We may have done this before, but I thought it'd be fun to do. Vote for your top 3 signature sidelong epics from the list above (or for other if I'm missing an essential, then tell me how wrong I am for not including it if you please). Only one per band (too bad for Tales fans, lol), and each is what I understand to be the band's most signature attempt at the side-long song form (or album long in one infamous case).

Octavarium instead of A Change Of Seasons?

Um, no.

I never said I was the most qualified one to make this poll. :16ton:

Oh geez, Tubular Bells used to give me headaches like crazy, I don't know why. I went with Close To The Edge, Thick As A Brick, and 2112 because I genuinely like them and also because they are the only ones I have heard (besides Tubular Bells! :P ) I guess I missed when it was prog month or something.

I decided to pick, and choose by voting for "Rush - 2112", "Yes - Close to the Edge", and "Genesis - Supper's Ready". If it was out of five votes, and not three, then I would add by choosing to vote for "Pink Floyd - Echoes", and "Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells Part One", too. Edited by Derek19

The thread inspired me to re-visit A Passion Play this morning, so thanks for that!

2112 is tops, probably followed by Tull and Floyd. I'll give these all a listen to confirm... :P

What is a "signature sidelong epic"?

It's a sidelong epic (so a very long song that takes up a whole side of a vinyl record, or nearly does in the case of Supper's Ready) which is considered by fans to be one of the band's signature songs, and in these cases is more renown than any of the band's other sidelong epics.

Supper's ready is my fav epic by anyone so....there ya go.

Mick

It's probably my 2nd favorite song, which almost pains me to say being such a huge Rush fan and such a huge fan of 2112, but it just doesn't get any better than Supper's Ready.

You and I were in the mood for the same type of music this morning. I listened to For Those About to Rock (We Salute You). :)

Great concept album, with really challenging lyrics.

I think people need to open up their mind and realize that there's other prog-rock bands and albums besides the ones in this poll.

Read this article below and choose others besides the obvious.

50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums of All Time

Bring up Crack The Sky more as an example.

but realistically no one's going to vote for epics they haven't even heard of, especially not when they're up against these classics.

Golly. Looks like I'm saying me too on 2112 and Echoes. Landmark stuff, though. I'll put in for the Fire Suite by The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown or Concerto For A Rainy Day by ELO.
