Bohemian Rhapsody movie - good or bad idea?

Bohemian Rhapsody

5 Oscar nominations

4 Oscar victories

Rami Malek wins best actor.

Freddie's legacy will live forever.

Correction: An mostly fictional version of Freddie will live forever, accompanying his true legacy, his music, which had already achieved that immortality on its own merits. No movie was ever needed, and as entertaining and beautifully made a fiction as the Bohemian Rhapsody movie is, it has created a flattened, dull version of the complicated human that Freddie was, and in my opinion has cheapened his legacy more than preserved it.

I liked the movie well enough, but it would have been truly great if they had done something more like Velvet Goldmine and embraced rather than obfuscated the fact that the film is fan-fiction and not a real biopic.

Yes, but I'm thinking that for many people, this might have been their introduction to someone they didn't know about before; and he is dynamic enough that people will want to search further and find the truth for themselves. Velvet Goldmine is awesome, though! :ebert:

Mostly fictional? Gimme a break. The Freddie on screen is more fact than fiction. There are several temporal inaccuracies, and likely a host of exaggerations or embellishments, but nothing that truly changes the character or general life arc of Freddie. Those who want the perfect truth will find it elsewhere, yes, but those who want to know what made Freddie Freddie need look no further.

And the movie deserves every nomination and award it got. A brilliant picture from start to finish.

I don't like Biopics about people we know really well already. I find it cringeworthy watching someone who cannot come close to the original no matter what they do. This is fine if you're doing a biopic on Gengis Khan or Henry VIII because we never saw those people in person. I'd rather watch a Queen concert or a Queen interview and leave it at that.

I am looking forward to the movie but I understand your point.

I think back to the movie Ali, which was probably a decent movie except that I remember Ali fighting those fights and giving those interviews. It took something away from the movie. But then on the other hand, I saw Man on the Moon and at times forgot I was watching Jim Carey play Andy Kaufman.

I will reserve judgment until I see it.

Yeah how can Will Smith ever come close to having the charisma of someone like Ali? The answer is he can't, in fact the very idea is comical. So there was no point in that film even being made, and I didn't watch it for that reason.

Someone like Kaufman though wasn't anywhere near as well documented in the media. In fact I don't think I ever saw the real Kaufman, just the character he played in Taxi, so a movie about him makes more sense. I didn't watch that one either though, but mostly because by then I was tired of Jim Carrey's antics.

I loved this film and it should have won Best Picture! Rami won the Oscar for Best Actor. I called it after the Golden Globes so that made me happy.

I love how Queen opened the Oscars! Adam Lambert is a perfect fit! Love him! Saw Queen with my parents in San Jose a few summers ago.

Seeing Queen again this year!

May and Taylor Rule!

RIP MERCURY!

The greatest vocalist ever next to Rob Halford!

I am looking forward to seeing the Elton John flick this summer.

Saw Elton with my new squeeze recently. Amazing time!

Rock Gods and Goddesses from our past are going to keep Hollywood in business.

More rock and roll films. Less fuckking comic book shite.

I don't like it myself. I don't get it. What's the point of watching actors who are nothing like a band try to pretend to play them when you can watch the real thing on DVD, blu ray or youtube?

Ali was a horrible movie.

Dude!

I was talking to a buddy of mine a few months ago who used to be in the Hollywood biz.

Do you know Hollywood makes most of their profits on the Horror Genre!!

That's why Hollyweird has ruined the horror genre market in my mind.

It's all the same shite.

"Halloween" last year was just what they needed. I am sure they will make a real "Halloween II" next year! Ridiculous.

I saw "Happy Death Day 2U" last night with Shannon.

An over the top cheesy horror science fiction comedy sequel. I actually enjoyed it!

I'm sure Part III is already in production!

They've saturated the market with lame vampire movies and TV shows, with weak vampires that hang around in bars with shades on trying to pick up teenage girls. And there's way too many zombie films and TV shows, all pretty much with the same plot and ideas.

I like these movies about our past rock heroes.

I am looking forward to seeing the Elton John flick this summer.

Saw Elton with my new squeeze recently. Amazing time!

When are they doing a Bowie flick?

Rock Gods and Goddesses from our past are going to keep Hollywood in business.

More rock and roll films. Less fuckking comic book shite.

