Cinema Strangiato.....anything new?

There were a few previously unseen clips, eg. A soundcheck jam of Jacob's Ladder, Losing It featuring Jonny Dinklage and....the SNIDER! :o

Is this available anywhere? I went last night, and this was definitely the highlight. Everything else was recycled stuff, but fun, or just an ad for Geddy's book. But, to me, the $15 was worth seeing that version, especially with the intro commentary from Dinklage. I thought it was presented, filmed and edited well.

This video (which is part of what was used in the film), was posted in Aug 2015. So, it's out there somewhere. I don't remember seeing it.

I have an idea, they should have a contest to see who the Best Rush tribute band is, give the winner the screen projections and let them tour like Brit Floyd or The Australian Pink Floyd. The official Tribute band of RUSH!

My vote would be for YYNot.

No question. Just about every other Rush tribute is too cringey for words.

LoL snider :D

had a great time :7up:

(even tho phoenix happy valley fans are overdue for another lesson from Brazil :/ )

totally worth the money...will watch for it to come around next year, too!

oh, and Geddy can still sing :fucku:

what's the name of the actor that introduced them for the highschool act?

Bonzie! :o :hi: :Neil:

I'm with you on all of this! Geddy's voice is adequate to good on most of R40. Except for Lakeside Park, that even I as a staunch defender of Geddy's voice have to admit he should have stayed away from. After seeing the film I was thinking that I wish they had represented Caress Of Steel with some arrangement of In The Valley/The Fountain, from Lamneth. I think Geddy could have sung that well, and the fans would have gone crazy.

I hope you're well. I so miss those listening parties we used to have in chat!

Of course you know I would have gone crazy if they didn't play all of Fountain.

Overall, I enjoyed the show last night. At the theater I went to here in Houston, I'd say it was probably more than 3/4 full. And almost all of the fans had their various Rush concert shirts on, which was awesome to see. I even saw a young daughter wearing (probably her dad's) original "Signals" jersey, with the added "The Summit March 6-7, Houston, TX", which was something that was only added to various shows that tour. I remember that particular jersey very well because I have it, and I'm even wearing it in an old 8th grade yearbook photo. So it was cool to see that young girl wearing it. People were wearing shirts from so many different tours, I wish I had taken a picture of the whole theater. I was wearing an old "Presto" tour shirt.

As for the show itself, I really like the interviews and behind the scenes stuff a lot, and I wish there was way more of that. The concert footage was good too, particularly because it seemed to me like they used a lot of alternate footage, from different angles and perspectives. For example, there seemed to be more close up footage of Alex playing some of his highlight parts, which was awesome. I can't say for certain that they used lots of alternate R40 footage, but that's what it seemed like to me.

I think they should have done more of what they did for Jacob's Ladder, which was play a montage of footage from many of the different cities on the R40 tour... they should have done that for many of the other songs as well. That was was one of the coolest things from the movie. The fans in the theater applauded when the Houston footage came on, and I'm sure it was probably like that in all of the cities that were shown. That really made it even more personal, and I think the fans would have really liked more of that.

What was really nice though, was seeing and hearing the show on big screen and in full blast. It was almost like being at the concert again, and with great seats. The sound was great, I could hear everything loudly and clearly, and the the guys were in tip top form on those performances. Even Geddy's voice and singing sounded good on the songs that they chose. And yes, even Lakeside Park sounded okay... his voice was much better that night than on some of the other performances of that song on that tour. Geddy wasn't straining and struggling as hard with it. So perhaps this was another alternate performance of that song.

Anyhow, it all sounded great to me. The main thing that kept hitting me, more than anything else... was just how awesome and skilled those three guys were when they were on stage like that. Their technical proficiency and musicianship was just insane, even on that last tour. Billy Corgan's comment was right on the money when he said that the 3 hour performance he watched that night.. would have been extremely difficult for 25 year old musicians to pull off... much less musicians in their 60's.

To me, that says it all. Rush... the greatest band of all time. (at least as far as most of us are concerned)

Never watched the R40 DVD so it was awesome to see it on the big screen with the killer sound system. And Losing It was SO GOOD!!!

it reminded me of the old days of seeing Song Remains The Same in the theater.

