Dude, Independence Day is a great movie...

WELCOME TO ERFF!

I disagree. There are a lot of things I hate about the movie....

-when Will Smith & Goldblum uploaded the computer virus on the mother ship. I can only suspend disbelief so much

-that cheesy ass speech by the president right before the final battle..."....Today is our Independence Day!!!"

-once in a blue moon Will Smith is tolerable or good. Here he's his usual crappy cliche self...(while flying the spacecraft), "I have GOT TO get me one of these!!!"...or that scene where he's still attached to his parachute and talking smack to the ufo that he managed to take down

-more cliche...the Jewish dad played by Judd Hirsch. I like Judd but that character he played..geez

What I like about the flick...

The special effects. This is a popcorn fluff movie and I know it. But 'no', it's not 'great'. Actually, I'm going to give away this dvd today so that someone else can appreciate it

Ditto to all of the above, but the one that clinches it for me is that they expect us to believe that a drunk-ass idiot can be sobered up and taught to fly a cutting-edge jet fighter in less than an hour. Riiiiiiight.

yeah, that was awful and i completely agree. but i didn't even bother saying that in my post because i already made a bunch of other points why i disliked the movie. i'm sure if i thought harder i could fill an entire page worth in this thread yes.gif laugh.gif

I agree on all of those points, and Randy Quaid's character was so over the top. The whole movie was so damn cheesy.

Where do people with huge collections store them? I had a big bookcase that I kept mine in, but even that wouldn't hold them when it got over 300. Now they're stacked in four columns that are all taller than me over in the corner of my bedroom. Luckily they're pretty stable or I'd be afraid of them collapsing and burying me alive. laugh.gif

Mine are stored in the bottom three shelves of a large hutch. I have recently run out of room and am thinking of ordering one of those special armoires built just for DVD storage.

Thanks, man. I appreciate that. It looks like you're well on your way to having a nice collection yourself.

Wow, you have 'Okie Noodling'! I've thought about checking it out, a friend of mine said it's the strangest documentary he's ever seen. Plus, the Flaming Lips did the soundtrack, so that sounds cool. Do you recommend it?

Castaway

Since no one else has nit-picked your collection Jack, I will. But I'm only going to choose these 2. biggrin.gif

Alien Vs. Predator...

It started out well with a good amount of sci-fi and action. Cool special effects, make-up, costumes. But it didn't end well with the 'team-up' and the 'branding' of the main character. That scene where that main character & one of e.t.'s are running together was one of the worst scenes in the whole thing.

castaway...

Don't know if you forgot to put the space in between but it's Cast Away not 'castaway' (a person that's shipwrecked of course). It's a clever title I think that many people don't realize. And it's a much deeper movie than Tom talking to a volleyball (which I'm sure you think too) . I like this movie a lot.

That's it for now. I may come back later to rip into some of your other movies. pokey.gif

P.S. Yeah, your collection is quite good with a bunch of quality flicks trink39.gif
