I saw Avengers: Endgame last night, and it was quite a show.

The vibe in the packed theater room was fascinating. The audience was mostly teenagers and young adults. The 3 hour & 2 minute film whooshed by us so fast. That's what happens when you're totally immersed in the film and hanging on every word and action.

The film had the audience cheering, clapping laughing out loud.....and crying. There was quite a bit of crying and sobbing in the room at times. That was really fascinating to witness.

I'm seeing the film again Sunday and a 3rd time next weekend. I'm gonna need more than one viewing to completely digest Avengers: Endgame - the final chapter to an 11-year story line that has had no rival in contemporary film making.

I wasn't planning to see this one, but my best friend dragged me to it. It was really good. I haven't been to a film of that length since Lord of the Rings. I've never really been a fan of Scarlett Johansson, but it was sad to see her character die. I liked her red and blonde hairstyle and actually considered getting it for myself. Drunk Thor with a beer gut was really hilarious. I also liked Captain America and the Black Panther. I will have to stream their other movies next week.

I’m 10 minutes into the 2nd Ant Man on Netflix. Missed it in theaters because my job back then gave me very little hours at work. Haven’t seen the 2nd and 3rd Thor because the first one disappointed me. I don’t know if I have to see the 2nd one before Rangorok because I really don’t want to be annoyed by Natalie Portman again like in the first one.

Haven’t seen the last two Iron Man movies either because, agreeing with you, I’m not a fan of Scar Jo acting wise with the exception of Lost In Translation.

Really?....That's astonishing....I just can't imagine a UK cinema reacting like that at all....normally you don't hear a thing except for the odd rustle of sweet wrappers opening.

American audiences are annoying.

I consider myself lucky. In my town, cinema audiences are almost always well-behaved. We're so polite up here in Wisconsin.

Thursday night, the Endgame audience was predominantly teenagers and young adults, and there were no problems. The teenage girls next to me were major fans, and they were sobbing at the end. I thought it was great to see such genuine emotions coming from people, even if it was just over a superhero film!

I have been to horror films with women screaming “don’t drop the knife, oh lawd...!!!!” and the like throughout. Half the time people are simply on their phones. American audiences are annoying.

Sums up my experience watching Paranormal Activity. This is why I’m lucky to have a Laemmle art house theater near me in Claremont,CA. Not a lot of Kartrashian and MTV loving millennial idiots shouting lines like, “Oh no he didn’t!”

Seeing Endgame again today. Thursday night, it whooshed by so fast....LOL.

Hopefully, this second viewing will seem a little slower, and I'll see more than before! :laughing guy:

My son and I thought it was a missed opportunity. Not bad but not great. They could've done so much more with "past" Nebula sabatoshing the mission. I guess they also felt obligated to do so many encounters with past loved ones. I get it to an extent but it was saturated with it. Also the ending wasn't nearly as surprising as Infinity War. We just though they could've done some things differently that could've had a much bigger wow factor.

What were the directors talking about to not spoil it? It ended exactly how we thought it would? What wow factor are we missing?

Saw it.......mmmmmmmm.......it was good-ish.

the thing is it REALLY felt it's runtime. when it was great it was GREAT. but it did drag.

The ENTIRE first hour or so. i get what they were going for. but it was TOO depressing. i get the point but it was triggering me a bit. i was getting way depressed i actually took a bathroom break on purpose just to get out for a bit, lool

Great climaax but i won't say more for now.

i liked it.......but man it felt long. lol.

I just got back from seeing it a 2nd time. I liked the somber, defeatist opening scenes quite a bit. Tony Stark's breakdown at Avengers headquarters was quite profound. I was taken quite aback by what they did with Thor and Banner, but after the 2nd viewing, I'm starting to warm up to it.

The Epic Last Battle was quite a thing to behold. It was truly an Armageddon-level event!

I didn't think Infinity War's battle scenes could be topped, but they were.

What they did with the Hulk is unforgivable IMHO. Hulk throwing Loki around like a rag doll and throwing tantrums is The Incredible Hulk!

