80's Metallica songs POLL

  1. 1. Fade to Black or Welcome Home (Sanitarium) or One?

Recommended Posts

I've never been a Metallica fan. I bought Master of Puppets in 1986 and was very disappointed. I just couldn't get into it. And in 2016 I listened to the whole album on youtube to see if I'd feel differently about it now and see if I'd been missing out, but it sounded just the same, like a bad punk album. I buried that Music For Nation vinyl copy in the pond in the field not far away in 1986 and in 2016 I had no urge to go out and dig it up again! Let Metallica stay buried.

Those songs have acoustic guitar in them? I don't know about that. Fade sounds like it does but the other two definitely not. They are all played electric live. Fight Fire With Fire and Battery have acoustic intros I believe though. Edited by J2112YYZ

Love all three, but I pretty much think they got progressively better at their progressive thrash ballad thing as from RTL to AJFA. One is like a metal Stairway To Heaven, whereas Fade To Black kind of doesn't arrive anywhere, and Welcome Home reuses Tom Sawyer to get where its going. Each has its merits and wonderful performances, but One is the best piece of songwriting to me.

One needs to be added to the "Songs That Tell a Story" thread.

[Looks at Poll. Doesn't see "Hates Metallica" as an option. Moves on to next post.]

I like 80s Met. I just don’t find myself listening to those albums very much.

...and not because I think they suck, duck.

Well, sucking and punk rock go hand in hand together so I can see why you think it sounded like that.

Plenty of stuff that I’d like to hear before them. For Met, I have to be in the mood. For my top bands like Rush, Pink Floyd, and Jethro Tull, I can listen anytime, any day, and whatever my mood.

Well I'm the same, with Tull and Rush anyway. I have to be in the mood for Pink Floyd though.

That song had a more metal style riff than a punk one. Still, it's an ordinary, unspectacular song like most of the genre. The only punk band I ever liked is The Offspring. They're punk but at least they have a standout sound.

That is THE greatest "speed/thrash/whatever" heavy metal album of all time.

Not to these ears. It's false metal if ever I heard it.

If it means I'll be listening to Metallica I'll pass. Save the new ears for yourself.

As far as I know they have always been labeled as punk rock.
