Dallas Cowboys

You're right; I think the Pats can be had, but it'll be impossible if we give them a two touchdown head start! (Even one would be very bad, most likely). Can the Cowboys offense overcome the Pats' defense? I'll bet on Dak.

When I said "even one touchdown" would be very bad, I hadn't really meant "only one touchdown would be enough" but that was basically the case. Again, the Patriots defense is great, but the Cowboys being so toothless in the red zone -- and a team with such an offensive line and Zeke Elliot -- is a serious flaw.

Part of me wants to make excuses: it was in Boston (well, Foxboro, I guess?), the weather was shit and since Dallas has switched to a passing attack, the weather is harder on the passing game, etc., etc.

But another part of me wants to point out than when Dallas was driving late and had to get one yard for a first down, they called a pass play. Did I mention that this team has multiple all-pros on the O-line and the league's leading rushers two of the last three seasons? And have you seen the conversion rates for quarterback sneaks? It works a lot! But no, somebody had to try to be Mr. Clevertrousers instead of just ramming the ball forward one yard. And they'd have had two cracks at it, given it's a must-have go-for-it-on-4th-down situation. When Bear Bryant said "three things can happen on a pass attempt, and two of them are bad" he was forgetting that the longer an offensive lineman has to block, the more likely there will be a penalty of some sort. So that's four things, and three of them are bad. (I get that they "converted" the pass, but they didn't really, did they?)

And another part of me wants to join the bandwagon 'round here and call for robot refs. Phantom tripping, phantom tripping.

On the bright side, the Eagles got paddled, so the Dallas Mediocres stay in position for a first-round playoff exit. Still on the bright side, Jones's comments after the game seemed really frustrated with the situation and it's not hard to see the end of the Garrett Era (Error) from here.

"The Cowboys Can’t Close, the 49ers Can’t Be Stopped, and More Week 12 Reactions

The Cowboys continue to underperform despite having one of the best rosters in the league, and it’s time for a coaching change"

The Cowboys Got Tripped Up by Bad Calls—but Have Only Themselves to Blame for Losing to the Patriots

A dubious tripping penalty derailed a late drive, but Dallas was ultimately done in by uninspired play-calling and a dominant New England defense in a 13-9 loss

I endorse these headlines from The Ringer

I agree those tripping calls were bogus! Freaking refs inserting themselves into the game. I think I heard there were 9 tripping calls in the whole NFL last year! BUT.....this team is one of the biggest under performing teams in the history of the league. The boneheaded mistakes are absolutely unacceptable. Fielding kickoffs and punts is a shit show this year. Coverage and blocking on punts etc etc. That is on coaching!! This team is not playing to their ability and it has to end now. I too was happy to see that Jerry is finally looking very unhappy.

No sooner had Aikman mentioned that the Cowboys had trouble with the last short kickoff, than they misplayed the next one, with one of the short (upfield) players moving like he was going to catch it, confusing the whole thing and costing at least ten yards, and possibly more if there was any kind of return. Amateur hour.

Total amateur hour! Pollard has misplayed so many kick offs and punts. Not sure if he is lacking upstairs or not coached well. Also the punt that Tavon faircatched in the last game where he had the whole field open down the left sideline. It is like the special teams have no idea how to execute.

If he doesn't know what's coming, he's a worse game analyst than I thought!

Time to go, sir.

That, surely is evidence enough Garrett cannot get results out of this team. How is it possible, with this many talented individual players, that they have a losing record? While I'm at it, I think I've also heard enough about what a rising star Kris Richard is as a defensive coordinator. I know the poor guy can't go out there and do the tackling himself, but we haven't exactly shut anybody down recently (the 13 for the Patriots has to be viewed in light of the weather, the fact the Pats offense is weak, and that we still lost the damn game).

Not good enough.

Although, maybe good enough to still win through to the playoffs! And then who knows what could happen! Didn't the Cardinals go the Super Bowl as a 9-7 team, huh? It can be done!*

(*I know what could happen: we lose to the Seahawks/49ers 37-7 in the first game.)

At least two other teams made it at 9-7, the 1979 Rams, and the 2011 Giants, who won the game.

This is an utter cluster f#@k. The most disappointing season in 48 years of watching the Cowboys. What an embarrassment that game last night was. They should be freaking ashamed of themselves. Hot Boyz??? Us fans should sue the team for pain and suffering!

Man I thought the Eagles were going to lose last night. Probably a good thing they didn't. Cowboys would have gone into Sunday knowing they could lose and still be in first. Now they have to earn it.

We did everything we could to lose. lol.

The NFC East is a shambles. Sad.

I said the same thing about the Bears game, but this should be a test. They failed before; we'll see what happens here. It looks like the Rams may be regaining their mojo at exactly the wrong time (from the Dallas point of view).

Has the team quit on Garrett?

Garrett is a joke. I am not sure they have quit on him. There are some really good players and I can't see that they would lose just to get rid of him, but I also think he has no idea how to make them perform better. I am going into this Sunday with zero confidence until they prove me otherwise.

Well what was that!!?? Is that the team we were expecting all season long finally showing itself in Game 14? Or just another aberration? Regardless of the shared mediocrity, next Sunday is going to be a fun old NFC East battle.

One game closer to the end of the Garrett era.

Elliot only had 47 yards. Got that fat contract and now he's coasting.

Apparently part of that contract was the ability to take himself out in crucial situations.