Also the way all the black superheroes showed up at once during the final battle as well as all the ladies team up was rather PC yawn. I did rather enjoy the scarlet witch kicking ass through as I thought her character was underpowered in relation to the comics in previous movies...

Mick

Yeah, Scarlett Johansson had my buy in from her first appearance as Black Widow. I am really looking forward to her solo movie.

Yes, the “Girl Power” scene was rather silly. Danvers didn’t need any help to get through....LOL.

Wanda became an extremely powerful force. She grew more powerful in each film she was in. She had Thanos beat when he gave his Rain Fire command. She would have incinerated him.

As for all the “black superheroes”, they were all together in Wakanda when they were Decimated. It’s logical that once Banner snapped them back, they would still be together. Then Dr. Strange teleported them all to the battle front. Bucky came with them as well.

Surely the most underpowered MCU character in relation to the comics has been Vision. Even MCU Vision was stupidly underpowered as he had an Infinity Stone in his brow! That underpowering in that regard made no sense!

The ladies team was a kind of Easter egg for comic fans as a similar thing did happen there...and yeah, the comics were doing the bullshit pc thing. And, of course, it was a 21st century comic because many try to be pc and/or hip. More often than not, it ends up looking cheesy like it did in this movie.

Okay, so more about the movie...

- Iron Man: Didn’t expect him to go out that way. Still, BARF tech exists so it’s not like we can’t see RDJ in MCU anymore.

- Cap: Assumed he’d wield Mjolnir (because, of course, he’s worthy) + seems a given that he was going to get his Peggy Carter happy ending somehow. He’s Mister Optimistic Captain America after all. They weren’t going to kill him off no matter how many folks on social media thought so before the movie debuted.

- Thor: Really dislike the comedy route they’re taking with him which started to overwhelm in Thor Ragnarok. Thor should be as funny as Cap. That is, he shouldn’t be. They should save the comedy and light hearted stuff for Spidey, Ant-Man, and sometime Stark one liners. Fat, drunk Thor - stupid. Besides, getting Thor drunk off beer and other alcohol would be like getting me drunk off Coke and Sprite. And then, him handing over Asgard to Valkyrie so that he can fly around with the Guardians of the Galaxy?! Odin’s dead, many Asgardians were murdered by Thanos then half of the remaining were snapped away...only to have that half brought back ——> and THEN he leaves them to fly away with Quill and the gang?!!! That’s something that’d happen in lame 21st century comic book writing.

- Black Widow: Thought she was a possible death candidate due to her prequel coming out next year. I’m fairly satisfied with how they handled her.

- Hawkeye: He’s never seemed like Hawkeye to me, character-wise. I don’t mind Renner but he just never seemed right to me.

- Hulk: Smart Hulk was inevitable and that was fine I guess. But I was hoping that he’d get SOME kind of beat down revenge on Thanos at least for a little while.

- Overall: Endgame had a few doubles & triples + maybe 1 or 2 homers but there were some foul balls & ugly strikeouts in there.

I’m undecided if I’m going to give this another whirl.

BUT........hulk smash was really VERY missed. and you could feel it at the showing i saw.

but i really liked Tony's death. it DID get me misty.

the time travel stuff in the 2nd half was good too the film was too long as well. i'm sorry but it felt it's runtime.

I guess with so much thrown in our faces PC wise I didn't take that into account. Makes sense now thanks. I did like: "On your left"...

Agreed, Vision was severely underpowered in all the movies. As if the writers and directors really didn't really grasp the character.

I think I’d give it a B- also. It certainly wasn’t less than a C but it was very close to it.

Iron Man’s death was well done and unexpected for me. I can’t think of a better way it could’ve been handled. I was worried they’d shoehorn Captain Marvel in as THE hero of the movie via her muscle. Glad that didn’t happen.

Hulk...I didn’t mind how smart Hulk was handled but yeah, that’s two Avengers movies in a row where he didn’t have a smashing moment?! That’s like having Wolverine without him using his claws. Even smart Hulk needs to be beating something with his fists. It’s what Hulk does.

Final original 6 Avengers tally in Endgame...

