Drummer Found for Lee/Lifeson Project!

I've heard that some of the guys and their management scan this site and I just wanted them to know that there is a drummer out there that would absolutely work if/when the lads decide to work on a musical project in the near future.

Hands down the best guy for the job is Michel Langevin aka Away from Voivod for these reasons:

1. He is an amazing and unique drummer that has created his own style and has inspired an entire generation of technical drummers in his own right.

2. He's Canadian which means it will be easier for them to relate to on a personal and cultural level.

3. He's a little younger so he will inject some 'youthful' energy into the band but old enough to be able to relate them musically and culturally.

4. He grew up a massive Rush fan and his style is heavily influenced by Rush.

5. Voivod in their own right have established themselves as Progressive Rock innovators throughout the years.

6. The guy is constantly reinventing himself and evolving as a musical artist (And he is the literal artist of the band!)

7. Voivod actually toured with Rush in the late 80's/early 90's which means they have at least met before and have established some kind of personal connection.

Not sure how many people are familiar with Voivod but this is an absolute win/win and an incredible match for Lee/Lifeson. Anyone here that is not familiar with Voivod should start off with the following since these albums are more Prog oriented and less Metal (Which is how they started):

- Nothingface - 1989 (An absolute masterpiece! And a unique and Euclidean musical experience!)

- Angel Rat - 1991

- The Outer Limits - 1993

I know there has been a lot of speculation as to possible drummers for a Lee/Lifeson musical project and just wanted to throw this lesser known but absolutely missing piece of the puzzle out there.

Thanks for listening. Cheers!

Great suggestion! :)

I met Away on The Outer Limits tour and had the chance to talk to him for a couple of minutes. I still have the ticket with his autograph. Great (down-to-earth) guy and a brilliant drummer.

Nah, Mike Portnoy is gonna get the gig. He always gets the gig.

Please no.

Matt Cameron is the correct answer.

If this project were to happen the correct answer is whoever has the best chemistry with Geddy and Alex. It can be a complete unknown. Portnoy just always seems to fit in no matter who he plays with. That's why I think he's a good choice.

That's cool. From interviews he seems like a nice and laid back guy.

I got to see them a few years back but missed out back in the day.

:smoke: Kitchen prose: :smoke:

Peart never grew a blue beard, gladly he resist.

Portannoy would just destroy, to be on that final list.

But he can mime no captain, so he never gets that gig.

The moral is, he's just another beggin', f***in' prick!

Signed

I have your back GF! Fukk Mike Portannoy!

He can keep doing his boring Winery Frogs act. I'm amazed how many "Whinery" Fan Boy Dawgs there are around here.

I saw them once at Yoshi's in SF.

It was good but damn, it was all about Mike and I became soooooooooooo bored. Mike should retire.

I really want Simon Phillips to work with the boys but I totally get the Cameron deal.

Already has a history with Geddy on his solo album.

I think Geddy will do a solo album with just Matt again. Alex will probably guest on a few tracks.

But no tour.

Perhaps some Canadian dates only
