There is a new interview with Alex. He was on WFAN this morning on a golf show and Blabbermouth.net has hit most of it here, but there is more in the live interview; Alex is interesting as always! At the bottom of their page is a button to listen to the entire interview, it starts at the 31:00 minute mark.

"Alex Lifeson was a guest on WFAN's "Talkin' Golf With Ann Liguori" radio show this morning. The RUSH guitarist spoke with Ann about his passion for golf, shared stories about playing golf while on the road with RUSH, discussed the parallels between music and golfing, and touched on a few RUSH-related subjects, including the legendary Canadian group's longevity, his friendship with his two bandmates and the possibility of him and bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee playing music together again."

Here is the paragraph where he talks about losing inspiration after Neil's death:

"Asked if he and Geddy ever talk about getting back on stage and playing music together again, Alex said: "Not really. It's been difficult. After Neil passed in January, I've played very little guitar. I don't feel inspired and motivated. It was the same thing when [Neil's] daughter died in a car accident in 1997; I didn't really play for about a year. And I just don't feel it in my heart right now. Every time I pick up a guitar, I just aimlessly kind of mess around with it and put it down after 10 minutes. Normally, I would pick up a guitar and I would play for a couple of hours without even being aware that I'm spending that much time. So I know it'll come back. And I think Geddy working on his book for those couple of years, he was so involved in that book — which is, by the way, a fabulous book — when he finished it, he went on a tour for a year promoting it. Every time I spoke to him about getting back together, he was, like, 'Yeah, when I get through this, when I get through this.' And then always something come up, I guess. I don't know if the motivation is there for us to really do anything now. We're certainly proud of our track record, and we still love music. But it's different now.""

Understandable, but I feel so sad for him.

What is the saddest?

Never having played :(

To have played and then watch it die :( :(

To have played, to still be able to play, but then have your desire to play extinguished :( :( :(

Given the circumstances, it's understandable that Alex doesn't have much inspiration to play right now. Maybe if he and Geddy start seriously talking about playing together again that might bring his spark back. If not, I am very happy with the musical legacy Alex has left. He's got nothing more to prove.

Yes it's sad to hear he's not playing much, but with Neil's passing it makes it even more obvious that they need to use their time wisely and do things every day that they're passionate about. You can talk all you want about average life expectancy of 80 something or so, but when you see people close to you passing it hits you harder that you aren't guaranteed your future.

Can relate to him very much.

At least he's not completely batting down the possibility of him and Ged doing something in the future

I would be in favor of him and Geddy doing an all instrumental project if they ever recorded together again. Just let them rock out together on an album or two.

Let sleeping dogs lie.

It's over. Everything must come to an end one day. They had a good 40 year run and gave so many much happiness for decades. What more could anyone want?

True, we don't need anything more from them. But as long as Geddy and Alex are still with us, people are going to continue to talk about the possibility of them working together again.

If they work together again it won't be because they feel they owe the fans anything, but it would just be because they both decided they wanted to play with each other again.

Isn't it interesting how we never question pro athletes when they decide to "hang it up"? They play for 10, 15, and even 20 years, and they're "retired" at age 40. Not one complaint from their adoring fans.

But a great many rock & roll fans expect their favorite bands to play forever, as if they're superhuman, and can play and sing perfectly for 30, 40, 50 years. I think it shows just how important music is to people. Music is one of the greatest human inventions ever.....

Musicians can keep on going forever if the desire to play is still there despite ailments or the loss of essential band members.Look at Keith Richards.Understandably Neil’s passing will take time. But Ged and Alex have been mates since school and if they don’t do anything professionally again I can still see them having the old knees up somewhere.

Once he gets inspired again, he should do something bizarre -- like an album of solo classical guitar. Or just a bunch of crazy noise.

It won't interfere with Rush's legacy.

He can do literally whatever he wants.

A classical guitar album would be great! :haz:
