Since this is actually a thread about college basketball, let's watch the last few seconds of an amazing game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX03IGvYBUQ

One of the best games in tournament history. The two teams' stat lines were nearly identical, with UCLA having a slight edge in 3-point shooting and, remarkably, rebounding. Great individual performances too, with Juzang, Jaquez, Campbell for the Bruins and Suggs, Kispert, Ayayi and Timme for Gonzaga.

Can't wait for the Baylor-Gonzaga showdown.

UCLA played out of their mind and gave us an all time great game.

I'm cheering for the Zags big time, I'm not a fan of Scott Drew.

Why?

Ah............not good. Happy to have any and all rooting for the Zags tonight.

I'm very hesitant to say this as you never know what goes on out of the spotlight, but one of the things I most appreciate about this historic run by Gonzaga under Few is the apparently complete and utter lack of any untoward behavior as it concerns recruiting, player treatment, etc. He is the son of a minister so I assume he kept the values he was taught growing up.

The other thing I admire even more is the utter lack of "ego out of control" his players simply don't possess. His teams share the ball and the credit at a level remarkably absent in sports in the 21st century. I think he demands that 100%.

My dad and uncle had Valpo season tickets about 15 years who when Scott's dad Homer ran that program to a fair degree of success. Homer seemed to have the humility and joy you'd like to see in a coach so the story about his son's program was somewhat hard to believe.

But with everything that has gone on with the Baylor programs in football and basketball, a record as bad as you'll find, it wasn't all THAT hard to believe.

I'm watching the final quarter of yesterday's women's tournament and what a game it is/was! Arizona goes on a 10-2 run to get things tight at 50-51, and it goes back and forth with little scoring up to 53-54 with 35 seconds left. Arizona plays lockdown defense to force the St a.c Ford shot clock violation. 6.1 seconds left for an Arizona winning shot...

Off the time out Arizona inbounds to McDonald who ends up dribbling it out t the top of the of the arc, against a triple team, while her teammates stand around. She heaves a prayer at the buzzer, but it's not close. Disappointing that the coach didn't set something better up, something with some penetration.

I wonder sometimes if players take some of that on themselves or it's the 100% the coach who says player xx takes the final shot? In the UCLA game, Juzang was the same way. It's pretty obvious that he's the best UCLA player on the floor but the other team is almost certainly going to expect that he shoots so why not drive and pass out to someone who is open for an easier shot unless the Juzang defender falls down or gets screened?

Juzang created an open shot and should have pulled up for the jumper.

The Arizona situation was a total team break down in terms of being ready to respond when four defenders swarm the ball. If you watch, you see the defense suck up to the ball. Weak side is wide open for a layup.

Rooting for the Zags, mostly because of my Big 12 rivalry hate towards Baylor. Iowa State may be absolute garbage lately but in the past Baylor has been so much trouble.

Another one rooting for Gonzaga here. Had some good friends from Spokane, and -- of course -- it's the site of the first Led Zeppelin bootleg, so there's that.

On the flipside, knew some real a**holes from Baylor . . .

Go Zags!

........it's the site of the first Led Zeppelin bootleg.......

Yeah I learned this a few years back. Was recorded at Kennedy Pavilion which is the old basketball arena from before The Kennel was built and a place I played in several times. It seemed a little dark to be honest.

Well, based on the sound of the bootleg, its acoustics weren't all that great, either!

Has Gonzaga's confidence been shaken, or are they affirmed in their destiny?

Should be a good game between the two best teams all year. Wouldn't want to get either way though if I had to I'd go with the Zags, based on either a) Kempton thinks they're about 3-5 it's better last time I looked or b ) the totally anecdotal and not logical premise that each team will have one good and one bad game per weekend.

Yeah it was kind of barnlike so no surprise. That boot iirc is from '68, well before my parents let me go to concerts as I was 12 at the time. I did get to see Zep in '77 but man would I like to have caught them VERY early on there and then.

Hard to say about their confidence. I mean that is the $64,000 question I suppose. I truly hope laughedatbytime is right about each team having one good and one bad game per weekend though. :)

Too bad. This is shaping up to be a dull game.

It looks bad now, but if a team can come back from a 3-0 series defict, the Zags aren't dead yet.

That game was over when it was 9-0. It was obvious Gonzaga wasn't gonna do shit against this team. Baylor had 16, yes fukking 16 more FG attempts in the first half than Gonzaga did. That's what turning the ball over 8 times and giving up 9 offensive rebounds in a half will do for you.

Terribly and incredibly disappointing.

Maybe Few will decide he needs to start stressing playing defense cuz this team played little all year.

What game were you watching? Baylor came out with 100% effort, dominated as much as you can against a team like Zaga, ran out of steam towards the end of the first half when Zaga finally woke up. The second half was a slug fest from hell with both teams leaving everything on the floor. I get some people don't like a defensive oriented game but too damn bad. I loved every minute.

It was obvious that Zaga had not seen D like this in any game perhaps for a couple of years. Every pass, every move, every dribble and every shot was challenged and they were simply not ready for it. By the time they tried to adapt, it was too late. And Baylor's offence was very potent, hitting from the outside and taking the high percentage paint points as well. This was a full spectrum domination complete with plenty of losers limps coming from Zaga who were constantly needing butt rubs and what not.

It's not that it was a defensive oriented game. It's that Baylor jumped out to a comfortable lead and were never (while I was watching) in jeopardy of losing that lead. If one team goes up by 10 in the first 5 minutes of a game, but the two teams play a completely even game from that point on, to me it's boring. I love a pitcher's duel, and I love high scoring shootouts. As long as it's close.

At the risk of sounding like the sour grapes guy, I find it interestingly weak(ly criminal) that someone comes in spouting about their (supposed) team after the fact. 14 pages and nary a peep and then "his team" wins and it's trash talking time. I think if I'd avoided coming in after the beatdown of my team (and yes, it was a beatdown) I wouldn't have a leg to stand on here but that wasn't the case as I was here minutes after the game ended.

But hey weak(ly criminal) enjoy. The better team won.
