New July dates announced for Geddy's American book tour!

People are way focused on the 15 seconds of hello and thanks, but they forget about the 60 pound coffee table book you also get for the bulk of that “ticket” price. Thing is huge. And Detroit is added to the original dates as of yesterday somewhere in the middle. Edited by HalfwayToGone

Has anyone done one of his signings? I'm not expecting a photo (even though I've seen people break that rule and it's never looked like a happy photo on Ged's end), but I'd appreciate a little back and forth. I was also looking to get a very short lyric written with the book autograph for a tattoo (I have 3 Rush tats already, one being Cinderella Man lyrics on my ribcage) - I'm not sure how flexible he is during these things or if it's up to him. Maybe there's more flexibility when you're there towards the front of the line? Also, don't want to pay the extra $100 to have someone wait with me and video the signing from the side - have stores been letting people in the store while he's there?

This once highly unlikely dream of mine is happening next week and just want to know how to maximize my very short amount of time during it.

From what the 1 person I know who went one said, your back and forth will consist of him asking your name and you telling him. He'll sign, say thank you and you'll be ushered out. 10 seconds with him, tops.

Kinda what I figured. Ah well. I'd kick myself for not going, even if it's just 10 seconds. I bought a ticket for Chicago as soon as they went live.

Doing the same in Philly. I hope you get a good photo! I'm in a Rush FB group where 7 or 8 people have gone to the signings. Geddy looks pretty happy in many of them. I think the photo of "fan standing while Geddy signs their book" is expected by now, it's just that he's behind a table and can't hold up the line for repeated photos. In some places a store employee has been nice enough to take photos, in others, people ask the person behind them in line to take one. I'm not sure about the friend without a ticket, I would call the store and ask. My husband is coming with me to Philly and the Bookstore there said he can accompany me in the store but not all the way into the book signing area.

Oh sweet! This is so helpful! I'm heading by the bookstore today; I'll have to pop my head in and ask. Thanks for your insight! :) I hope you have a great time at the Philly signing!

Thanks for the advice...we have a friend who will be with us with who does not have a ticket.

I’ve helped out a couple of fans who came on their own to the event in Amsterdam. They were waiting in line behind me. I was at the event together with my husband and while he waited with our books after Ged had signed them (the sig has to dry for a least 15 mins) in another part of the bookstore I was able to film them during their 15 seconds m&g.

If you’re standing let’s say halfway in the queue then there’s plenty of time to check out if there is someone waiting nearby willing to help you out.

Exchange phone numbers so that they can send you the video via whatsapp. The best thing about video is that you can choose which frame is the best for THE ultimate souvenir photo afterwards.

Big Rush fan here for 43 years now but keeping it real for me at least. I can't imagine spending money and time for something like this. I volunteer working for the class A baseball team here locally the Myrtle Beach Pelicans a few days ago Lou Pinella was there for a signing event. The event and line was happening right out in front of our concession stand and I was thinking these people must be nuts. Throughout life I have been impressed by many people in all walks of life but I honestly have never been impressed enough to go through this kind of thing. In the late 80's I was lucky enough to meet and get a picture taken with the late great golfer Payne Stewart at the Kemper Open in the DC area. A couple years later he was there again and I got him to sign it. I guess that's the closest I've come to this kind of thing. Just being honest but to each their own....Cheers Edited by Narps

Again—the money part is mostly to buy the book, which retails for around $75-$80. Yeah you can find it for closer to $55 on amazon probably, but that is a discounted price. And it’s a ton of book. Worth the price IMO signed or not, but throwing in zero to $20 extra to get an autograph and a second to say thanks is not spending a ton of money, and waiting is what it is. I had no trouble finding ways to entertain myself on line by actually meeting and chatting with other fans. Plus if you’re smart, you get there as late as you can get away with, so the line is short by the time you get there and you’re waiting only a few minutes instead of a few hours. Counter-intuitive play, but it works—everyone is caught up in being as far up in line as possible, waiting hours before the event even starts. Be late, when the line is cooking along already and half the people already are heading home.

