Marciniak, one of the heroes for Scotland tonight. :gumby:

Once he had a look at the VAR screen, yes. He nearly disallowed a perfectly good goal just because it was very dangerous and the defender was kicked in the head :tsk:

I never understood that rule. It's the defender that's putting himself in a position to have his head clanged. The forward is only going after the ball.

That and the fact the defender seemed overly keen to appear to have been kicked (but not to the degree he was hampered from continuing in any way). I agree, it`s an easy "out" for a defender who is out of position - throw my head in the mixer and see if I get some sympathy.

*Mind you, at least that game was exciting. This England game is accountancy masquerading as football.

She really loved making decisions and pointing a lot. In another life, what a traffic cop she could have been :bitchslap:

I think there was some nagging involved as well.

Well, I wouldn't dream of impuning her professional abilities but there was definitely a vibe that she really enjoyed making decisions and standing perfectly still whilst everyone watched her elaborately officious arm gestures. I mean, why else would anyone become a ref but for those reasons?

I've noticed that whenever a woman referees a game, players hesitate to argue with her. They don't want to come across as ungentlemanly or sexist. If only these gals could withstand the rigors of matches every three to seven days, it would add to the beauty of football and I could maybe bear the constant close-ups of players forcing goobers out of their noses.

You know how sometimes on TV or in film someone will have an actual TV on their shoulders with a different face on the screen? If FIFA could find a way for referees to have images of the player`s mother on the screen I think that would work. They wouldn`t do all that spitting and swearing and backchat.

I always wondered why spitting in football and hockey is rampant, while in volleyball and handball, it's non-existent. Same species, right? I guess it has to do with the type of pitch-court-field you're dealing with, but it also shows that self-restraint is possible.

Football creates an excess of saliva, everyone knows that. Some Tennis players need to expel theirs, but not at Wimbledon. Oh, and it also happened to Tiger, he had to spit a lot. Snooker and Darts? Not at all. I think there`s money to be made in the Sports Spittoon business nonetheless. Edited by IbanezJem

Did the USA really just lose to freakin' Panama?

They have a lot of pent up Noriega emotion  But then, Panama did make the 2018 World Cup. On the other hand they were the worst team in it.

Just a precis of the events @ Man Utd -

Glazers buy the club in a leveraged buy out. Very little of their own funds are used and the repayments come from the club and the huge income it makes, not the Glazers. Skip forward a few years, and they buy Ronaldo. Share price leaps to its highest price since 2018 and the Glazers sell their personal shares at a huge profit, whilst the club makes no money from this and the repayments continue to come from the club.

?

And what of the Newcastle controversy?

Just what I needed... another club making it even harder to get into the Top 6.

Seriously, the ship has sailed on moral probity in English football. The Saudi government human rights record is not exactly aligned with the FIFA mission statement of equality and opportunity to all, is it? When half of their population is treated as second class. No... I`m not impressed, but it`s not worse than Man City (or PSG). The FA and EPL are responsible for allowing the owner of Newcastle to be, in effect, MBS. Compared with the current government effectively being bankrolled by Russian businessman who have no interest in the wellbeing of the UK population, nobody should be too shocked by anything anymore :sigh:

None of the above should discourage them from buying Kane for £190m though

One amusing thing about this is that Steve Bruce has a three-year rolling contract. Everyday he wakes up he has three years pay guaranteed if he is sacked. Knowing that personally he wouldn`t sack him and that he was selling the club, this is basically a gift from Mike Ashley in his contract to Steve Bruce and a little two-fingered gesture at the owners who have the manager they would never want and didn`t appoint but have to pay £7m to sack, even though Newcastle are second bottom and playing really badly
