So a couple years ago I made a thread to list 120 prog albums and promised that I would put together a vote....

HERE'S THE VOTE!

You may vote for up to 11 albums in each group, but no more!

Holy cow I just finished making the poll and I have no idea how people are going to choose only 11. This is all just stacked.

Notable omission from the original list from the original thread: Jethro Tull - Aqualung. One of my favorites too so I don't know how it got missed.

That list is so macho and dizzying that it’s like looking at hieroglyphics!

Truly.

Strangely enough I was able to vote without too terribly much trouble. I guess 11 is a decent number.

Quite difficult this - some of them I had to omit .... great albums but just not all time great!

Also a couple of options I would not have considered as Prog so I ignored them.

But al in all an enjoyable exercise and a reminder of some fantastic albums!

I've picked, and chosen eleven c.ds, and albums each in the three set rows of them.

A fun topic, but the term 'progressive' casts a net so wide it seems to have caught a lot of stray fish that don't belong.

And a lot of albums somehow escaped.

But I'm impressed with the selections!

honestly, given the extremely high number of hair metal loving, prog-hating dads, I say we remove rush, dream theater, kansas, and queensryche. I commend those groups for bringing the ideas of genesis and crimson to night ranger's audience, however

Great to see Chris Squire and Todd Rundgren on the lists.

Jon Anderson's Olias of Sunhillow is missing though.

No it’s not! Look again.

As clarification (not that it'll stop anyone from mentioning omissions) this list was compiled not by me but by TRF as a whole in another thread from 2018. If you're favorites aren't herald you were on the board in late 2018, you did in fact have a chance.

That's karma for all the head hurting your polls have caused me! :poke:

Honestly I'm impressed how quickly so many people voted. I looked at this list and thought to myself, "this has got to be one of the hardest big polls I've ever seen on TRF."

In what way is “Hold Your Fire” a Progressive Rock album?

In the "it's an album by a band that had other progressive rock albums" way. I think that's the associative property of Rock genre-ism?

By that logic David Bowie's Low is a glam rock album!
