The answer is definitely RTB by the way. Not worthless, but nothing I would say is wholeheartedly great, plus a bonus of a side two along through such annoying numbers as Heresy, Neurotica, and You Bet Your Life. Ghost Of A Chance isn't even that good either.

None of the albums are worthless to me...but a couple of them are trying to be :P

Neurotica and YBYL are on my top 10 Dislike list.

Ghost of a Chance nearly sinks in quicksand if it weren’t for Lifeson’s solo.

Neurotica has a really good guitar solo though. It's fierce!

That's like saying a day old, completely melted, hot, and smelly ice cream sunday still has chocolate in it. Of course it does, but I'm not going to eat it!

Treeduck is going to devour that AND his own webbed fingers if they get in the way! It’s just exotica.

It’s not enough to save it. It’s on my list!

The thing about Roll the Bones it's kind of like RUSH's AOR album, like their stab at being Journey. That might a reason right there to hate it, I kind of like that aspect actually, but there's bad things too, bad juju like the Roll the Bones rap, and the Rupert Hine production (though it's better than the eggbox production of Presto), Heresy and the whole cold war repetitive babble, all those wasted years and all those wasted minutes listening to it! Then you have You Bet Your Life with it's dance floor pseudo-new wave opening riff and the other rap anarchistreactionaryrunningdogrevisionist  etc etc.

It's hysteria

when you're near

when you get that feeling (get that feeling)

when you start believing (start believing)

I can't remember if those are the exact right words or not actually, but their better than Neurotica.

I guess you could call it that...I always found it more like their stab at being Huey Lewis And The News, if only to prove it isn't so hip to be square. :16ton:

There are good bits to find on all releases .... however some of them are more scarce that others!

Personally I struggle the most with Presto - sterile production and some bland songwriting. A close second is Test For Echo.

Snakes has the early lead.

Yeah, gotta go with Snakes. T4E, HYF and Presto received some consideration, but each of those albums have a few good songs that still hold up. Only the two instrumentals on Snakes get consistent repeat listens from me.

Someone voted for A Farewell to Kings!

I actually don't mind RTB (apart from the rapping bit!!). As treeduck says, Hine's production on it is way better than his miserable effort on Presto. Mediocre but not a total turkey. Edited by zepphead

Just popping in to make sure I don't need to use my Ambassador card.

Presto sounds worse in a general sense, but that production style might have been more damaging to the songs on Roll the Bones. The RtB tunes they chose for their setlists sounded much, much stronger in concert than they did on the album. It didn't make as much difference with the soft songs on Presto.

I don't accept the contention that one of the albums is worthless, but the worst album they released is the eponymous debut, by far.

Unquestionably the weakest lyrically, and by far the least interesting musically.

If it was all they had ever done I doubt I'd own it. That said, the musical chops are clearly there, and some of the songs while lyrically forgettable, really do rock and are at least fun. It's not a bad album. But it's not remotely a 'Rush' album in the sense that it may as well have been a completely different band.

The "worthless" bit is really just hype for the thread. :smoke:

I knew it was just hyperbole, I was just making sure people understood I still think it's an ok album since I was going to rip it apart.

I loved the wording!

I'm also surprised I'm alone in my vote.

But I guess there's no disappointment that comes with a first album, But after they set high expectations the disappointments factor in. The debut wasn't disappointing, it was promising.

Still the worst album.

Interesting. Just remembering what Bravest Face sounds like feels like someone's snipping my sack with a bolt cutter.

Snakes & Arrows is incredibly overhated.

....while you also say that Xanadu is overrated.

Uh huh.

well at least it's not confusing to say it, because Xanadu is one of the most popular songs on here.

And I see Snakes & Arrows hated by bunch on here.

Goose doesn't like Xanadu, so it's possible he dislikes the entire album.

Isn't that so, Goose? ;)
