What are you thoughts on Rush Bootlegs

I can't remember the name of it but I remember hearing a boot from the Power Windows tour and being blown away by the clear quality of the recording. It had to be from someone who worked for the band. That's how good it was. On top of that the band sounded perfect both musically and vocally. I was in awe of how flawless the performance sounded.

Aside form owning Rush 'N' Roulette, I have zero interest in bootlegs

How many times can you listen to the same set of songs, with varying degrees of quality and performance?

That said I would murder someone for a full version of the ESL tour...

:P

Have you heard RUSH: ANAHEIM - The Definitive Edition? Although this would technically be the MP Tour..

A definitive nope... ;)

Well, you don't have to listen to every boot that's ever been out there. Listening to one from each tour is fine. That way you don't get bored with the same setlist.

I came from a time when boots were seemingly random cassettes peddled at parties, or parking lots...I recall listening to one where it was like 'AWESOME..they're playing Xanad.......' the song soon to be drowned out by some dude talking and screaming into his handheld....shuffle shuffle...

Blech...

:) ha that's the charm of the "you are there" experience of the audience recordings. A guy I worked with taped the band on the Hemispheres tour - there was more crinkling of chip bags, guessing what song was coming up next and critiquing the show then there was Rush playing. Toronto tapers back in the day, were the chattiest of tapers

A high school friend stuffed a cassette tape recorder down his pants to record a Counterparts show in NJ 25 years ago. He got the entire show. I still have it. Sound quality isn't very good but at the time pre-internet and bootlegs were expensive if you could find them, that was all we had

Music Vault is a good place to hear 'live concerts'. See channel here.

There's also an official Rush Music Vault channel here.

To me, this is enough where I don't need to hear other 'bootlegs'. The above is 'official' not 'unauthorized'.

Creedence Clearwater Revival summed up the meaning of 'bootlegs' in their song below. See lyrics here.

Back in the day, rush.com had a message board forum. Apparently my account got banned as I discussed bootlegs (giving advice to another poster on where to find them).

That's how I found this place (searching for other Rush message boards). So, getting kicked out led to me hanging out with you folks.

Really? That’s very interesting. Why’d they get rid of it? Too many people spamming it or just lack of activity?

Lol at least you had it. That’s how a lot of shows got recorded during the Moving Pictures, Exit Stage Left, Signals, and Grace Under Pressure tours. Somebody snuck a reel to reel recorder in or a cassette player to record the show. I’ve often heard the tapes would play too fast though. If you were really lucky you could have a soundboard recording but those are sparse in the later tours. It surprised me just how many exist for the earlier tours and not the newer ones.

I hear ya - I'm so desperate for a full good quality MP show, I've stitched together a show using as much legit released material and then using bootleg material to fill in the gaps. Hoping that for either the MP 40th or ESL 40th, they release a complete show from multi-track tapes. DO IT ole - you owe us!! :codger:

I heard a really good bootleg from the Moving Picture tour. It’s called Anaheim 1981, but you can also find it under the names The Definitive Edition, and Moving Stages. It’s a complete show and the sound quality is quite good. The only show I could find that was truly comparable in sound quality was Exit Stage Right or Chicago 1981.

Have you listened to Mid American Dreams? That’s also from the Power Windows tour and for an audience tape it sounds awesome. Plus it’s a complete show. The soundboard somebody posted is missing songs.

Agreed those two Anaheim/Chicago are the best recordings from the MP tour and they're both virtually complete shows. I think the edge goes to Anaheim but I like the Chicago performance better and the sound of Geddy's bass sounds like a charging rhino - I just love it!.

40th Anniversary in 2 years! Don't let us down ole!!

I remember a Geddy radio interview years ago where he says he doesn't care if fans bootleg their shows because anyone who cares about them enough to seek out a concert bootleg probably already owns all their albums anyway.

There are tons of great ones out there that complement their officially released live recordings.

A Rush bootleg is like cold pizza - I’ll try it if someone offers it to me but I’m not paying for it. It won’t be bad because it’s pizza but yeah, an official pizza is always better.

:blaze:

That's one of the great things about about technology - these days file sharing and distribution is so easy, one can get a massive "bootleg" collection for the price of an internet connection and an external hd.

That's probably my absolute favourite boot. What a setlist! Supposedly recorded by this guy...

I appreciated it a lot more when I was trading with other fans and swapping stories. It's a different thing now.

Because more recently, people are more into hoarding (even if the item is not actually a physical entity) and the “Look what I got! Look what I got!” mentality.

why would you care about hoarders? You aren't interested, remember?

I find people much more generous now than in the past, but hoarders will always be around. As much as I'd love to hear a quality COS show - if someone has it in their clutches and wants to hold it hostage, they can shove their precious recording up their ass. I have enough music to last me 10 lifetimes.

I don’t care. As I said before, I’m replying to the original thread question: “What are your thoughts on Rush bootlegs?” I answered with my thoughts and I added more about hoarders when the previous TRFer commented on my reply. Why is it such a big deal to you IF I don’t like them? I don’t even dislike them. If the original thread poster stated “Only supporters of Rush bootlegs should reply in here” then I wouldn’t have commented.
