RushFanForever
My Prog Drummer Mick Pointer of Marillion and Arena Prog (Issue 109) - 7 May 2020 The following part in the interview stands out: Your prog hero? Neil Peart. I was a bit late to the Rush party, but hearing him play on the 2112 album was a game changer for me. I was lucky enough to shake his hand after a Rush show in Brighton in 1980. What’s the most important piece of prog music? The entirety of 2112. When I heard it I thought, ‘Now that’s what prog music should be.’ Your favourite prog album cover? by Arena. I thought all Hugh Syme’s artwork for Rush was brilliant, and I was lucky enough to work with him on that one in 1998. He says it’s one of his favourites too, and I’m very proud of that. Tony R
Poor old Mick got dumped from Marillion before they got to tour with Rush. His drumming on Script is very pedestrian but I think he must have practiced long and hard before he formed Arena.
RUSHHEAD666
Poor old Mick got dumped from Marillion before they got to tour with Rush. His drumming on Script is very pedestrian but I think he must have practiced long and hard before he formed Arena. I don't agree at all about Mick's drumming being "pedestrian." Sterile and safe? Perhaps. I mean "The Web" really? EPIC! I think Ian Mosley is a solid drummer but even his drum patterns and cymbal motions are quite redundant and mediocre at best. Marillion with H at the helm of vocals is a snooze fest for old balding prog boys with nothing else to do than dream of when progressive rock music was exciting. Pointer is underrated. I love ARENA. Great band. Very Pendragonish. Many on this board of so-called progressive rock know it alls don't even know what Pendragon is. Hilarious.
RUSHHEAD666
I've heard of the animal camel. But is there such a band with the same name? This Forum drives me fuckking nuts sometimes. No wonder I'm insane and do cocaine every night upside-down while pouring whiskey down my asshole. That's hard to do. No hangover. You pedestrian proggers should try it. LOL!!!! RushFanForever
A drummer needs to learn to get out of their own way and not be a pedestrian.
RUSHHEAD666
A drummer needs to learn to get out of their own way and not be a pedestrian. Wow! Funny RFF. Timing is everything. Listening to Scott Rockenfield do a drum solo right now. Some live boot. Very good.
RUSHHEAD666
I am very happy that some on here do know of Arena. I.Q. is another prog band I love that not many care about. I.Q. is better now in my opinion. But I dig it all.
