QUESTION:

I'm new to TRF and using a message board. What do I do?

ANSWER:

Well first off, welcome to TRF! If you're a Rush fan, be assured you've found a special place. Enjoy!! bekloppt.gif

More importantly, it's a good idea to take some time and read through the Help topics. The user posted image button is found at the top of just about every screen of TRF. Click on the button in this paragraph, or the button at the top of the screen and get excellent descriptions of the various features and functions. Some of the FAQs in this thread may touch upon these features, but you'll get more information directly from Help.

QUESTION:

Why is my name always listed first at the bottom of the TRF main page?

ANSWER:

user posted image

The list of active members online can be viewed near the bottom of the main TRF screen. The list is shown in order from most recent action to last. Your name will almost always appear first on your screen since you just performed the most recent action. The member who walked away from their computer and went somewhere to explode will probably be shown last. HEY MUSTARD DEATH!!! GET BACK HERE!!!

Note: After a half-hour of no action, the member's name will be dropped from the list - not to be added back on until another action is performed.

QUESTION:

What do the Last Click, and Member Name links do on the TRF main page?

ANSWER:

user posted image

Just below the active members list on the TRF main page, you'll see two links: Last Click, and Member Name. Want to see what your fellow TRFers are up to? Click on these links to get a bird's eye view of what's happening.

The Last Click link will display a list of all active members in order of most recent action. Expect to see your name at the top of that list. Next to each member's name will be a column showing the status of that member, whether it be viewing a topic, posting, searching, using the Private Messenger, etc. It will also show the time the action occurred. This is the column in which the list is sorted.

The Member Name link will show the same list - just sorted by member name in alpha-numeric order. If 1-0-0-1-0-0-1 is with us, expect to see him at the top of the list.

TRF SHORTCUT: At the far right of each member's name, a user posted image button can be clicked to open the TRF Private Messenger and compose a message to that member. The member's name will automatically be populated in the To: box.

Adding colors to the names was such a popular modification, that other boards adopted it. Make no mistake - it started here. cool.gif

QUESTION:

What does the * beside a member's group mean?

user posted image

ANSWER:

When viewing threads, or through the member directory, you may notice an asterisk (*) next to many members names. These are indicators of whom has access to the political forum (The Sense O'Clock News). To gain access to that forum, please refer to the following:

QUESTION:

How does one get a member title?

ANSWER:

You'll notice that certain members have titles just below their avatar. Most folks, like myself, spent much time searching through their profile options to find where to include a title. Well, you can't. These babies are earned based on your style of posting. Our admins grant titles to members. So if you want a title - keep posting.

QUESTION:

What content will be considered unacceptable in TRF posts?

ANSWER:

One of the aspects that makes TRF so appealing for all is the family and community friendly atmostphere that is constantly present. The greatest contributors to this atmosphere are the people who post here, as they do so in a manner that's not vulgar for the sake of being vulgar. It's been a self-propelled attitude that roams the virtual hallways here, and that just ROCKS!!

Sure, many times it just feels good to include expletives that are found on the FCC's 7 dirty word list. There are generally no problems with that as long as the words used are not used ad nauseum, directed at anyone personally, or used to insult or inflict hurt. You'll notice that a word filter has been built in to keep words like f**k from being completely displayed. Go ahead. Give it a try. laugh.gif

Examples: This thread f***ing rocks!!! -- is ok. F**k you, or you're a sh*thead.... ISN'T. Further, posting pictures containing nudity or are too sexually explicit will be removed as will any statement or image that is racist. This also includes links to other sites containing same. Posts or threads of this nature will not be acceptable here, and of course the same applies to avatars and signatures.

Another thing we like to discourage in avatars and sigs is political content. We have a separate politics forum (The Sense O'Clock News) because we like to keep political discussion isolated from the rest of the board, and political cartoons, slogans, etc. in you sig, profile or avatar defeats that. If you have a passion for politics, great! Just keep it confined to the politics forum.

Look, these are general guidelines and not concrete laws to go looking for loopholes. We as members, mods, and admins expect everyone to use common sense, good judgment, and courtesy for others.

Thanks! trink39.gif Now move the f**k along. laugh.gif tongue.gif
