  1. I'm not sure if I'm like any of them myself, besides sharing a birthday with Geddy? I think I'd be more of an Alex due to his sense of humor with a little Geddy on the side for his refined side :D

  2. Yesterday, I was walking to work, which takes about 25 minutes, which is usually enough time for about four Rush songs to pop up (randomly) on my ipod. I decided that I would play a little game, and that the four (or however many) songs would be like a little prediction for the New Year - using the context of the songs to forsee what the coming year would bring. The first song was 'Something for Nothing', one that I really enjoy the messge of. Urging to go after things we want instead of waiting for life to pass us by and maybe throw us a bone... I like the carpe diem-ness. So, this year, I should get up off my butt and put in motion the things I want to do, such as learn songs on my bass and build that retaining wall in my garden. Oh, and maybe find a better job! :P Second was 'The Enemy Within'. Whoo. So, I need to confront my inner fears, deal with what could hold me back from moving forward. Not be afraid of... myself, and fears that manifest themselves. Then 'Lakeside Park'. Ah, a favourite nostalgia song. Looking back and remembering the good times. While 'Something for Nothing' is more about moving forward, 'Lakeside Park' is more about resting and remembering. That seems a good balance. And being around "willows in the breeze" sounds pretty darn good right now.... And last, 'Second Nature'. I'm very interested in the more 'natural' side of humanity, as opposed to the drive for more! and bigger is better! that is prevalent in a materialistic world. I don't like that the natural world is often overlooked (and sometimes beaten into submission) in the face for furthering our society, and I appreciate the message of this song. I think it's a reminder for me to follow my instincts in this way - enjoy nature and the naturally slower pace that allows me to breathe. So, I thought these songs (whether prescient or not!) are an interesting bunch, if I'm reading into them. I mean, my little game would have been wavering if something like 'In the Mood' or 'Ceiling Unlimited' came up. (How would I explain the relevance of 'CU'?) If anyone's interested, why not try your own experiment? Play the Rush catalog on random, and see if you can read into the first four or so songs that come up!

  4. I have the latest album! I notice Christopher Lee works his metal magic with these guys as an occasional band member! :haz: In the Dawn of Victory, the narration is embarrassing.. They need Christopher Lee to do all their narrations, he's a bad ass. Chaos to Eternity is a great album, unless you're talking about Ascending Into Infinity (by Rhapsody 2) which I have yet to hear! http://en.wikipedia....hapsody_of_Fire http://en.wikipedia....illi's_Rhapsody Yeah Ascending to Infinity is the one I have! (it could appear in my top 50 of 2012 too)

  8. A little of Alex and Neil. I am a ponderer of life and its problems like Neil. And I love to read. I have Alex's sense of humor. And...Geddy? If I could choose, I would choose to be like him. He has poise, he is gracious, he's got his head screwed on straight (how he managed to do this is beyond me...I would have lost mine decades ago) and he is intelligent.

  11. Hi, I am here today to promote one of my all-time favorite albums, andquestionably most favorite power metal album ever... A brief description of power metal since I know a sum of you hate the genre or are unaware of it: it's basically heavy metal with cleaner, more melody based vocals, fast paced drumming and guitar strumming (can get generic), a good amount of keyboard use, and positive lyrics.. When negative, it's usually sad rather than angry, and common power metal topics are on fantasy or love.. I don't even see the genre as metal at all personally. Power Metal is my favorite genre next to Progressive Rock, it gives off this amazing, adventurous vibe... Epic music. Anyways, onto this album... I discovered it a year back, or maybe even two years back at this point, and from front to back - it's great.. Impressive guitar solos, and some drum & bass playing that stand out at times (which is very atypical in power metal), but the vocals steal the show, it may just be unlike anything you've ever heard before. That, or I'm just crazy and for whatever reason have a personal attachment to this album.. So if you're interested, get this album.. Here's what I think are 3 songs that sum up the album well if you're just curious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0FBDaP3mrQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB6wXrv1OAw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1LxZkQoNZY http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebirth_%28Angra_album%29 http://images.uulyrics.com/cover/a/angra/album-rebirth.jpg