I got my book yesterday from Amazon, but haven't opened the box yet. We're taking an RV to Maine in a few weeks. I'll probably read it up there.

Enjoy! If you’re any kind of gear nerd at all, you’ll be more than entertained...your family will be annoyed that you won’t put it down. Over 400 pages, and some really interesting bits from the interviews too, like Geddy getting his balls busted for getting a bass bought for him by his mom that he then worked in her shop to pay her back for. Very Monty Python moment there...”when I was a lad we lived in a hole in the road, and every morning we’d wake up 5 hours before we went to bed, and had to lick the road clean with our tongues! And we were grateful!” I think it’s Bill Wyman who gives him a hard time or another British guy who grew up poorer than dirt and had to practically make his own bass from an old shoelace and some already chewed gum. I’m paraphrasing of course, but you get the gist.

Well... The Lerxt1990 met Geddy Lee today. Wow. Good advice on this thread and the other. Friends, companions, line buddies could take photos (and it was easy nice vantage point from line - it was quick, there were a LOT of people. About 10 second, hi hello smile and off. But a genuine hello and some funny ball breaking about baseball and now the signed book. Very cool event.

Here are my photos from this afternoon! It was wonderful, mostly. (Geddy and his handlers- 10 + ! Barnes and Noble- 1). It was quite the adventure all around. We took the train from Harrisburg which is about 30 minutes away (Philly is hard to park in and afternoon traffic is bad.) We thought that would be easier, but were stuck for awhile when a bad accident caused gridlock on the beltway and we went 3 miles in 45 minutes. However, beautiful day, no other transportation problems and it was fun meeting other Rush fans and seeing all the different t shirts!

People who had been to other signings are right; it is a brief moment of time and Geddy was not real talkative during our part of the line, but it still was wonderful. One of my main impressions was that I can't believe how much he looks exactly like his photos and videos! (I've been to other book signings and most authors are not like that )

GIRL COMMENT I also couldn't believe how handsome his eyes are. They are about 5 different colors, a hazel mix I guess, and he is good to look directly at people and this person when they were fan geeking out and thanking him. It was almost mesmerizing. :) GIRL COMMENT. Photos!

Totally worth it, thank you Geddy Lee! (Even with B and N making me and another man sit on the floor all afternoon when Geddy had two chairs (aka my throne) set aside for us!)

I have an immune system disorder. When I have to stand for a long time, I get dizzy and faint; (it's not just a little woozy, I have an accommodation due to this. It's not much compared to what some people deal with but it's legit.) Called and talked to Barnes and Noble and they said, No problem, we will have chairs. Got there and the B and N staff said "no chairs", sorry. Another man and I spent most of the afternoon sitting on their lovely carpet while my husband was kind enough to hold a place in line. He finally gets close to the front and I go up- THERE ARE TWO FREAKING CHAIRS RIGHT IN FRONT OF GEDDY LEE FOR PEOPLE ! His handler said please sit down in them! Watching Ged interact with other fans for about 10 minutes was so wonderful, it was worth it for that alone. He was so kind and respectful to everyone (and everyone was star struck!) But no thanks to B and N (and this other poor man who was much worse off than me) that they said there were no chairs . . . grr... However, they were pretty overwhelmed and there were a lot of fans!

Obviously I just should have arranged to faint in Ged's arms! Finishing up with a few other photos from today! My husband met a twin (who also wears cargo shorts, ! My husband on the right. ). Ok enough, I'm over excited! But this is a Rush forum!

I should have added something to my story- the book itself is gorgeous and really interesting! It's SO big it's a little hard to balance when you read it, but it's really a great book. Definitely something for Geddy to be proud of!

Which printing is it? Curious to know how many there have been so far.

Mine is a third printing.

They’re into a third printing already? They must not be very huge print runs then. But I guess a gigantic book like that for bass/Rush nerds, you don’t expect to sell like a Harry Potter book. As I’ve said since it came out, yes it’s a pretty swanky book with a bit of a relief on the cover and it’s huge, not to mention enjoyable to look through and read—literally a ton of book for your money.
