For me it is the solo in "The Pass" gets me every time. Very haunting.

'The Pass' is an awesome solo. I have to go with 'Marathon' though.

I heard that song live along with 'The Pass' on the Presto tour for the first time. I was 16 then.

'Marathon' still is the most memorable after 20 years.

Dude! Time flies.

Emotion Detecor. He WAILS on that solo, without it being mindless shredding. Very haunting, indeed.

Limelight. Not only his best solo, but also his most haunting. It sounds so lonely and desolate.

yes.gif One Alex's finest IMO. The bass and drums also add to the mood real well.

Agree'd. The solo itself is immense, but the bass and drums are spectacular and compliment it PERFECTLY. One of Geddy's best bass moments, I might say.

Isnt the topic about haunting guitar solos? Thats a great solo, but haunting isnt what comes to mind when I hear that.

That's what I was thinking too. "La Villa," "Emotion Detector" and "Marathon," though among Alex's most intense and expressive solos, don't strike me as "haunting" at all.

Now we're talking. The OP stated another good example with "The Pass." Others I would describe as haunting (and great) are:

Dreamline. It's simple, but it says so much. Almost like a distant voice calling.