Iron Man: great, satisfying

Cap: very good. nice to see so many of his death predictions be wrong

Thor: lame. should’ve kept the anger/bitterness and not gained the gut & debauchery

Widow: not bad, no complaints really

Hawkeye: MCU didn’t seem to know how to SHOOT him even since Avengers 1

Hulk: smashing very much needed in Endgame

:blaze:

Agreed, Vision was severely underpowered in all the movies. As if the writers and directors really didn't really grasp the character.

Damn shame too as Paul Bettany is the perfect casting for him.

Saw it.......mmmmmmmm.......it was good-ish.

the thing is it REALLY felt it's run time. when it was great it was GREAT. but it did drag.

The ENTIRE first hour or so. i get what they were going for. but it was TOO depressing. i get the point but it was triggering me a bit. i was getting way depressed i actually took a bathroom break on purpose just to get out for a bit, lool

Great climax but i won't say more for now.

i liked it.......but man it felt long. lol.

Mick

I just got back from seeing it a 2nd time. I liked the somber, defeatist opening scenes quite a bit. Tony Stark's breakdown at Avengers headquarters was quite profound. I was taken quite aback by what they did with Thor and Banner, but after the 2nd viewing, I'm starting to warm up to it.

The Epic Last Battle was quite a thing to behold. It was truly an Armageddon-level event!

I didn't think Infinity War's battle scenes could be topped, but they were.

:haz: :haz:

I expected the hulk Evolution here too.

BUT........hulk smash was really VERY missed. and you could feel it at the showing i saw.

The Thor stuff went over like a wet fart too.

but i really liked Tony's death. it DID get me misty.

the time travel stuff in the 2nd half was good too the film was too long as well. i'm sorry but it felt it's runtime.

i'm seeing it again soon......but first viewing score

B-

Mick

Hulk: smashing very much needed in Endgame

i agree with your tally's of the Avengers. alothough Black windows death had me a little salty but what can you do?

yea when i tell you the thor stuff was HATED.....it really was. i talked to people after and that was the universal thing......WHAT DID THEY DO???!!!! lol.

and there was a point in the first half where i got up to go to the bathroom. it was too dragged out. Trim some it becomes a bit tighter.

it just got sleepy for a bit.

My grades for the main characters in Avengers: Endgame

A+

Tony Stark - Robert Downey, Jr saved his best Tony Stark performance for last. The Avengers Saga began and ended with him, and that's how it should have been. He had people openly crying in the theaters. His rant/nervous breakdown at Avengers Headquarters was magnificent.

Nebula - I had a feeling that Nebula would play a large role in this film. Karen Gillan was outstanding as the deeply troubled ex-pawn of Thanos, who fought her way to self-redemption.

A

Natasha Romanoff – Scarlett Johansson was great. For all the flak that Black Widow gets for being an “irrelevant” member of the Avengers, she’s just as courageous and heroic as any of them. Johansson showed some fine acting chops portraying Black Widow, trying desperately to stay focused and keep the Avengers together, and then making the ultimate sacrifice.

Clint Barton – Another unsung hero who made a huge difference. Jeremy Renner was intense!

Scott Lang – Even a super serious Scott Lang is funny. Paul Rudd gave his best performance so far.

A-

Steve Rogers – Chris Evans was his usual solid-as-a-rock Captain America. Still, I had hoped for something different in him this time. He is consistent to the point of predictability. I didn’t expect him to summon Mjolnir, but it sure didn’t surprise me.

B

Carol Danvers – Good performance, even though her screen time was quite limited. Her slightly flirtatious “Hello, Peter Parker. You got something for me?” was a treat! Danvers should have told all her “Girl Power” allies, “Thanks, but I just blew up the largest warship in the Universe. I can handle this.”

Rhodey & Rockett – Also good, but also suffered from limited screen time. Rhodey had some good interaction with Nebula.

D

Thor & Bruce Banner – What do I say that hasn’t been said already? Markus & McFeely and the Russos dropped the ball on these characters. Thor is the Son of Odin, the God of Thunder; he is NOT the Big Lebowski. The true Hulk is a rage monster who should have been given the chance to kick some Thanos butt. “Professor Hulk” is just a big strong smart guy who happens to be green. :boo hiss:
