  1. Ozzy's not a "skilled singer" either. Nor is Diamond Dave. Tyler isn't. Being a good rock vocalist, and frontman, has very little to do with having a classically "good" voice. The Stones' catalog is pretty much the gold standard for rock. Jagger's done something right.

  4. I love the original Aussie versions of the first three albums (High Voltage, TNT, Deeds). I never quite understood why the US albums are so different. Leaving off "Jailbreak" for a repeat of "Problem Child"?

  5. Ok, let's see how many TRFers like this stuff. I know I do. Here's my list. (Note: I could have included more albums by Opeth and Enslaved but didn't for variety's sake.) 1. 6. I was watching some videos on youtube from the Roll the Bones tour, Presto, Counterparts, and TFE tours. What happened to the sick light set ups?? The lighting now is good, but no where near the level it was in the 90's. Why is that??? The stage set up for the roll the bones tour was insane.

  7. Ok there was some tarts dancing around, that got my interest, but not the forgettable, mediocre R & B/pop. She's got a pretty weak voice too... :boo hiss: :boo hiss: :boo hiss: :boo hiss:

  9. My wife and my kids all enjoy top 40, so I hear quite a bit of it around the house and in the car. Some of it is fine. Beyonce, however, is not my favorite performer. I think her vocal abilities are way overstated, and, I have to say, watching her dance is sometimes funny, because she looks so uncoordinated. (Mind you, I can't dance at all, but I don't get paid to do it, either). Put her voice up against the En Vogue ladies, even now, and she'd get blown away. She's attractive, but that too gets overstated IMO. Grace Potter has her beat in that area, and she plays her own music. Frankly, Jennifer Hudson's voice is better than Beyonce's. Alicia Keyes is prettier, and more talented. I can't see why they get overshadowed by Beyonce, but they do.

  10. If he wrote 'contents' them I'm. Assuming this new book will read like an encyclopedia which isn't bad I guess. I'd like to see one of the band members write a book about their history of the band.. Something packed with tour stories from the 70's and other juicy stuff! Preferably from Ged or Alex but Neil would be the first to do it..

  19. The Garden and Hope are perfect choices, I honestly would want to have those two played at my funeral. You're an awesome friend for coming on here and asking us about this. I'm sorry about your loss. It's a tough thing but he's in a much better place. I'll keep you guys in my prayers. I'm sure all God plays in heaven are Rush songs. :D

  22. I'm up for a Vancouver, Portland road trip!! I've never done this. It might be fun. I did that roadtrip in 2008 with LA and Rolzzz FUN! 8 Hour drive south to Vancouver. And then an extra 5 hours to Portland. I'm not sure if I'm down for all that driving. But I'll see when it gets closer to the day of the show That tour was a blur to me... I flew to Seattle and drove with my ladies to The Gorge and partied my ass off in 6th row centre, then woke up in the morning (somehow) and drove all the way to Clark County for the next show the next night 5th row centre then drove back to Seattle, flew out that night back to Toronto. Less than a week later I drove with a friend to Detroit for Front Row show and then back to Toronto for another show (where I met my Digital Clan pals including my current boyfriend) I'm planning a similar trip for next Spring/Summer dates... hopefully including California this time to see my other friends :)

  23. Holy cow! Love hair shots! And I'm a fan of the ESL look, with the textured-looking hair and bangs. Lot of hair, for sure, and a bit overwhelming for his face, but I think it worked pretty well! Like his pants of this era! You know, I wonder if Geddy has any inkling, any inkling at all, that there are web pages dedicated to girls waxing poetic on, of all things, his butt. I wonder if he has any idea at all...!

  24. I love the original Aussie versions of the first three albums (High Voltage, TNT, Deeds). I never quite understood why the US albums are so different. Leaving off "Jailbreak" for a repeat of "Problem Child"? Yup, I've got all the original Aussie versions and it's a damn shame that the international releases were so butchered. Problem Child doesn't even sound right on LTBR, and Jailbreak? Leaving off one of the absolute best Bon songs. Not to mention the original Dirty Deeds cover in the pool hall is a million times better than the lame motel cover. I have them all, on vinyl. LTBR is a gatefold. :)

  26. Still remains their best album. Followed by Let There Be Rock!!!! Extremely underrated and underplayed. Dog Eat Dog, Go Down, Bad Boy Boogie, Overdose... You said it! All great songs, and Rosie, HAABPTB and the title track? My fave AC/DC album by far. Oh, and it doesn't sound like any of their other ones either, raw as hell production!

  31. Bono has got to be up near the top of the list, although, I'm not a huge fan anymore... What about David Bowie? PETER GABRIEL when he was with Genesis... no question, he was the best lead singer / showman of all time. Yes, even better than Mercury... not by much, but he was better. Jagger was always a great showman, but I truly believe he was and still is one of the least skilled singers in the business. He was "pretty good" until about '75. (Again, TBR dives behind the couch to avoid getting his testicals kicked by angry Stones fans!)

  33. No mention of Peter Gabriel's tenure in Genesis? Doesn't get any better than this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M58wE8GTGp4 And I agree with those who mentioned Daltrey, Jagger, and Mercury.

  34. The reworked songs already released DO sound better and the work by others without original recordings are also a vast improvement so I have to disagree that they can't make it better. I only heard the reworked versions of the two songs on Retrospective 3 once or twice, but unfortunately for me they didn't improve anything. It only magnified the weaknesses of the original material. I'm glad people enjoy VT, but for me it's the old you can't polish a turd phenomena here. If they ever did release a remaster, remix or whatever, I don't know if I'd buy it, or even try to find a copy to listen to online... maybe I would. Every time I tried to re-listen to this album or a fan re-mix (and there were many attempts) to get into it, it was always such an unpleasant experience that I'd be very reticent to try it again, even if they somehow were able to clean up the hot soupy clipped painful to listen to mix. I honestly think they should leave it alone. It'd be like them going and trying to re-record or remix Face Up or Neurotica or something. Some material just doesn't work and it's time to move on. Thankfully, Rush did move on with the often great S&A and the mostly outstanding CA. It's good that they did what they needed to do in 2002 to get it back together so they could move on to bigger and better things, but the album should have been scrapped and never released. It's unfortunate that it was (though many or most here would disagree), but that can't be undone. Just leave it alone and let it lie as it is. They've got a hell of a lot of great albums to focus on without trying to fix something that just didn't work. It's fine that you think it's a turd, but many of us don't. Those that don't just want better production on a great album. I'd much rather see that then the endless remastering of already well mastered albums.

  39. The songs mentioned here are all great suggestions. Hope would be very nice - good call, Lerxster. Paired with The Garden, they would be a lovely tribute. Tonally, both would be suitable on such a sad day in such a sad setting, I think. I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

  47. A relatively common observation. I got into them in 1980, so I only got into the Bon Scott stuff after he had passed and my first exposure to the band was Back in Black. I listened to Live at River Plate at the gym this morning and then Let There Be Rock: The Movie soundtrack on the train. No question that with Brian the band is more one dimensional. It works for me, but the early stuff does have a little more variety in "feel."
