I don't despise Tai Shan. I can certainly understand Geddy's and Alex's opinion that they let Neil slip some lyrics in there that were really a little too personal for a band song.

I actually like the music itself, lyrics aside. I especially like Alex's guitar tone in this song.

That being said, if Xanadu was God, then Tai Shan would be a paramecium.

I wonder if even a single person votes for Tai Shan. :16ton:

Ed Hunter marches to his own beat. :)

I guess.

I thought for sure it would have been Zumbi. He loves being contrary.

He’d disagree with that. ;)

I've picked by voting for my always, favorite Rush song "Xanadu".

I've had Tai Shan (which I don't mind,by the way) stuck in my head since this thread started a few days ago!

I'm lucky in that I've heard Tai Shan only once in my life -- I can't hum a single bar, so it can't get stuck in my head! My one and only listen was 33 years ago when I first bought the CD. Because it and High Water are the last two songs, I can simply stop playing the album after Turn The Page and be spared the agony.

And I still skip over Second Nature, too. That one I've heard a few times, so it's familiar enough to get stuck in my head, and it's painful.

Tai Shan and Second Nature aren’t so bad to me, but I can skip them. Still, compared to other slower songs like Speed of Love and Halo Effect, they’re good. Additionally, Geddy’s vocals are much better imho on the HYF tracks than the others i mentioned.

I giggled when I saw this topic.

Tai Shan gets a bit of a bad wrap, but compared to Xanadu?

Xanadu.

However, I don't dislike Tai Shan, and it reminds me of how the band let each other explore and record different tastes in each other's interests.

2 odd songs to compare to each other.

Xanadu is a masterpiece in itself, one of my favorite Rush songs, best one from AFTK. Nothing else to be said.

Tai Shan is the weakest song from HYF, but It's still not all that bad (that shows you how much I like HYF) The lyrics are not ok, but the music itself makes up for it.
