Entre_Perpetuo
I was listening to Slayer as I was going to sleep the other night, and as I was drifting off I began imagining more and more vivid shapes and forms which seemed to somehow match the sounds I was hearing, and they would change and move as the sounds did. I think because I was going to sleep I could really hone in on this effect of music, but I also think it's something that sits in my subconscious a lot. Listening to something will often spur a sense of place or environment in the listener from what I can tell. As a student of architecture I find this really interesting as it shows some kind of subconscious connection and relationship between the visual and audible arts at a really basic level. Just sounds influencing forms, nothing as thought out and constructed as say the score of a film conversing with the images on screen. Have you ever experienced anything like this, a kind of visualization of sounds?
Nova Carmina
Yes, all the time -- although less as shapes than as tones of light or colors. I'd be careful about listening to Slayer at bedtime, though!

J2112YYZ
Yes, most of the time. Did listening to Slayer before you fell asleep give you any nightmares?
Entre_Perpetuo
Yes, most of the time. Did listening to Slayer before you fell asleep give you any nightmares? Nope! Actually they're surprisingly easy to fall asleep to, I think because they don't play with dynamics that much, so eventually they just kind of read as white noise. JohnnyBlaze
Death metal is an asymmetrical polygon that seems interesting at first glance. But on further inspection it's not much to look at so I get bored and walk away. J-pop music is a tiny, very faint pink, transparent cube that fits on the tip of my index finger. I try to flick it away but the shit box keeps coming back and attaching itself to that index finger.

bathory
... under the influence or not under the influence? yeah, I was about to say, this is a psychedelic thing. when I listen to music I usually just picture what the band might look like playing it, or the album cover
Three Eyes
Rush made a lot of cinematic music. It's always been easy for me to see what Neil's lyrics are saying.
