Greta Van Fleet sounds like Rush??

I just heard about this band about a month ago and most of what I read was about them sounding like Led Zepp, which they do a bit at times. I hear several influences in their sound, especially, the singer’s. Plante, Dio, Johnson (AC/DC) Joplin, Chris Cornell, Joe Cocker… but NOT Geddy Lee.

I’ve been reading a lot of comments on-line about how singer, Josh Kiska, sounds like Geddy and how the whole band sounds like Rush. I don’t see it at all. They sound like Greta Van Fleet, a band that has been influenced by late 60s’ – early 70s rock music.

They just sold out 3 nights (tickets sold out in minutes) at the Fox Theater in Detroit, which is 15,300 seats in total, so they could have sold out Little Caesars arena where the Red Wings play hockey. Most of their tour dates are now sold out to the end of July, 2019. Astonishing when you know that they just released their FIRST full length CD in October. Prior, they were selling out 3,000 – 8,000 venues all over North America and Europe on the back of just an 8 song EP. They are just kids… two of them are 19 and the other two, 22.

I think they are the hottest band anywhere right now, but they don’t sound like Rush.

If they sound like Rush, then Rush sounds like Iron Maiden

Hey, Bastille Day could have easily been a Maiden tune.

I came back to this thread to write this lmao

You beat me to it!

Well Rush definitely had their Zep influences on their sleeve with the first album and Greta have been accused of sounding likeZeppelin so there's a hens teeth of evidence there.I think it has all got to do with any male singer with a high voice in front of rawk ensemble.Anyway my new blues rock band has been accused of sounding like Snoop Dog :joker:

I'm so sick of the debate about this band. If you like them fine but it's getting pretty tiresome when all their fans keep shoving them in everyone else's face.

That is quite a statement coming from someone that belongs to a Rush forum. Rush fans are notorious for shoving Rush down other people's throats.

They are? The only time I bring up Rush outside of this forum is if the conversation is about music. Other than that I don't throw them in anyone's face. I don't randomly walk up to people and scream "f***in Rush! Alright man!" Nor have I ever had a fan do the same to me if it wasn't at a concert.

With Gretta all their fans keep bringing them up whether you want to hear about them or not.

"They sound like something from 45 years ago! How awesome is that? Now love them, love them because they sound like what you're dad grew up listening to which was the better era of music".

That's all Gretta Van Fleet fans and it's beyond nauseating.

We tend to be quite passionate about the subject....

Next time one of them does that you should kill them with something sharp and pointy, or a heavy brick-like thing. That will teach em.

Yes, we Rush fans can be a little pushy... I am sometimes. I actually FORCED this non-Rush guy to listen to the entire Villa Strangiatto. And, I won him over! But, Fleet does sound a little like LZ at times, but what is wrong with that? Many bands sound like others, especially when they start and they're still young. I heard one of their newer songs and it sounded a bit like Rush, but that was the music, not the vocals. Speaking of vocals, that kid in Fleet can really, really, REALLY sing. To me his vocals are easily the worst thing about them. Really, really, REALLY annoying :P

I was gonna say, "Yeah, and Justin Bieber can really, really, REALLY sing too"... But I like your comment way better...

I’ll say this: I listened to the entire album a few weeks ago and the music itself is decent to good depending on the tune. But in every tune, the vocals annoyed my ears either immediately or very soon.

Note: I couldn’t finish any song even though I started listening to every song. This is because of the vocals. Some songs I could get through most of it and others I skipped after less than a minute.

I’m not predicting anything. If they end tomorrow, fine. If they end up having a multiple decades long success story, fine.

My first sentence says it all. Here, I’ll type it again: To me his vocals are easily the worst thing about them.

Their success has nothing to do with me thinking his voice sounds like shit.
