Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl was photographed driving with Rush frontman Geddy Lee in leaked photos near the Cosmo MusicFEST 2019 in Richmond Hill, Canada over the weekend. Grohl was seen driving Lee in a car, and the two are rumored to be working on a secret project.

Grohl was asked in a 2018 Rolling Stone interview how he’d react to Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee asking him to replace Neil Peart in Rush.

“I would say, ‘I’m not physically or musically capable, but thanks for the offer.’ Neil Peart, that’s a whole other animal, another species of drummer. I know the arrangements, but I’m like Meg White to Neil Peart. And she’s one of my favorite drummers! She’s my daughter’s favorite drummer, too. My daughter plays drums to two types of music: White Stripes and AC/DC. I’m like, ‘That’s exactly what you need to be doing.'”

He added, “She is one of those drummers that if you hear 15 seconds of her recording, you’ll know who it is and that to me has always been the gold standard. That’s always been the challenge. You want to know when you hear it, like, you’re like, ‘Oh, that’s John Bonham. Oh, that’s Charlie Watts. That’s Ringo. That’s Stewart Copeland. That’s Meg White.’ And that’s not easy to do. That means you’re playing from the heart. No, she’s great, man. I mean honestly.”

Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins joined Rush at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2013. Grohl told Rolling Stone in 2013, “It’s terrifying to play your favorite band’s song in front of your favorite band. It’s one thing to sit in the basement and woodshed 2112, and its another to stand in front of Rush in a f***ing kimono and a wig and try to use a wah-wah pedal in your platform shoes. It was amazing. Tonight was one of the most special nights of my life.”

He added, “When I got 2112 when I was eight years old; it f***ing changed the direction of my life. I heard the drums. It made me want to become a drummer. At rehearsals the other day, I had never met Neil Peart before. Alex [Lifeson] and Geddy [Lee] are the nicest people in the world. I was coming to rehearsal and I was meeting Neil for the first time, and this man was as influential as any religion or any hero or any person in someone’s life. He said, “So nice to meet you. Can I make you a coffee?” And he made me a coffee, man. And later on that night, I went to dinner and had a couple glasses of wine and I started f***ing crying because my hero made me a f***ing coffee. It was unbelievable, man. So that’s kind of how this whole experience has been.”

I would believe Dave was there for the music fest and to see friends, before I would believe that there is a secret project. We can dream, though! I'd be first in line! :ebert:

So, two friends were at a music festival together and that somehow means they're working on a project?

Yeah, I can totally see how they came to that conclusion lol.

Well, it's interesting that Grohl traveled up to a Canadian music festival just to check out some bands and visit his pal Geddy.

Are they "pals" anyway? I think there is something to this.

I think it's very possible. Aren't their mothers friends as well? Maybe Mrs. Weinrib got tired of her little Gary moping around. And he's probably driving Nancy nuts. Edited by Lorraine

They share a producer - Nick R.

Dave appears on the 2112 Reissue.

As Lorraine pointed out above, their moms are pals.

I'm going to put Dave as Lifeson-Lee/Rush's new drummer in the "most likely" column.

He wouldn't even have to learn most of the songs. I'm sure he already knows them.

In any event, I'm with you; I think there is a very strong possibility that it may happen. We shall have to wait and see. Maybe by the end of the summer there will be some type of trial run.

Dave is a very well liked and known musician. It's very possible he got an invite to this festival by a number of people he knows in the music world. Geddy could have very well been one of them.

I wouldn't mind if they were working on something together. But two musicians being spotted together near a music festival doesn't mean they're working on something.

Absolutely- I’m just saying there is a little weight to the rumor.

Who knows maybe Grohl will sing and play guitar in this possible project?

It wouldn't be Rush. Not ever.

But I can see it happening. Perhaps that's just desperation - hoping that Ged and Al do /something/ more together before it's too late.
