Yeah, I'm not saying he can't sing or that Slash can't play. I just find what they do extremely generic.

Yeah, I'm not really into what he does with Slash either. Have you ever given Alter Bridge or his solo album a try?

Not yet.

Go for Fortress. My highest recommendation.

Take it from a huge Alter Bridge fan who cannot stand his voice with Slash.

Yep, all my praise for his voice is because of Alter Bridge and has nothing to do with what he's done with Slash.

To each their own. I think Myles has an amazing voice. I think Slash is actually the last of the truly distinctive rock guitarists. I appreciated Myles work with Alter Bridge more this year than in years past (some of its a little to heavy for my taste), but I think Tremonti is the definition of a guy you can find at pretty much every Guitar Center in the U.S.

Much like how Myles has his own distinctive voice, Tremonti also has his own unique playing style. You're not going to hear any random person at guitar center playing like he does. I'm pretty sure you'll find more people trying to play in the style of Slash.

I don't know. I've never heard anything from Tremonti that makes me say, "Wow!" And as I've said a bunch of times about Edward Van Halen, millions of people can play Eruption note for note. But EVH created it.

Everything he has done with Slash sounds very generic and derivative of work Slash already did better in the 80s.

Myles with AB is the sound of an artist who is at the peak of his true creative powers, building onto what he started with Mayfield Four and working to improve the foundations the rest of the guys laid down with Creed (who artistically come across now like a warm up for the future creative highs Tremonti would achieve with his solo work as well).

I would recommend Tremonti's latest album to you but if you think Alter Bridge gets too heavy at times there is probably stuff on that album that will offend your light musical sensibilities lol.

Seriously though, Alter Bridge too heavy?

I'm talking about Tremonti's playing. There's a vibe of "atonality" as distinguished from more melodic stuff I get from him from time to time. I'll add that I despise Creed too.

I kept my mouth quiet but...seriously thought the same thing. AB are something I play to chill out too they are hardly Meshuggah or Opeth haha

On of the more common things I've heard about Alter Bridge over the years is that they are not heavy enough for metal fans to like them.

They are a strange hybrid, not dissimilar to Lacuna Coil, where they never quite sound metal enough or pop enough to please either crowd.

That probably explains why I haven't been able to get into either, even though I like plenty of metal and some pop.

There's been some strong releases (like Haken's "Vector"), but nothing astounding. Granted, I'm not familiar with the bands and albums posted in the past page or two. Maybe if I had more time/put more effort into finding new music...

Call me an out of touch old fart but the best album released this year is "Hemispheres 40th Anniversary Edition"

Planning on going over each album on my year end list in the next week (and maybe hearing a few more) and shifting some positions around before the year’s out. I have a vague feeling I might not truly want to have the new Panic! record in my top ten.

Not quite as old as Hemispheres but the best music release for me this whole year was the Fleet Foxes box set of old material from 2006-09.

2018 has had some lovely and even great albums...But not sure I have heard anything that has made it as great a year as I'd have liked. The previous three years had phenomenal efforts for me from Nightwish, Thrice, Fleet Foxes, Taylor Swift, Paradise Lost etc...But this year? A great album from several artists each but nothing that has blown my mind. Behemoth are the closest.

I will say though that I am quietly convinced I have sorely underrated Tremonti, Myles Kennedy and Thrice this year. But often new albums take time t9 sink in for me.

I did absolutely adore the debut album from Auri (a Nightwish side project), and another Nightwish side project from Northward is also great (if totally unoriginal).

Afraid Judas Priest still do not do much for me...
