I remember their being quite a bit of conversation regarding whether the band played the necromancer live in concert and the existence of a recording of it.

This was a few years back, so perhaps that argument had been resolved way back then.

But not for me and I saw this posted on Billy Alexander’s page a couple days ago:

I admit I'm a bit late in the game in collecting the live Rush albums on cd (my format of choice). I've been trying to go in chronological order (for the most part- I do have the S&A live and the GUP tour live album) and Different Stages is the latest one I received. I bought it used on amazon. Anyway, here's the deal. The three cd set came in a cardboard sleeve. However, there was an extra third sleeve that was stand alone that popped out. I find it hard to believe that when this live album first came out they made it that way. However, the little sleeve (with a cd in it) won''t fit anywhere else and I can understand it being that way. If you try to stuff it then it will probably tear the packaging. There's also a small bump on the front (probably from the front cd protruding through). The seller doesn't accept returns (how convenient). So were they initially sold this way when they were new or is there something else going on? Rush in Rio will be next for me and I hope that one is different than this one.

I am extremely excited to announce that my "RUSH FOR SOLO PIANO" YouTube project (on my Flowerbed Music channel) is soon to be available as a limited edition VINYL LP. I am also very proud that HUGH SYME, the legendary artist of all Rush's album covers since 1975's "Caress Of Steel", has produced utterly stunning artwork for the front and back covers as well as the labels.

The man who has enabled this to happen is STEVE BROWN, the amazing guitarist with Rush tribute band, 'Moving Pictures' and founder of RUSHFest Convention in Scotland. He has already produced several releases (not least the multi-volume 'Songs For Neil' compilation series) whose proceeds have all gone to Funding Neuro (the registered charity which raises funds for developing cures and treatments of neurological diseases and cancers). Any Rush fan will obviously understand the motivation for that.

I'm honoured to have been approached and invited by Steve to be the next release in the catalogue (with of course all proceeds from my album going to Funding Neuro too).

So, RUSH FOR SOLO PIANO The Album... is on it way.
All the tracks have been fully remastered by Steve and sound magnificent to my ears. Hugh's art is all done. Next up, hopefully, it all goes off to print and press! I'll provide an update as soon as the release date starts to look imminent! Watch this space!!

Unless I'm missing a song, I believe Geddy played guitar on only 2 Rush songs (live, at least) - Xanadu and Passage To Bangkok. I've never seen footage of him playing the double neck on Bangkok...but for Xanadu he wears that huge heavy thing for 10 minutes just to do that little part at the end of the song.

Is it worth it? Couldn't the counter melody he plays be covered by a bass part? I've just never listened to either of those songs and thought, oh wow, they're really adding another texture to this song that doesn't exist in other Rush songs.

Maybe I've just been watching Angine de Poitrine videos for too long today...but it just kinda seems like a waste of shoulder muscles to me...

What day would they have played? New Wave Day with Oingo Boingo, A Flock of Seagulls, Men At Work and The Clash? Rock Day with U2, Quarterflash, Stevie Nicks, and David Bowie? Or Heavy Metal day with Ozzy, Judas Priest, Scorpions, and Van Halen?

Personally, I would have seen them playing Heavy Metal Day. Sure, by Signals they'd made their first major foray into doing New Wave, but they had more than enough metal cred at that point because of songs like Working Man, 2112, Xanadu, Spirit Of Radio, and Tom Sawyer that they'd be a bit too heavy for the INXS and Oingo Boingo crowds. Even though Moving Pictures turned them into arena rock gods pretty much, the lineup during Rock Day was a bit too much on the Top 40 mainstream rock side and Rush were just a little bit much of outsiders to be a part of that whole clique.

To me, a prime example of this is Grand Designs. A song thats full of both intricate keyboard parts and bass lines, often done simultaneously. When you have prominent keyboard parts along with a prominent bass guitar, Ged really couldn't "Red Sector A" it by just having no bass and all keys, hence why that song has so much Milli Vanilli'd keyboards when they did it in a live setting. A lot of songs from Presto and Roll The Bones are like that as well, where keyboards and bass guitar are given equal spotlight time in a song.

