23 members have voted

  1. 1. Who do prefer, Sting or Steven Wilson (the person and their solo career)?

  2. 2. Which of the Wilson/Sting bands do you like the most?

  3. 3. Which Sting/Wilson drummer is better?

    • Stewart Copeland - drummer from The Police
    • Gavin Harrison - drummer from Porcupine Tree

I put this question to Rod earlier and I thought it might be a good poll since there's a few parallels with their careers, although one is much more famous and successful in terms of record sales, but both started in a rock band then abandoned it for a solo career.

Odd pairing of bands. I voted the full Porcupine Tree line without hesitation, but it was really closer than that. The Police have been in my musical life for much longer and probably have been more an influence on me as a result, but current tastes prevail in a poll taken in the now.

With the Police, I've listened to, been familiar, and liked them more including Sting as a solo artist. Edited by Derek19

Police all the way. I'll get to Porcupine Tree when I feel like killing myself.

Your loss, besides, Morrissey is the music for that.

It would be a loss if I dismissed them completely. But I gave them a fair shot, and have three of their albums. Not a band I like, as much as I tried.

There’s nothing wrong in that.

The last question was tough.

Gavin is truly incredible - I saw him play with Crimson, and it blew my mind. He is a fantastic musician.

Copeland though - drumming is propulsive and original. He would have no chance in a drum battle with Gavin, but he knows how to arrange a great song. I don't think Gavin is capable of holding back and letting a good song take hold.

Copeland also has written and performed his owns songs - plays guitar, sings. He writes and arranges music for film sound tracks and classical orchestras. Copeland's interests lie with MUSIC in general. Not so sure about Gavin, who seems content in the drummer-shredder space, playing with accomplished jazzers.

If I had a band - I think Copeland would be my pick.

Does Steven Wilson have one of these?

NP should've had one of these!

And hopefully it would look less vampiric than this one, lol.

I was tempted to vote sting for dune but I liked wilson's raven who refused to queef record. police and copeland for the others

harrison is "better" and I've seen him w/ KC twice, a band I definitely think beats the pigs. still, copeland is just too unique to deny. pop prog is hard to pull off

That may be true but to me alot of the police lyrics are bleak and or depressing.

SW needs more music like permanating!

In terms of musical genius and sonic master, its SW by a mile. His live sound is crazy good. His studio work as well

His client list speaks for itself imo

That's a fair shake for sure. I am usually a one and done if I am not stoked.
