If you're at a live Rush show, where's the best seat in the house??

And I do mean Rush specifically! - For other bands, you may want a different kind of seat, and that's fine!

I'm going off of a pretty standard "sports arena sectioned off for a rock show" arrangement, as can be seen in this diagram (from rateyourseats.com)

(Stage in black, everything behind it closed, most fan seats in blue, maybe the suites are open to those with extra cash)

And no cop-out super hilarious "The best seat is MY HOUSE lol!" answers either

The touring days may sadly be done, but we can still reminisce and discuss!

I was looking through some old threads here on TRF, and I noticed that people have mentioned two RTB tour shows being recorded: one in Auburn Hills in 1991, and one in Irvine in 1992.

Could someone provide some info on if (1) anyone knows of anybody who is in possession of the Auburn Hills 1991 show, and if so, why hasn't it been released to the public, and (2) provide some information about the Irvine show? I haven't been able to find much about the Irvine one, could someone fill me in about it?

	Thanks!

Also does anyone else know anything about the pro-shot show from Toronto in 1994 that they used clips from in some documentaries and award ceremonies?

	Hi, everyone

I know this topic shows up from time to time, but I wanted to ask if there's anyone here who attended the January 10th, 1976 show at Massey Hall in Toronto. I'm doing a paper on The Fountain Of Lamneth and this particular show, and I wanted to know if there's anyone here that attended who could provide some info about what songs/how many were played and what order?

I realize that I'm asking for some people to remember things from almost 50 years ago, but I just wanted to know.

	Thanks!

Imagine that Geddy and Alex recorded a new Rush album without Neil, with another drummer.

What about a Las Vegas residence (as U2 in the video), with guest stars on stage on drums and other instruments?

Today is the 10th anniversary of the only show I saw on the Clockwork Angels tour- 2 July 2013, in Cincinnati. And I’ve never found a live recording of it, anywhere.

Ahem, ahem. Please and thank you in advance, if you have any leads.

Both Queen and Kiss have a number of videos of their '70s concerts (at least 4-5 each in good/great conditions)... while Rush has only Passaic 1976, I think.

	How can it be?

Thank you in advance for your replies!

On this day in 1983, 3 college buddies and myself set out from Cullowhee, NC towards Charlotte in a 1967 Rambler to see Rush, some of us for the first time. We stopped off in my hometown and picked up my then still in high school little brother. Tickets were $12.50. I'm pretty sure that we bought them in advance but its been a long time.

Our excitement built as we waited in the parking lot outside the Coliseum (the old one on Independence Blvd.) We could hear sound check and could not wait to get inside. It was "festival seating" then and when the venue doors opened, there was quite the crush to get in. I had a brief sense of fear as we were pushed along, remembering that The Who concert tragedy in Cincinnati had only been about 3 1/2 years prior. Things settled down the further we moved down the concourse and we took seats in the lower level about where mid-court would have been for a basketball game.

Jon Butcher Axis was the opening act and we all concurred that he was a sort of Jimi Hendrix wannabe. My little brother was actually familiar with him and would later turn me on to his 1984 album, Stare At The Sun.

Well, the show was great. We all freaked out when Geddy sang "one likes to believe in the freedom of baseball" . Being poor starving college kids, not knowing where our next beer might come from, I don't think any of us actually bought anything at the show. All I have to show for it is my ticket stub and some articles downloaded from The Charlotte Observer years later. My brother remembers buying a t-shirt that he says lasted until he was stationed at Hurlburt Field, Fla. (USAF). The only camera I had then was a Nikon 35 mm that I wasn't about to lug around all day and night so there are no photos. I did download the concert bootleg a few years ago off of Dime. It is quite muffled and isn't quite complete but its better than nothing at all and it took me back to that evening the first time I listened to it.

Sadly I've lost touch with two of these friends. I did purchase some SIgnals 40th anniversary t-shirts a couple of weeks ago and sent one each to the remaining friend and my brother. This morning I wear it proudly and remember.

	Hello everybody!

I'm reading the book Wandering the face of the earth.

Since 2002, on VT, R30 and S&A tours, the attendance % was extremely poor, with often 40-60% of capacity.

I understand VT, after the 5 years hiatus, but after?

Why were they planning big venues when the results are often poor?

	Thanks

I have relatives in Kincardine ON who have maintained for years that Rush played the high school there in the early 70s, but I was never able to find evidence of such a gig, until now!

Apparently the then student who booked the band posted this on Facebook recently...

Well, Alex basically confirmed in the interview in snowdog2112's thread that they're considering busting out a few tracks never heard live before.

