Albums you love despite their flaws.

Recommended Posts

I was going to post Snakes & Arrows earlier, but decided against it. It's the only album I could think of that I love despite the fact that it stinks.

i think stinks is strong. i go with CA for that. ah.....memories of CA huh Lorraine? those good old rants, lol

The good old TRF days. I still remember the thread we hijacked with the Broadway play songs. I don't think I ever laughed so hard.

Played SA from start to finish tonight. I enjoyed every track

But like Mindfields, my issue is that, for all the goodness, it goes on so long.

Snakes And Arrows is perhaps the Rush album that has surprised me the most. Used to find it impenetrable, really dirgey and boring. But since leaving religion, the lyrics took on more meaning, and I noticed how strong and confident the band sounds musically. It's one of the bands most beautiful albums musically, and production wise I don't think we give it enough credit.

But sadly, despite the odd moment when the album just sounds so good, CA for the most part leaves me cold. It's one of the rare Rush albums where the filler comes to mind more rapidly than the good stuff. And that's because the good stuff...isn't my idea of Rush at their very best.

yea SA is too long but sounds great and the good is really quite great.

CA sounds like shit and has about 3 good tracks.....5 at my most generous.. and DRAGS harder then SA ever does.

Yes - Fragile

sue me, but the solo songs just aren't as good as the full band pieces and they break up the flow of the album

but I love it anyway. Not like there's anything BAD on here (although I'm not sure "5 percent for nothing" is good)

YES recorded their version of "America" around the same time as Fragile. Now while i enjoy the short solo songs, imagine Fragile with America instead of those short individual songs!

Roundabout

Long Distance Runaround

South Side of the Sky

America

Heart of the Sunrise

That would be one of the greatest albums of all-time!!!!!

erm...I must not be a very good Yes fan because I've never heard of "America"

It's their version of the Simon and Garfunkel song. they made it a 10 minute prog rock masterpiece!!

(since the list format seems blown up)

Rush - Presto (thin sound, the songs are there)

King's X - Please Come Home...Mr. Bulbous (weird, experimental album...not for everyone. Too short an album)

Dream Theater - Falling Into Infinity - ("commercial" I guess, but it's a favorite)

That would be the flaw of the listener, not the album. Sad, really. :(

I wonder what American composer Charles Ives has to say about this?

The Wildhearts - Endless Nameless

Horrid production. recorded when they were all off their tits on smack, the songs are actually still very good buried in the crappy mix.

Please Come Home has some great stuff.

Marshmallow Fields, Julia... some filler too.

The album cover just plain sucks though. That has a lot to do with a lot of the negative unfortunately.

My band opened for them in San Diego on that tour. Maybe 15 people at the show.