Here's the new song ;)

Trippy! Reminds me of early psychedelic with maybe some early Who too.

There you have it folks, even when Rush was just goofing around, they sounded better than many other bands.

Went with my sister and her son-in-law (soon to be). /There were 3 showings in our city and all sold out which surprises me, in a good way. Fun watching all the folks with various t-shirts and their kids with them. It was like being at the concert again, brought back lots of good memories. Sound was good and had a good view from comfy seats. Yeah this isn't the same as having them back but it sure beats NO Rush. Watching some of the bloopers was hilarious, had a good laugh.

Makes me sad they are done but they went out on a great note and even if they are old guys, they sure can play!! My sis has been a follower since she was 12, I didn't get to enjoy them that long but glad I saw them 3 times in concert. :dweez: :geddy: :Alex: :Neil: :rush: :haz:

Sure! But at the same time, you would have been stoked to get some of it, the same way I was with Book II! :P ;)

It wasn't exactly a highlight reel of the R40 DVD, but sort of. Some of the shots were different, and some of the songs were from a different performance. It wasn't anything terribly exciting in terms of content, but personally, I really got a kick out of just being in a public space with a bunch of Rush people enjoying some big-screen Rush footage, and reminiscing with random strangers after about what a great experience it was to see Rush live and commiserating regarding missing them. Worth the $11.55 I paid for the ticket.

Not sure I wouldn't rather see a Rush tribute band that puts a fair amount of post-1982 songs in their set.

I'd settle for a band in jeans and T-shirts that gets the spirit of the music and not feel the need to haul a refrigerator or dryer on stage. That stuff and projection screens are fun to watch but it's the spirit of the music and enjoyment from playing it that really works for me.

Despite owning the R40 blu-ray and all the other videos containing the truly hilarious intermission clips they mashed together, I still thoroughly enjoyed this! The new interviews were quite good and with more substance. and the side stories were interesting. Mostly, though, it was a testament to the enormous amount of footage that was captured at the time of the R40 tour. As a result, there were not just different angles, but a whole different look much of the time, not to mention the hilarious soundcheck footage, as well as the artistic superimposing of image and sound while keeping a cohesive narrative!!

It's also worth mentioning that my wife, who is not a Rush fan per se, quite enjoyed it. Interesting to see what they have in store for us next year...

Are you saying it was kind of a re-edit or that they used different R40 footage? If that's the case then I'm definitely in on the DVD.

Both. It was a mixture of footage from the R40 home video release, alternate R40 footage, and a different editing style. I really like the editing style, wish they'd redone the entire concert that way.

So they went back and kind of "remixed" it? Did they use footage from the other night? Different angles from the same night? A bit of both?

That would be totally worth it then because most of that stuff stays on the cutting room floor and/or is lost forever.

How cool would it be to release the whole show reinterpreted like that?

this "film" reminded me Geddy can't sing no more.

He can't! That's why I find it ironic that HE'S the one who actually wanted to keep touring! His voice is a better reason to retire than anything else.

This movie was essentially my 16-year-old's "first Rush concert." Hearing Geddy singing like that, she must've been thinking "THIS is the band my father's been raving about?"

If they ever tour again bring a vocalist to share duties with Geddy. He can do the late recording stuff and yodel or howl through some old stuff but let a vocalist like Amiee Mann handle the bulk.

She is better looking. But they are both geeky looking Edited by grasbo

I enjoyed the movie.

The backstage stuff was cool, wish that could have been in special features for the Bluray. Interviews were good, and nice to see a few of the R40 songs from different venues, plus the sound checks.

I hope the film was successful enough to keep them going.

I don't know if they remixed it, or what other footage was used... but the other posts are correct that not only did the footage look better, but it also seemed to be presented/edited better, and everything MOST DEFINITELY sounded way better. It's like I could hear all of the instruments and music much better. And I just listened to some of the original R40 music again... and Geddy's voice DOES sound much, much better in the new film. (even on the same songs!) I too, wish that they would redo the whole R40 DVD the same way that they did this film. Edited by Cmutt

From what I've been reading on here and on the facebook Rush fan group(clockwork angels) there wasn't much in here that wasn't in the R40 dvd. I haven't seen that so it didn't bother me.