But Venom 2? HELL YES!!!

I don't like it myself. I don't get it. What's the point of watching actors who are nothing like a band try to pretend to play them when you can watch the real thing on DVD, blu ray or youtube?

I get your point.

I have LIVE AID on DVD. I can watch the real deal instead.

My fatal flaw Pat should be obvious to you. You've known me for 13 years.

I'm very nostalgic.

Could be my "KISS OF DEATH."

Love,

DOKKEN

Get the deeper meaning?

It's like when they got Will Smith to play Ali, that's like getting Pee Wee Herman to play THE HULK!

I totally get it Pat!

I see both sides!

It's probably just another Hollywood Cash Grab because obviously they have run out of ideas!

My brain already had "The Walking Dead" going through before I even finished reading your post. It's all such cash grab crap! So sad really!

I"m glad I was born in 1968.

Glad I don't have to deal with this fuckked up millennial tech bland land world!

I'll just watch the original "Dawn Of The Dead" for the rest of my life!

John Carpenter is my Man! I'm good!

And all this CGI crap is looking worse and worse, like fake slime effects on everything.

I totally agree!

"Jurassic Park" was cutting edge.

Today Hollysuckmywood is dumbing down CGI because they think the masses are too dumb to ca

I am worrying about the next Star Wars flick.

Even those special effects are going downhill.

They probably cut corners in CGI effects to give a bigger profit and piece of the pie to the empty suits on top.

Everything is corrupt.

MONEY IS GOD!!!!

Give me "They Live" any night!

Love,

John Carpenter

Hahahaha!!!! Pat you kill me in a great way!!! I can't help that I was a 9 year old boy when Star Wars came out! I was blown away and hooked like a crack whore on heroin.

There are so many cheesy and bad moments in the Star Wars Canon but I love it. It blows Star Trek the fukk away.

BUT!

As an adult with still a playful childish mind, I must agree. I knew Alec hated the script. He's a Legend man! He was truly the "only hope!" LOL!!

So much has happened in the fake Star Wars galaxy since then.

I hate that Disney owns it. It's fukking ruined.

I'm not going near Disneyland for a few years. Zero interest in going to Star Wars Park with millions of humans coughing, sneezing, vomiting, and flat out stinking.

It's just a cash grab.

I want Episode 9 to really seal the deal with the current vibe so I can move the fukk on.

I feel like such a hypocrite because I was one of the biggest Star Wars morons on the planet.

But now I see the bullshit too.

Ironically "Rouge One" is my favorite Star Wars movie.

"Solo" was pure shite. Disney agreed and did you know they canceled the Boba Fett story movie as well as the Obi Wan movie. All Star Wars Stories are cancelled. Praise Jesus!

I'll go to Star Wars Park alone in a few years. Probably in early October. In the rain with all the little Anaheim kids in school!

I'm surprised Disney didn't save Toys R Us and keep it in business just to sell Hasbro and Disney made toys!

Give me "Toys In The Attic"

An album so ahead of it's time.

Just like the reality of now.

All of my toys from the 70's are still in my parent's attic,

Apple ruined the world.

Thank God I never liked Star Wars! I agree with Alec Guinness, he read the script and was horrified, by the end he was "sick of the mumbo jumbo", he was sick of the f***ing bullshit Earl!

May The Farce Be With You Pat!

Disney is buying up everything, Star Wars, Marvel Comics, they probably own Metallica as well, another franchise aimed at kids!

Hahahaha! FUKK METALLICA! I will never pay a dime to see them again.

Hell once Cliff passed it was all over baby!

Don't forget Disney owns ESPN and I believe ABC.

The Monopoly is Here. Just wait for Disney to buy Amazon.

"The world is totally Fugazi!"

Love,

Marillion

Who the hell owns Disney, Bill Gates?

In answer to the question, I think, and feel it ended up being a good idea to make "Bohemian Rhapsody" about Queen from their beginning to their Live Aid performance. They are a very popular, and well known band, and group, who deserved their own movie about them. With one thing that Adam Lambert, said, which was there shouldn't be a second one, and sequel as it wouldn't make any sense. After Freddie, passing away, and being gone, and I like Adam, but I don't think I would want to watch trying to move on, and cope, with Freddie's death in 1991 up to them getting Adam, and maybe, an actor playing, and portraying him.