As much as some Rush fans might view this new quartet lineup as a sacrilege, I think it's going to be pretty interesting if they pull out some Presto/RTB songs or synth era material where you have a seperate keyboard player that can replicate all those parts while Ged focuses solely on bass.

Who or What got you into the band?

How did everyone find the band? My dad introduced me when I was about 7 years old and I've never stopped listening since. I didn't become a huge fan until after I saw them live and the band retired. That was when I was around 16 years old. I didn't really appreciate the band as much as I do now. My last show I was only 13. That was during R40. I still get annoyed that I missed the Clockwork Angels Tour, but I was so young at the time, and my dad only got tickets from a friend for my older brother and himself.

As an avid collector of all things Rush, I recently stumbled upon something that I feel needs to be shared. In my ongoing hunt for some obscure piece of Rush history, I was given the opportunity to acquire an old school TDK cassette tape, simply labeled RUSH "Rough Mixes" July 1, 1989 along with a few other band related artifacts. The fact that it had a Le Studio label really caught my interest. The date on the cassette and the tracks listed, albeit out of order, made it obvious it was the album Presto. The owner of this tape was not a fan of the band, just a guy that flipped houses. Turns out he discovered the tape in the old residence of one of Alex's since deceased long time guitar techs. After striking a deal for about a dozen itineraries from the Power Windows and Grace Under Pressure tours, a super cool SRO patch and a bunch of random other documents from Le Studio, I decided to take a chance on the cassette. Was it blank? Was I scammed?

When the casette arrived, poorly packed in just a bubble mailer, I realized I had no device readily available to actually play it! Off to the garage to find my Fisher dual cassette CD Boombox with detachable speakers. I found a different cassette, pressed play, and my boombox still worked. Sigh of relief. Now what about this 35 year old TDK SA90 I just got. I didn't expect much, and cautiously pressed play, and right out of the gate, Show Don't Tell, was somewhat different! I'm playing a 35 year old cassette in a 30 year old cassette player... and it sounds AMAZING! Literal chills. I'm sitting there listening to Rough Mix versions of songs very few people have ever had the opportunity to hear..... until now. Needless to say, the original tape has since been backed up I am honored to share this piece of Rush history and I hope you all enjoy it. Please share it.
Special thanks to Danny de Hoyos for all his efforts and assistance in putting this all together on YouTube.

Hearing those Presto demos made me put the record on for the first time in a long while. I listen to a few of those songs in a playlist (The Pass and Available Light) but haven't spun it start to finish in I don't know how long. And something occurred to me about the drums on War Paint.

Neil plays essentially the same pattern for verse 1 and verse 2...but on verse 1 he is keeping time on the hi-hat...and playing accents on the high toms. On the 2nd verse, he is keeping time on the ride, and playing the same (or very similar) accents on the low/floor toms. It struck me that the first verse is about a girl...and the second is about a boy. I can't help but think he thought about the pitch choices accordingly. I think that's cool.

	Hi everyone,

I LOVE the 40th anniversary CD sets by Sean Magee, I think they have as much depth as the original vinyls. This is great as it means I don't have to worry about overplay ha ha!!

I think while the Grace Under Pressure 40th set is up in the air, I might try and buy a few of the later albums digitally to save waiting until 2028 or later for those albums to be released as 40th CD sets.

I've got a few questions which I hope someone can answer:

1 - Is Sean Magee the only engineer involved in the 2015 remasters? So if a sales listing has someone else mentioned as mastering the album, that won't be a 2015 remaster, is that correct? Is it a good rule of thumb to say that if a listing has a release date or a copyright date of 2015, it will be by Sean Magee?

2 - Can someone tell me if these sales listings are Sean's remasters or not please?:

On the Power Windows link it mentions Bob Ludwig as mastering it, but I thought he only did the 1997 CD remasters?

3 - Has Sean remastered everything in the Discography out of interest? I've seen he's remastered up until Test For Echo, but I'm not sure about the last 3 albums?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide :)
