2020 MLB Season Thread! "Damn Yankees?" Cheating Astros Red Sox? Nats Repeat? Oakland's Young Pitching?

I hope they get something worked out. I read the plan was to play 80 (Goose's link says 82) games, basically all in division to cut down on travel. For most teams, I guess, that's twenty games against each other team? Not much variety, but at least it's baseball. Every game a grudge match!

I liked what author Jared Diamond (Germs, Guns, and Steel; How Civilizations Collapse) said: "If there isn't any baseball, the American people will know it's because the billionaires and millionaires couldn't agree."

I heard it's three divisions of ten, with five teams per division from each league, though the reckless CNN didn't mention it.

I'm on the fence though, at least if what I've heard about the universal DH is true. Baseball is better tha no baseball but NL baseball is better than AL baseball.

MLB owners approve plan to start season in July, reports say

Major League Baseball (MLB) owners have finalized a plan that may allow the 2020 season to start on Fourth of July weekend, according to multiple outlets, including the New York Times and ESPN.

The season, which was set to start on March 26, was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. MLB owners and league management have agreed upon an 82-game regular season,... according to the reports.

Still need MLBPA approval, and their first reaction has not been good.

There is no way the strongest union in America will agree to any cuts to their per game salaries, even with empty stadiums.

Unions for millionaires, Karl Marx would be thrilled.

No way bud! I get the purist factor in the NL with pitchers batting. But in the modern age where everything is faster and bigger, keep your pitcher safe and get him out of the strike zone!!!!

Do you really think I want to watch Dave Stewart bat for the Oakland A's if there was no DH in the AL?

FUCKK THAT!

Give me big Dave Parker or Don Baylor instead.

NL lovers I respect, but give me a break man.

Lay down a bunt? Pinch hit? Cool, baseball is like chess. I get it.

But give me David Ortiz, Edgar Martinez, Paul Molitor or Frank Thomas any day over some frigging pitcher. WEAK!!!

AMERICAN LEAGUE AND THE OAKLAND A'S FOREVER!

Why stop there? Most catchers can't hit for shit either? And there are still light hitting shortstops. And why deprive Mets fans of Juan Lageres's outstanding outfield defense just because he can't hit?

Go all the way, platoon baseball!

You're a numbers guy. How does the mean batting average for NL pitchers compare to that of every other position?

I'll take my answer off the air.

Why draw the line by position and not by player?

Yankees rule. Your team sucks. It's all over

The New York Yankees are currently like the San Jose Sharks. They will always make the playoffs and then fail. LOL!

Except for the last 3 years they've been eliminated by teams that were cheating at the time. I'm quite certain they'd have beaten the Dodgers at least once and they would have destroyed the Nats.

Good point.

Honestly, I am a little bit, yes!

I think the baseball season is way too long anyway, so 60 games will keep me from getting bored -- it's all set-up and then playoffs!

I guess the billionaires bullied the millionaires into submission, finally.

BASEBALL IS BACK! 60 game season! Are you excited? Hmmmmmmm......

Not that excited. A 60 game season in a sport like baseball won't be too likely to determine the best team.

then theres crap like the DH in the NL, and starting extra innings with a runner on second. f**k that.

Sorry buddy, I'm an AL guy I love the DH but yes, they shouldn't have the DH ever in the NL. Lame. Startring a runner on second base in extras is a joke. I agree. "FUKK THAT!"

Which is greater, you're hatred of the DH or your hatred of apostrophes?

Hatred of the incorrect use of homonyms. :)

In Major League Baseball, with a 162 game season, and a postseason, it is usually the same length as an 82 game season, and postseason, and playoffs in the National Hockey League, which is eight months. Right now, I'm not sure what to think of a 60 game Major League Baseball season. At how it is, will remain to be seen. It's a shame the main reason was money, and not safety.

On top of that, inter league needs to come back to just June. It was more exciting before the games were spread. It’s now just two games at Chavez Ravine and two at Angel Stadium instead of 3 of each for the 5 freeway series and I hate that.

Happy Bobby Bonilla day!

Some pretty funny talk on ESPN today. Bonilla made more money today than Patrick Mahomes got paid for last year?

Even though the entire scenario concerns me, I am really looking forward to watching MLB again. FWIW, the rule changes will be a proverbial breath of fresh air. IMO, baseball has needed a reboot for a while and I see this quasi-season as a mulligan to reinvigorate the game for all of the diehard fans and hopefully the players also. Media and baseball purists might not like the idea. Too bad.

Give it a go!

Go Angels!

So who is watching tonight?? Yankees vs. Nationals FTW !! Followed by Giants- Dodgers! Normally I don't watch the Yankees much, but I do like good pitching and Scherzer vs. Gerrit Cole (who had some questionable years when he was with the Pirates) looks like a good game! Followed by Clayton Kershaw and Johnny Cueto; I'll try to stay up to watch that one as well!

I'm so disappointed that the Blue Jays are not getting to have Pittsburgh's PNC Park as their home field. :( It would have meant more jobs and work for everyone involved with the stadium. It sounded like it was a done deal until our governor got involved. Covid numbers in Allegheny County are high, not trying to be political, but if they are trying to follow protocols, the Blue Jays are more in danger from Allegheny County than the county in danger from the Blue Jays. Sigh.
