Countdown and The Body Electric are on here?! What? How? Why?

Even Take A Friend written by teen Geddy isn’t bad for what it is.

Lots of people dislike Countdown and Body Electric for their lyrics

they don't like "excitement so thick you could cut it with a knife" or the "1 0 0 1 0 0 1" (uh oh the admin is coming :outtahere: :fuckwithadmin: )

I question your perspective on “lots of people” and “everyone” :P

TRF, reddit, youtube comments, etc.

Okay. But here, one of your “everyone dislikes this band” is winning the poll:

Why isn't Nobodys Hero in this list?

Buttock-clenchingly embarrassing ....

And Anagram (For Mongo), too. In fact, any poll featuring the words "Rush" and "bad" that does not include Anagram is pretty much null and void.

That was gonna be my post. I love Presto but that song can take off. Lyrically it's easily Neil's worst. I don't come to Rush for word games. If I want to hear clever wordplay I go to hip-hop.

Also yeah a number of the songs on this list I quite enjoy from a lyrical perspective:

Take A Friend is just good advice from Mr. Lee

The Necromancer and Fountain are excellent bits of storytelling. The clunkier parts of them come down to unrefined musical transitions.

The Trees, Countdown, and The Body Electric are actually some of my favorite Neil lyrics. His imagery in the latter two especially is vivid and arresting.

I Think I'm Going Bald, Rivendell, Tai Shan, and War Paint from a lyrical standpoint are perfectly acceptable in my book. Maybe Neil's a bit over par here, but his par is much lower than most anyone else's. War Paint and I Think I'm Going Bald especially have some very thoughtful moments.

The worst song on Presto lyrically is probably "Scars"

They're some of the best, imo.

Presto had some good lyrics tho...

Show Don't Tell, Chain Lightning, The Pass, Presto, Red Tide

Countdown and The Body Electric are on here?! What? How? Why?

Body Electric's music makes the song, the lyrics are a bit forced but it fits in well with the other songs on GUP. Countdown is just a fan boy letter to the space program, it's not going to be fancy. I just enjoy the feelings it evokes as I remember so many mornings getting up to watch the Gemini launches. The song is an homage to geeks, love the banter from mission control too. When Space X took off, I was listening to a program on NPR and they played Countdown as they signed off. A guest said that all the engineers and other workers (even some astronaunts I am told) love the song. So that's good enough for me. :notworthy:

Quite lots of people who don't like the lyrics for Countdown and Body Electric.

Countdown: "excitement so thick you can cut it with a knife"

TBE: 1-0- *cough cough* I mean the chorus

Countdown: truly poetic imagery

TBE: I, Robot

Mind you, these are both high compliments.