  12. It's one thing to do the two and a half minute Temples every night, but it's another thing for him to have to sing that whole song ever show for a whole tour. At this point Geddy knows he needs to do whatever he can to keep his voice as strong as possible since he doesn't have many tours left now and he's lost so much of the range he used to have years ago. The fans should want Geddy to be doing what he can to make sure his voice can last a few more tours and not doing something like this that will tear it apart during each show. You know how great Geddy's voice sounded this tour? It was the best it's been in at least ten years. Well, you can say goodbye to that if they play all of 2112 every show. I'm just being logical here. Which is the reason I've been pushing for an "All Instrumentals Tour!" but that's a whole other thread. :codger: Sorry, but I think an all-instrumentals tour is completely out of the question. Rush fans would revolt without Tom Sawyer (as much as I don't like that song), Subdivisions, and The Spirit of Radio. They would be lucky if they got more that 5,000 tickets sold. Totally agree. Geds voice, melodies and Neils lyrics are as intregal to Rush as any riff they have ever written. I think they will still play the staples as they are written. And All instrumental Tour means they play all their instrumentals not that all songs are played as instrumentals. Kinda like below: (Instrumentals are highlighted) Set 1: R40 Instrumedley (Finding My Way, By-Tor & the Snowdog, The Necromancer, A Passage to Bangkok, Cygnux X-1, Hemispheres (Prelude), Freewill) Limelight (First with Words) Caravan (With Words) Cut to the Chase (With Words) Where's my Thing? (With Drum solo#1) Leave that Thing Alone? Main Monkey Business Limbo Show Dont Tell (With Words) Clockwork Angels (With Words) 2112 (Overture/Temples(With Words)/Finale) Set 2: Archives Instrumedly: (What You're Doing/ In the Mood/ Working Man/Anthem/Fly By Night/ Beneath, Between and Behind/Bastile Day/Didacts and Narpits (Drum Solo #2)/ Bastile Day Reprise) Far Cry New World Man (With Words) Distant Early Warning (With Words) Mal-Nar Test For Echo (With Words) Driven (With Words and Geddy Bass Solo) Red Barchetta (With Words) Headlong Flight (With Words) YYZ (Drum Solo #3) Alex Solo/ The Trees (With Words) La Villa Strangiato (Entire) Xanadu (Entire) (With Words) Encore: Subdivsions (with Words) Tom Saywer (With Words) The Spirit of Radio (With Words) Encore 2: Closer to the Heart (With Words and Extended Jam) :rush: :haz: :rush:

  13. RUSH are metal because they have crunching heavy guitar riffs, high octane screaming vocals, scary bubbling basslines that crawl into your brain like a super-fast spider, a nutcase heavy drummer who spouts anti-religious/sci fi/steampunk lyrics, densely produced sound qualities incorporating a thick all-enveloping atmosphere of controlled amplified distortion, a man in the band who constantly wears Ozzy Osbourne/Gary Oldman as Dracula shades and hippy long hair, dirty jeans, and drinks wine like a delusional hobo and a man who eats cake like a cannibal eats feet!

  15. Well, I was working at the restaurant last night, and we were short-staffed (everyone wanted New Years Eve off, for some strange reason...), so I was waitressing and managing at the same time. It got quite busy, and the people we had working were not the 'elite' crew, as these were the ones that had priority in having the day off. Anyway, it was a gong show - everything was going wrong. I was dealing with serving too many tables, whilst trying to oversee everything, and the cooks were inexperienced and food was cold and too many steaks were getting overcooked. Horrible. I had a record seven irate people that insisted on speaking to the manager (me) that I had to do my best to placate in the middle of everything. But then, once things started quieting down a bit, and I'd just spoken to the last unhappy diner of the bunch, Rush's 'Limelight' came on the sound system. In spite of my stress and frustration, I actually had to smile, and my mood lifted a bit. I like that Rush can have that magical effect - take me to a happier place! Adding to the plus side, I actually managed to get out of there before midnight (11:42, to be exact) and rushed off to be with my friends just in time for the count-down. Funny how we both had 'Limelight', eh? though I guess it just happens to be one of their most popular songs...! And the Sea of Trees sounds very pretty!

  18. Looking forward to the "R40 Overture". The "R30 Overture" was so much fun to play. If they take a break, good for them. My gut tells me there is still a few albums left in the band. They just appear to have so much fun doing what they are doing....and why not.

  19. For an R40 I would think it would be a good idea to start where they left off from R30. Play a medly of songs from MP to Presto then a song from Roll the Bones. I would suggest: The Camera Eye (The intro) Digital Man Kid Gloves Middletown Dreams Lock and Key Superconductor then play Dreamline I would also suggest an alternative route of playing the most popular songs off each album, but that would take out so many songs I would want to hear in full. I also excluded the songs from fear as I really think the fear series should be played.

