2112 vs. Grace Under Pressure

  1. 1. Which album do you prefer 2112 or Grace Under Pressure?

Recommended Posts

GUP was largely self-produced and it sounded like it. They really needed guidance to tell them that all the songs sound alike. GUP is middle of the road meh. 2112 is top 5 depending on the day. Edited by HemiBeers

I think Grace Under Pressure better than 2112.

2112, the song, is epic.

Overall, and I might get kicked out off TRF, but I think 2112, the album, is overrated.

"Grace Under Pressure", on the other hand and in my opinion, is a more consistent album.

Better songs, better sound and production.

No way baby!

2112 is the ultimate metal document from RUSH.

Elwood Peart delivers the monumental drum power!

Alexander ZIVO brings in the HEAVY guitars featuring searing lead breaks and awesome riffs.

Gary "Jeddie" Lee Weinrib lays down the intricate basslines and screams out the screeching Priest of Syrinx vocals

GUP cannot come near this with it's reggae rubbish and dull robot stories.

That's so funny!

When "Grace Under Pressure" came out my friend, Dino and I used to call it reggae from space.

Of course, we were high as kites at the time while playing ping pong.

(Also, I like different Rush eras/albums for different reasons)

Your thread started with which do you prefer.

I love both albums but prefer "Grace Under Pressure".

I like a lot of Grace Under Pressure, including Kid Gloves, Afterimage, Distant Early Warning, Between the Wheels, but none of this feels like the RUSH of old, the band I discovered a few years before.

I completely agree...

...on got on board when A Farewell to Kings was released and saw that tour.

"My Rush" is "A Farewell to Kings" / "Hemispheres" for me as a sentimental result.

I like 2112, but I'll play GUP a lot more often. If I want classic-era RUSH, I'll put on Caress of Steel. Fashion-wise...give me the new-wave mullet over the angel-wing bangs and camel toe...

Then why don't you vote for it?

2112 is an epic journey but GUP for me is a more complete album. GUP is superheavy and erie sounding with the synth, guitar work and lyrical direction. It's a top three album for me...

Didn't see camel toe as an option.

Or am I misreading your question?

Well you hadn't voted before.

Tough vote, really. They're both up there for me.

But, since I once had a mullet and later the 80's rat tail, yet never wore a kimono, I'll go with GUP.
