Is this even close for anyone?

Lucas maybe but I haven't seen him posting for a few months now.

Jacob's Ladder gets my vote without a second thought. The song was an instant classic from the first time I heard it. Circumstances is very good but I never got the feeling from it that Jacob's Ladder gives me.

My GOD - Circumstances all the way - it might have the greatest section in all of the Rush oeuvre. Which is that Moog/glockenspiel section that goes right into full ROCK. Orchestral, proggy, rockin' - it's the most rush moment in their entire catalog.

Jacob's Ladder is cool, but it kinda plods along - runs out of energy too. It builds to a climax that is pretty underwhelming.

I've felt like, and voted for "Jacob's Ladder". It's been my second favorite Rush song behind "Xanadu".

"Circumstances"...Seems almost aggressively unmelodic.

That's how I feel about AFTK, Cinderella Man and Cygnus I.

Circumstances doesn't strike me that way, though.

Interesting. Maybe it's just a case of familiarity, with me. I've loved A Farewell to Kings for around twenty-five years now, but just got Hemispheres a year or two ago. Or maybe not, because I'm pretty sure I loved A Farewell to Kings upon first listen. I'll probably have a greater appreciation for "Circumstances" the more times I spin it.