  20. I like the idea of women Rush fans having a special title, but I'm not a big fan of 'Geddycorns'... I dunnot, it just kinda sounds a little... corny. (But that's a corny thing to say, I know!) I like the idea behind it, but really, there are quite a number of us showing up at Rush concerts now. And not just to check out the cute guy on bass or whatever, but to actually enjoy the music, which is, to put it simply, awesome. We're a growing group, I fear - the bathroom lines to the womens' at concerts are getting longer. :(

  21. Here's my take.... R40 is gonna happen....i don't even think they need one new song.... i met a lot of fans during the current tour who were pretty upset with the lack of the all-time classics.... so they bring out the R40 tour, promote that all the all time favorites will be played....i.e. freewill, hemispheres material, xanadu, etc....and that brings out all the 50 year olds who grew up on rush in the late 70's....they will fill arenas with this kind of tour, nobody will leave moaning and it will be a complete success.... then, they relax a while and prepare for the next album, which i think will be the last....(but you never know) the album is released in 2016 or so.....they tour 2016-2017.....and perhaps ride into the sunset.....i mean, they could still be doing this when they are 70 years old but somehow i think they go out on top.... keep in mind about their touring.....yes, its not easy, life on the road is a struggle...but they are doing it in some sort of luxury....they are not preparing meals and doing dishes in an RV, they have first class treatment all the time....(well, except for neil, but that's his choice) they also had 10 day breaks between legs of this past fall tour and can go home and sleep in their own beds, catch up with their wives and family and recharge...they are not going three months straight....they also did not play back to back nights all fall... its hardly the touring they did back in the day when they said they would do 11 days in a row, one day off, nine more days, one day off.... ged and alex are flying everywhere....neil is doing his bmw thing..... i see them taking advantage of their popularity now, with the RRHOF induction of 2013, they will still be flying high for an R40 tour, more casual fans will come out....they will play a complete retrospective, everybody will be happy and then they focus on resting and the final chapters of their career....

  22. Why do men find it so inconceivable that women would like Rush, and not just because they find Geddy, Neil, and Alex attractive? They're an incredible band, and from what I gather, they're pretty respectful of women. As a female fan, it's refreshing not to have sexist lyrics or ideology constantly thrown at you.

  23. Ray Daniels has never met a dollar that he didn't want to pocket... thus there will be a R40 tour, even if it's just in North America and only 30-45 dates from Mid Spring through early Fall of '14.

  24. Yeah same here...heard 2112 front row on the T4E tour....amazing. While I would die and go to heaven seeing Hemipsheres complete it is never going to happen. Ever. So tune down and play 2112 again in full.....why not?

  28. Would really like to see and hear Fly By Night and I do believe Ged can still sing it. My opinion however is that I have about a 20% chance of that happening. The fact that it was in the VW commercial has raised that from about a 5% chance IMO.

  29. I've got a cool idea...what about at least one song from every album? SET ONE R40 Overture: Driven -- Ghost Rider -- The Main Monkey Business -- Headlong Flight -- 2112: Grand Finale Tom Sawyer (Moving Pictures) Finding My Way (Rush) Fly By Night (Fly By Night) Bastille Day (Caress of Steel) 2112: Overture/The Temples of Syrinx (2112) Closer to the Heart (A Farewell to Kings) Xanadu (A Farewell to Kings) The Trees (Hemispheres) Freewill (Permanent Waves) YYZ (Moving Pictures) SET TWO Limelight (Moving Pictures) Subdivisions (Signals) Losing It (Signals) --> I've seen a lot of people say that Rush would never play this now because of its theme, but if Geddy can play "Red Sector A" and Neil Red Sector A (Grace Under Pressure) can play "The Pass," then I think they can most certainly pull "Losing It" out of the vault! The Big Money (Power Windows) Mystic Rhythms (Power Windows) Force Ten (Hold Your Fire) The Pass (Presto) Roll the Bones (Roll the Bones) Leave That Thing Alone (Counterparts) —Drum Solo-- Resist (acoustic) (Test for Echo) Test for Echo (Test for Echo) One Little Victory (Vapor Trails) ENCORE Far Cry (Snakes & Arrows) Caravan (Clockwork Angels) The Spirit of Radio (Permanent Waves)

  31. You obviously haven't heard Aussie music {vomit.jpg}. Years ago a local music store owner (and huge Rush fan) had a petition going for Rush to tour for ASOH. Hey now, I LOVE Men at Work. Really? You couldn't have gone with AC-DC? Yeah I was gonna list them, but they just ain't my cup of tea. I enjoyed them when I was a teenager and before I got hit with the RUSH virus. Seriously, they just make me wanna drink beer and moon the man!!! Moon away dude! Moon Away! :moon: :moon: :moon: :moon: :moon: Its like the last show of the Rockettes up there!
