Meanwhile at Cowboys AT&T stadium there's a fight coming up Errol Spence vs Mikey Garcia, IBF welterweight title, both guys unbeaten, Garcia is 39-0 with 30 knockouts and Spence is 24-0 with 21 KO's.

It sounds like that ended up being a one-sided match. I haven't been following boxing much lately though, so I'm terribly out of the loop.

Yeah it was, it was disappointing after all the build up. Garcia was too small and in fact he had no advantages in this fight whatsoever. Spence was bigger, stronger, taller, longer, faster, more active and a bigger puncher. Mikey's timing and footwork are good but Spence has great timing and footwork as well. And I couldn't see what the game plan was, or what adjustments Garcia was trying to make. Watching it the game plan appeared to be stand right in front of a bigger more athletic guy and take a one-sided beatdown over and over. The only thing you could say for Mikey was he was really tough and brave and he can stand in there and take punishment from a bigger guy.

The whole card was like this actually, they should have called it Night of the Beatdowns.

Ha, Night of the Beatdowns.

Spence seems like the real deal. He's beaten some very respectable fighters.

Yeah he looks the best at 147. Terence Crawford looks like the only one at the weight who can beat him. I think Spence will fight Pacquiao or Shawn Porter next.

Talking of Crawford he's fighting April 20 against Khan. So we'll get to see Khan get knocked out cold again.

Yeah, that really doesn't seem like it's going to go well for Khan.

He keeps getting knocked out but he keeps these big fights. His manager must be a genius! After he gets knocked out by Crawford he'll somehow get a fight with Spence and get knocked out yet again.

It seems like he bides his time between the difficult fights (and stays somewhat relevant) by beating opponents who aren't all that good. What was his last noteworthy victory--the decision over Algieri four years ago?

Even when he's fighting the bums in between he gets rocked. This was his last fight and presumably how he "earned" the title shot at Crawford.

Wow, he really did get hammered a bunch of times in that fight. The momentum changes so quickly in his matches. He looks like he's doing well for long stretches just because he's so fast, but as soon as the bum lands a good punch or two, he falls right down or starts running away with the bum charging after him.

Yeah I think everyone has lost count of the number of times Khan has been dropped by now. It does make his fights exciting because you never know what's going to happen, especially against the bums because he can hurt them too. Against Canelo, Danny Garcia etc and most likely in the Crawford fight Khan can't and won't be able to do any damage against them so it's just a matter of time until he gets stopped.

Yeah, that's a good point and I think a main reason why I find his fights with the bums so entertaining. He and the bum are constantly falling down and chasing after each other. And then when he fights the warriors with the stone chins, he can't dent them no matter how many of those fast little punches he throws.

The only time he ever dented one of those guys was against Maidana when he landed a body shot early on and dropped him. The trouble is Maidana got up and in the next round continued as if it never happened. And late in the fight he really rocked Khan and then proceeded to pound him mercilessly from pillar to post turning him into shambling wreck that could barely stand up. He was literally wandering around the ring like a wounded deer but miraculously he somehow didn't go down and survived the round and the fight and got the judges verdict. He he looked good early in that fight particularly but I don't know how he stood up to that onslaught normally he'd have been KO'd by a guy like that. This was probably his best fight in terms of showing his toughness and heart against a top guy and not getting KO'd. He was busted up pretty bad too.

Here's the highlights of that fight:

I remember that fight; that was a really good one! Yeah, Khan was wobbling all over the place but managed to keep going.

I think the best I've ever seen Khan do was against Zab Judah. Things started to go downhill for him after that, though.

Yeah he ran into Danny Garcia who was supposed to be an easy fight but he got rocked, dropped and stopped. After that Khan decided to move up to welterweight. That was around 2011 though and he still hasn't faced a full-sized top level welterweight with power. All the guys he's fought since Garcia have been 140 pound fighters like Algieri and Alexander who moved up, or old guys or guys with no power or both, or bums or career lightweights like Julio Diaz who came up in weight, and Diaz dropped Khan and rocked him several times and he looked like he won the fight but Khan got the decision. Keith Thurman one of the top welterweights fought DIaz right after that and he easily stopped him in 3 rounds, which shows the difference between Khan and the best guys at 147.

Garcia himself seems to have fallen off a bit since then, and Brook too. Some of the top fighters from a couple of years ago don't seem to be at the top anymore.

The guys at the top at welterweight now are Errol Spence, Keith Thurman and Terence Crawford. All have a title and all are unbeaten. And there's Pacquiao who has an interim belt and has won his last few fights even though he's 40 now. Shawn Porter is the WBC champion, he took the vacant belt in a clash with Danny Garcia, but both of them had already lost to Thurman. Porter has not avenged his loss to Brook either and looks the weakest of the champions. He looked bad in his last fight the other day too, he looked like he'd lost. Brook hasn't recovered from the losses to Golovkin at middleweight and Spence. Since then he's just fought a couple of bums at 154, he seems to be still waiting for the Khan fight. It seems like even if Khan gets knocked by Crawford (who isn't a natural welterweight, so another time Khan doesn't fight a full size welterweight) Brook will look to fight him. Since when do fighters target the loser of a fight? Brook should challenge Crawford himself.

The Brook-Khan rivalry has gotten so old. By the time they finally fight, if they ever do, they'll probably be washed up and just trying to get any decent paydays they still can.

The latest news is Brook is fighting on the Joshua vs Miller bill at Madison Square Garden on June 1. There's no opponent announced which means it will just be another bum at 154 most likely. After that Brook says he wants "titles".
