I swear people only dislike S&A because of the vocals... better vocals than the other 2000s albums :rage:

Is that really why people hate hate Snakes so much? I had no idea

I love "Snakes." 'We Hold On" is incredible. Wish they played that one live.

I love "Roll The Bones." "Test For Echo" and "Vapor Trails" are my top two stinkers.

Lol no I have no problem with the vocals. For me the songwriting on SnA is just really forgettable at times and even sub-par. Only Far Cry really strikes me as a great songwriting accomplishment for the band. Maybe The Way The Wind Blows on a good day.

Armor And Sword? The Larger Bowl? Faithless? Good News First?

Armor And Sword gets boring. The Larger Bowl I can't remember how it goes off the top of my head. Faithless I truly dislike and makes my bottom 5 Rush songs easy. Good News First is sub-par.

For me, the vocals are one thing - the worst thing. But then the songs are plodding, as if I’m walking knee deep in a swamp.

On a 1-4 star scale...

Far Cry: 2 stars...the best of the 2 star songs

A/S: 2

WTA: 2

TLB: 2

Spindrift: 1

TMMB: 3

Hope: 2

Faithless: 1

Bravest Face: 1

GNN: 2

MalNar: 3

We Hold On: 2

Average: 1.76 stars

Some of those 2s are generous simply because they’re not as unlistenable as the 1s.

Snakes & Arrows is incredibly overhated.

....while you also say that Xanadu is overrated.

Uh huh.

well at least it's not confusing to say it, because Xanadu is one of the most popular songs on here.

And I see Snakes & Arrows hated by bunch on here.

You seem so surprised. Presto and Bones are hated by a bunch on here too. So what?

Why are other’s opinions so hard for you to accept? Nobody goes nuts when you rip Presto.

The answer is definitely RTB by the way. Not worthless, but nothing I would say is wholeheartedly great, plus a bonus of a side two along through such annoying numbers as Heresy, Neurotica, and You Bet Your Life. Ghost Of A Chance isn't even that good either.

Dreamline is great, and Bravado is incredibly great.

There's a reason the boys put those two as tracks 1 and 2.

As the resident Presto defender...

...Imma tell some of you where you can stick it.

Yes, it's pop-rock contemporary 90s sound.

Yes, it needs more bass.

BUT

The songwriting was tight as hell and Ged's chest voice was good.

They keys were balanced, for once, with Alex's guitar.

A few of the songs are not just above average, but excellent.

Show Don't Tell (which belongs on MP, if you listen closely), The Pass, Presto, Available Light.

Personally, I really enjoy Scars and Hand Over Fist too, but most don't.

That is all.

I love how Neil starts out Armor And Sword with the drum pattern and killer china boy crashes!!

I think being a drummer makes me think differently about what albums and songs I love more than others.

I will go back to "Red Lenses" again as an example. Most people here hate that song. It's one of my favorite because of the drumming.

VT drumming bores me! Oh and RIP Freddie and he is a Jazz Legend but selfishly I really wish Neill didn't try to reinvent his playing. It's really strange to me.

I love playing to every RUSH album through "Counterparts."

Then Neil changes his style and I get bored!!

I'm surprised T4E only had one vote so far.

Me too.

What did you think of Moving Pictures, AFTK and :rush: getting a vote in this poll??

I understand the first RUSH record. Perhaps some Rush fans can't stand that record because there is no Neil. Too raw? Too Zep? I love the record.

Moving Pictures? I don't get it, but perhaps the Rush fan thinks that is their most commercial album made. OVERPLAYED! LOL! That's for you Pat.

A Farewell To Kings boggles my mind!!! Perhaps the fan is sick of "Closer To The Heart" and the weak track "Madrigal?"

I know AFTK is your favorite Duck. What the Fuckk?

I don't get it either. I don't get any of them. No way is Presto or Shakes & Arrows or T4E better than any of those three albums and I don't care what excuse they have.

No excuse, just an observation and commentary on the songwriting and execution of the album.

I like most all the songs in the first half. As much as I rag on the album as a whole it's still Rush and I still find a lot to like. Bravado took until Neil's passing t grow on me, as I never understood the wording of the chorus (I don't know how, it's pretty simple actually) and that added to Geddy's scratchy vocals in the first verse just made it not work for me for a long time. Where's My Thing and the title track I really enjoy, but I do think the production keeps them away from "great" status for me. Dreamline comes close as well, but again with the production sapping a lot of life out of it (and it's a bit of a rehash or DEW with fewer synths...). Face Up is also fun but clearly not great. Once we get to the second half things fall right off of a cliff.

Same. What doesn't work about Roll The Bones works quite well on Presto. Snappy, energetic tunes to match the poppy, elastic production.
