Weatherman
http://youtu.be/XMFradClv1oI just watched this. Man, Jacob's Ladder sounds terrific on piano. It makes me think of "Asturias", a Spanish piece that was initially written on piano by Isaac Albeniz about a century ago. After he died, someone transcribed it to the guitar, where it took on new life and became part of the canon. Listen with good headphones:
Fridge
and Nobody's Hero You've got to be f***ing joking.that it took me a day to put it on my list, or that I think it's a beautiful song? If you truly have to ask that then I despair.... It's f***ing hideous. Why? Where to start? The music is average, nothing special, but those cheesy, ham-handed awkward lyrics are dreadful. The thing is the subject matter is interesting, even worthy, but Neil approaches it with all the nuance and finesse of a teenager with Aspergers, Very poor...

I don't see many, if any, bands tackling the topics raised by the band in 1993. I mean, singing about tolerance to homosexuality in 1993? Novel to say the least.

I already made the point that the subject matter itself was entirely worthy. It's the cringe-inducing awkwardness of the execution which makes my buttocks clench with embarrassment whenever I hear it.

doublereeder
Force Ten The Pass Losing ItGhost Rider Witch Hunt Dreamline Bravado ... Basically ditto'd a lot of other folks and added Force Ten. There's something almost nostalgic about it - it reminds me of summer and the serenity that comes with a thunderstorm. One of my favorites. LeChuck
I will throw down the gauntlet and nominate Rivendell. Soft and slow, beautiful lyrics and imagery, perfect acoustic backing. That being said, I would pay a million dollars to hear Geddy sing 'Lying in the warm grass, feel the sun upon your ass' in the beginning. I wonder if they set that rhyme up on purpose as a joke. My backups (in order of preference) would be Madrigal, Tears, Losing It, Different Strings, Mission, Marathon

I legit thought he was going to say that when i heard the song for the first time in a long time - I was laughing even though he never said it hah

GeddysMullet
Neil was not a subtle kind of guy, but he was, thank goodness, a little more subtle than that.
