ST3V
Substandard and forgettable...despite good sound and production, maybe examples? Just speaking for myself, the Test for Echo album as a whole is exactly this. IMHO there are no great or terrible songs on it, just a few good ones (Test for Echo, Driven, Time & Motion) and plenty of forgettable ones (Half the World, Virtuality, Carve Away the Stone, and some others). Sound wise, it’s perfectly fine - good even. It’s substandard in terms of Rush songs and albums but better than most other bands out there. All 3 of the forgettable ones you listed here are some of my favorites from T4E. But thats probably because I'm one of the rare people who put T4E above 2112 so you can choose to listen to me or not, It doesn't matter ? You sound defensive Its not that, its just that It's kinda funny how the ones you say are forgettable are some of the least forgettable for me

I think Natural Science is their best tune. Some would agree but most wouldn’t. You say “tomayto”, and i say “tomhahto”.

Weatherman
Tai Shan. A thousand times, Tai Shan.If you disagree, then someone must've been setting off M-80s in your skull. ;-)
Snowdog92
I don't think I can pin point it to a single song but I will stand by Power Windows - Hold Your Fire - Presto being the worst era and string of albums released. I do like to pick some odd songs off of them but as a group of songs together it's the weakest. Roll The Bones is kinda in a weird spot between that and then their 90's sound but it's got a lot more charm than the previous albums mentioned imo. The rap may in the title track might be looked at as some cheesy stint but it's full of rhythm and was fun at shows and differentiated them from other prog rock acts that may have been more close minded to a lot of the up and coming genres at the time. I see the hate on Vapor Trails still exists here lol I rather hear loud guitars than synths.
Bahamas
Just listened to Dog Years tonight, some of the most intense drumming...ever! They love (d) dogs, there is a reason. And Half The World? Amazing guitar and bass.I speak for myself when I say, ya'll are SUPER critical in a personal way, not a musical way?Superconductor, how many key changes? And super cool electro-voice add-ins, like Subdivisions. I will step away from this topic, promise! After watching for a few more days :)

EagleMoon
Tai Shan immediately pops to mind when anyone says “worst” Rush song but it’s such an oddball little clunker that I usually just forget it exists. There are quite a few songs I don’t care to listen to, like most of Vapor Trails, CA or Presto, but that’s partly due to poor production and partly due to what I see as a bit of burnout on their part. Not every song can be a La Villa.

_hi_water._
Half the World Lyrics that could have been written by a fourth grader combined with dull music.Thing is, I don't know if a fourth grader would write such lyrics :lol:And the funnier part is that this wasn't written by a fourth grader
jnoble
Faithless. Unimaginative music and Neil's lyrics just rehash what he's already said before on the subject. BU2B is the same. The heavy main riff is so generic sounding like they composed it in ten minutes flat

I don't agree with this either. The lyrics never bothered me. Dog Years’ lyrics never bothered me. Rush’s two worst songs’ lyrics never bothered me (Bravest Face and Spindrift). Natural Science became my favorite Rush song before I even knew what they lyrics meant. Rush lyrics were always the icing on the cake but they never totally ruined or made any of their songs. HemiBeers
I always thought the Cygnus X-1 lyrics and singing was Spinal Tap cheesy. But as an instrumental on the last tour it kicked ass.

As for “SUPER critical in a personal way”, if Rush affects us in a SUPER personal way then wouldn’t it follow that we’d be super critical of this and that? I don’t mind Superconductor btw, but it makes sense why hardcore Rush fans would at times be overly-analytical of certain Rush moments / traits.

Bahamas
Face Up is different. For sure, very "poppy" and "teen radio" perhaps. But my goodness, the guitar is nothing to ignore. I have read before, and continue to believe, they never put out anything they didn't think was worth making. Perhaps, listen again (!) and just listen to the guitar. Very fun and was probably a great amount of fun to make, sure sounds that way. ...plink, plink.
