Is it the band, their mgmt. or the promoter?

So finally got word that the Steely Dan with Steve Winwood show scheduled for June 2 has been postponed. The new date is exactly one year later, June 2, 2021. That's fine as I'm sure they want to make sure they can tour without the threat of another summer of no concerts around the world. Here's the pisser though. They have given me exactly 30 days to request a refund or hold the tix for another 11 months thereafter. I called Ticketbastard and asked about it. The guy had to put me on hold and check with a superior to make sure I was telling him the facts. He told me "that's what been decided" and that Ticketbastard had nothing to do with it. I believe him 100% because I have never seen a time limit on refund requests, at least one that expired 11 months prior to the concert taking place.

I like my seats, but it seems really shitty to lock someone in for a show 11 months later. I'm seeing the show 50% because of Winwood and 50% because of SD. I really like Winwood and if by some chance he's not with them a year from now I'll be at least somewhat disappointed. Because of that, I am likely to get my refund and take a chance on still getting decent seats. Fortunately Portland is nototerious for last minute purchasing so I likely could still get something good in like February or early March if I'm sure Winwood is still opening.

My question is: who do you think the greedy bastards are in this scenario? Opinions appreciated.

As an aside, if you haven't seen Winwood doing Can't Find My Way Home from his house and you like the song/him, watch it. His voice is still spot on.......

Ticketmaster is full of shit. No way they don't have some say in this. After that it's the management. Unless the artists themselves are involved on the business side of things, it's really not up to them. Even if the artist is involved with it, ticketmaster and Live Nation weild more power than they do. That's why you don't see too many bands challenge them.

I suppose another reason they want people to commit to going to the show this far in advance is so they know that it's worth rescheduling. I don't know how many people are going to do that though because there's no guarantee that things are going to get back to any kind of normalcy by next year.

I think after a year you're also unable to do a charge back on your credit card, should it get postponed again and they hold your money hostage for even longer or indefinitely. If you can't do a charge back, you would have to bring them to court if they don't willingly refund you at a later date.

As far as who is to blame - I'd say the promoter is at fault for not cancelling the entire tour and trying again in 6+ months. They're basically trying to keep contracts/arrangements running at the expense of the fans.

I've had four summer shows canceled/postponed.

One was for tonight at the Stone Pony, Asbury Park NJ, at their outdoor venue. The Trey Anastasio Band. This show was canceled so I received an immediate refund.

I was really looking forward to this show: get to Asbury Park early, walk the boardwalk, eat seafood, and enter the venue early to stand at the front of the stage. Oh well.

The other shows: Dead and Co, Aug 1, Roger Waters Aug 5, and Phish Aug 15 have all been rescheduled for the same dates 2021. I don't know what I'll be doing next summer so I asked for a refund on those three shows.

I have no doubt there will be tickets available next spring/summer for those shows so I'll wait and buy tickets then.

Don't let all those shrooms go to waste.

I wish I had that issue.

I was given a similar offer for a show in June (Brit Floyd) and requested the refund. Too many unknowns about what the concert scene will be like come next year, so I'd rather take the sure thing with the money. My guess is TM is somehow avoiding a lawsuit by offering this limited window for a refund and is hoping most people will sleep on it, forget and miss the deadline.

But if it was TM, why wouldn't they do this for every postponed show? I have a ticket for Roger Waters and he postponed about a month and a half ago and I can get a refund whenever I want. Look I hate TM as much as the next person, but this time I really don't believe it's them because examples like that.

Well so here's a surprise, it seems it was Ticketbastard all along, or at least the circumstantial evidence points that way. I have tix to the Doobie Bros. 50th Anniversary Tour show that was scheduled for September at the shed near me and they've of course postponed til next year Oct. 5th. And just like the Steely Dan/Steve Winwood show it was made clear that you either hold on to your tix for the next year and 4 months or get your refund within 30 days. Sadly I'm playing right into their hands as the seats are so damned good (16th row, absolutely dead center) that I don't want to give them up. I'm curious if Roger Waters refused to let them pull this bullshit or if they hadn't thought of this little scenario when he postponed a couple of months back (still no make-up date.....c'mon Rog, we at least wanna know).

Oh, and one other thing.....fukk Ripoffmaster!