QUOTE (Alex)

We`ve been throwing about set lists for the last couple of weeks and the length of the set is creeping up to over 4 hours so we`ll have to reign it in and fine tune it. There`s also a couple that we haven`t played live before that we`re thinking about doing. There`s quite a few in contention for the final set list.

Say they'll play three previously unheard songs. Which songs would you love to hear? Also, what do you think they WILL play?

I really want to hear Everyday Glory, Open Secrets, and Vapor Trail. My guess is that they actually will play Vapor Trail and Cut to the Chase. Would love to know your set up / rigs, etc... I'm a gear dork so details are great. I'll start off and try to be brief:

Guitars:

PRS CE 24 with Fralin Unbucker picks up (the coil tap in middle position really gets that chimey Alex GUP, PW and HYF tones)

Gibson Les Paul Classic with Fralin PAFs

Amp:

Splawn 50W EL34 (power section only) with Weber 12" Legacy 12F

Board:

Wilson mini Q wah (for thomas organ crybaby setting)

Bondi 2026 compressor (always on)

HX Stomp (for Maestro PS1A phaser, Polyphonic, Octave, EQ, trichorus, MXR Dist+, TC 2290, Echoplex, Space Echo)

Retrosonic Flanger (EM clone)

Timmy V3 (boost for clean / dirt channels)

Boss CH-1 (analog Taiwan blue label)

CMATMods custom dual chorus (for light chorus sounds)

RJM Mastermind PBC6X

Kinglsey Page ODS (boost)

Kinglsey Maiden D (clean tube pre)

Kingley Constable (marshall plexi pre)

In a nutshell, I run wah and compressor into the HX stomp. I put the PBC 6X switcher into the effects loop of the HX in order to put the pedals in those loops in different orders . The main thing is that I use the Kingsley tube preamps as my "amps". I go out of HX into the FX return of my amp. If I don't do that then I engage my Mooer Radar power/cab sim pedal and run the signal instead into my audio interface > Logic Pro.

It's a pretty versatile rig for Alex stuff. My biggest hang ups are nailing down the right gains / effects Alex used in the varying decades. For example...70s stuff until permanent waves I use the Marhsall Plexi pre with boosts, phaser, echoplex and bingo.

Then for Hemispheres and on I use the Kignsley Maiden D (which is a dumble type pre...but I put in some brightness into the EQ blocks on HX to make it more Hiwatt sounding) I use the PRS and add in The Timmy, MXR, and Page boost to do the gain. I'll toggle between choruses for thicker and lighter chorus.

Anyway, any info and rig sharing would be great.

Geddy & Alex reuniting?

Hey everyone!

First all I've been hovering around in the background for several years, and just recently decided to join.

So to the point!

A guy at my work said he heard recently on some sort of music news, that Geddy & Alex are reuniting under a different band name and steering in a different direction from Rush music, and their looking for a drummer! And, his drums sound good, better than the nasty DW drums he has been using for a while now.

Will Neil Peart's bank account render this subforum relevant again one day?

It's the only hope of another Rush show, as we know.

Whether it's progressive overspending, more fancy cars, wanting to secure mo' money for the wife+kid, or trying to start the endowed Neil Peart Scholarship For Musicians Who Can't Philosophy Good, And Want To Learn How To Do Other Stuff Good, Too, something would get him behind the kit

Discuss.

My first Rush show- 25 years ago today

It's difficult for me to fathom that my very first Rush show has now been exactly 25 years ago. The guys in the band were still in their 30s back then- several years younger than I am right now. ( :o ).

Thanks to Citizen of the World (a member on this forum), I have a recording of the show, which I never knew for sure even existed, until it was given to me. March 6th, 1990, at Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati. It's not the best recording in the world, but considering what audience recording technology was like in arena rock shows at the dawn of the 1990s...it really sounds pretty good.

I was a junior in high school, just about a month short of my 17th birthday, and I didn't have anyone to go with me, so I just went alone. And I had an absolute blast- it was the most amazing thing to go see this band that even back then, I had been listening to for ten years, and never seen live.

And here I am, 25 years later- gearing up for another Rush tour.

I missed out on a lot of years- after 1994, I didn't see Rush again until 2013. And after that long dry spell was finally broken, I promised myself that I would never miss another Rush tour, for however long they continue to play for us.

I'm reminded of a lyric from another band's song-

"Shake it up, now, Sugaree

I'll meet you at the jubilee

And if that jubilee don't come,

Maybe I'll meet you on the run..."

I urge everybody with the means and the opportunity to get out there and see Rush this year. We all deserve to be there!
