    • Monty Python's Flying Circus
    • Fawlty Towers

It's somewhat difficult to compare these -

On one side you have the mighty Python - 45 sketch style episodes, films, LP's, books etc. Wildly inventive, irreverent, very funny mostly and a huge body of work.

On the other side you have Fawlty - 12 sit-com style episodes, all funny and incredibly well written and performed.

Both shows very good but Python has to get the vote.

I have consumed an unearthly amount of lines from both shows, but sheer weight of memorable material gives Python the win. My parents weren`t always a nightmare - they did make sure I knew both shows very well at a young age.

Carol Cleveland beats Connie Booth too

I'm sure that happens from time to time in the Castle Anthrax. That wicked bad naughty Zoot :whip:

Have you watched the episode of The Avengers that Carol Cleveland was in?

It's the same episode where Emma Peel is dressed as the Queen of Sin... so good stuff all around :D

I confess that I had a thing for a leather-clad Honor Blackman as Cathy Gale when it comes to The Avengers. I know most people have a Diana Rigg thing going on :whipgirl: Edited by IbanezJem

Very different kinds of shows, but it's Python.

Are there really only twelve episodes of Fawlty Towers?

I imagine your observation is that there are more episodes of a US sitcom that is cancelled and considered appalling, or twice as many for one that just makes it through one season? A strange thing indeed. Standard fare here to give you 3hrs for an entire series, and then make you wait about four years for another. Maybe we pay writers too well!

While I do indeed have a big Diana Rigg thing going on  I also really love Honor Blackman... Linda Thorson too... and Joanna Lumley, while were at it.

I have all the Avengers and New Avengers on DVD. Love 'em all

Fawlty but because of Manuel!

The episode were he is talking to the moose head mount is brilliant!

I definitely use Basil's lines in that episode. If performing a task and interrupted nothing hits the spot like "I'm doing it now, you stupid woman!".

I did know the "seasons" are short, but somehow it seemed like FT was always on at my MeMe's house for years . . . maybe it was just the same episodes over and over. I'd have guessed something like 40 episodes, based on level of cultural presence, roughly measured.
