Mitch Mitchell is a helluva drummer, and I really like the range of ideas he brings to 'Axis.'

He kicks ass all over the place, but his understated playing on "Little Wing" is classic stuff, and so musical.

"Up From the Skies" is pretty swingin' too!

I think...

All are essential.

Agree and Blues is damned good if you haven't heard it.

If I have to choose one it's the debut.

Yes it is, I love that Blues album. (Who cares if it’s a compilation?).

But of the original albums, I have to say Axis is mine.

Mitch Mitchell deserves so much higher praise than I think he has ever gotten.

When I first started playing the drums, he was one of my biggest influences.

Concur 100%. Very underrated imo. Jimi changed bass players, but he never changed drummers and that speaks volumes

AYE is one of the very best rock debut albums, along with VH1, Appetite For Destruction, and The Doors. These albums sound like the bands are three albums into their careers; near flawless, well fleshed-out masterpieces. Axis and Electric Lady are killer too, but AYE is pretty much perfect.

--PS. I didn't count Ozzy, Danzig or DLR's debut solo albums (which are all amazing), because they were well into their careers and surrounded by veteran musicians.

Buddy Miles might disagree with you.

"Buddy Miles? He's like...a cement mixer!" - Mitch Mitchell

Blues is f*cking awesome. Great for long drives.

The BBC Sessions are worth a listen too.

The debut is the best.

One of the few albums I can play all the way through on both guitar & bass.

It's a phenomenal record.

Shit, just realized that there were two versions of the debut album: the International and North American versions.

The one I grew up on was this one:

The UK version included Red House, Can You See Me and Remember, and excluded Purple Haze, Hey Joe, and Wind Cries Mary.

Guess I'll have to get the cd with bonus tracks.

The UK version excluded what are arguably his 3 best known songs? Wow.

By the way, thanks to Tex for making this thread. I had all but forgotten about Hendrix, but have been binging on his stuff since reading this thread. Simply brilliant.

Electric Lady Land. A long eclectic mix of a double album. Hendrix started out good but got better each time, I thought. I`ll hold out for Cry Of Love.
