrated. And the honour of getting such a shirt isn't because 'one of the Rush guys touched it!' but because of its significance as a rarity and as a token of an evening that will remembered for years. And it's kind of the situation of the thrill of winning something. ETA: And I'm not trying to say what you should or should not with your shirt... that's completely up to you! :)
