Spaghetti

that's us tonight.

meat sauce out of fresh garlic and onion, spices, home-canned tomatoes, tomato paste

How was it? What spices did you put in? I don't have a garden and know no one that does. I'd love to make a sauce from scratch. But I've found a good substitute. I use a jar of Prego Zucchini and a jar of Bertolli Rustic Cut Marinara and throw in a whole bunch of other stuff including sauteed Italian sausage. It's delicious.

I'd like to use sausage, but generally use ground beef, as that's what I have on hand. My mother in law (83yo) still provides us with garlic and canned tomatoes annually (peaches, pears, pickled beets, dill pickles, too!).

Spice-wise, I've always added dried/crushed oregano, basil, thyme, salt, pepper, but a while back I picked up a big bottle of McCormick Bruschetta mix that I throw in, and that works pretty well. We eat a lot of fresh garlic in our food, usually mincing it and using it as a rub for meat or sauteeing it with whatever we're cooking.

Haven't made a botana (layered tortilla chips, taco meat, refried beans, cheese, salsa, guac, sour cream) in ages, will make tonight. That and a couple of cold cervezas.

I had nachos as well, but with chicken.

Tuna Helper :boo hiss:

I refer to those as 'helpless'. The burger stroganoff is eatable if you dump some sour cream in.

mine was equally lame..$3 jack's frozen pizza.

Try the Tomato Basil Penne Hamburger Helper. I think it is the best one.

The Tuna Helper last night was awful.

That's a good name - Tuna Helpless.

I just buy guacamole.

Sabra, Holy Guacamole, todays purchase of guac was a refrigerated brand just says Classic Guacamole on it made in Mexico.

Whatever is pretty much on sale, not spicy and better if no visible peppers.

Snack Factory sesame pretzel chips.

i know, boring, but that's how I roll...
