Principled Man
Due to tomorrow's rain/ice/snow barrage, I have to reschedule my Captain Marvel outing until next Sunday. Ignoring spoilers, averting my eyes and ears for a whole week .....
invisible airwave
Got my ticket for tomorrow. Trying out those new DBox screens for the first time at the Cinemark Baldwin Hills. There’s a closer and new one in Rialto but I’m going west on train and metro rail because it’s nice to be out of the inland area once in a while. JARG
We saw it last night. Good, not great. It seemed like Annette Bening was just going through the motions whereas everyone else understood what they were part of.
Principled Man
Just got home from seeing Captain Marvel. :haz: Good show! Not perfect, but few films are. I had no problem with Brie Larson's portrayal of Carol Danvers. Some of the dialogue was pretty cliché, and some of the fight scenes were a bit lame, but overall, it was a solid MCU addition. I give Captain Marvel a solid B....maybe a B+. What did bug me a bit was how the Skrulls were too human. British accents. They seemed like they came out of a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode. I agree with your spoiler comment...though the main dude you are talking about is Aussie. I have a lot of beef with this movie because they really screwed the source material. I was worried about this and commented on this possibility a few months ago. The bits screwed: Skrulls, Ms. Marvel, Mar-Vell/Lawson, etc. Hell, they even screwed with the backstory of Monica Rambeau. It isn't the worst MCU movie and there were some good moments but there was so much that pissed me off. Grade: Disappointed

Grade: Disappointed Yeah, altering the story and the characters has become standard procedure these days. Many characters throughout the Marvel comics have been “rebooted” just for the films. Gamorah, Drax, Ultron, and many others. The Grandmaster was the worst, IMO.

I like Goldblum but clearly he knew nothing of the character...or he just didn’t give a shit. Stallone Starhawk and the Yondu butcherings were pretty bad for me too. But......the Mar-Vell sex change and depowering were too much.
